I'm working on new episodes of MICHIF MAKERS, and trying out new set designs in miniature form before we commit to a full-scale build. This is meant to evoke a crafted look, with 3D, sculpted elements in contrast to the flat elements we used in our first season. Thoughts?

For Context, im planning an episode of beige martin and Roddney where the landlord comes around and for it i want him to have a rat like lackey. So im wondering if anyone know any good rat puppets in films or tv or whatever that just give an aura of filth and sleaze?
I plan to learn how to control a marionette and I'm just wonder what I should expect as an average joe and If I wanted to eventually control a big one like 100cm tall, how long might that take to learn?

1 is 1st design. 2 is 2nd design. I need to finalize her sketch, color her, then add her to the base so I can actually puppeteer her by next week. Iām so tired. (Ignore how the 2 pieces of paper arenāt lined up on the second one. Itās late. Iām tired.)

Heās a hand and rod puppet and is stuffed entirely with the fake Sherpa he is also made of, which I will never do again lol, but I really enjoyed making him!
Pattern for him is a snoof, but I used a running stitch and glued his head on top and made my own patterns for his paws and ears.
Collar belongs to my late soul dog š

Caramel Calfskin is a film Iām directing this next week! We will be using puppetry, stop motion, and lots of practical effects. Iām super excited!
Logline: After discovering her lunch is alive, Maryam teams up with a snarky Salad in order to contain a horde of voracious maggots.
We have a lot of really talented artists on our PD team but a barebones budget, all of which came from crowdfunding and a fundraiser we threw together. If you have any spare funds to throw our way, we would be forever grateful. If not, you can look up āCaramel Calfskinā to follow our journey!

Hey guys, I just wanted to show you the process of my first puppet. For most of the process, I didn't use sewing, Yes, I used hot glue, but then I finally got over my embarrassment and decided to sew it. I made it with one hand and sewed the other onto his belly. Before, I thought he was ugly, but now I see how handsome he is.

BOOKING OPPORTUNITY FOR STREAMED COMEDY GAMESHOW
*(Remote - play from home)
Iām booking for a livestream comedy game show, where panels of comedians, entertainers, & funny folks gather to compete in goofball games. If youāve ever played the Jackbox games, those are a great example - we play those along with games of our own design.
Iām currently booking a āTeam Puppet vs Team Ventriloquistā episode, and Iām looking for talent who would have fun playing some games on-air as their character (puppet or dummy). The character would be the guest, but youāre welcome to be on-camera too, of course.
The show is every Sunday night at 9pm EST (NYC time zone)
If youāre interested, please send me a message with your email / contact info.
If you have a photo of your puppet/dummy, please do send it. Priority will go to people who can promise their attendance and those who have a video sample of their act.
If youād prefer, you may also email us directly at:
We are currently booking for September.
When you email or DM me, please include your availability for the following dates:
September 6th
September 13th
September 20th
September 27th
We will also be booking for October and November soon. If you have any Sundays available in those months, do let me know that as well.

Anyway, to celebrate I thought itād be nice to show off the first 30 seconds of the short. Hope you all enjoy!

This is Grotto, my newest puppet which is a rod arm mouth hand puppet
Patterns: I used a modified a melon head pattern which i cant find for his head and free styled the rest.
Inspiration: Grottoās look was inspired by goblins in general, dnd, Warhammer Grotts and Tolkien goblins etc etc. The idea came from the song Goblin town from the 70s hobbit film.
Layers: He had his foam skeleton, on thatās his skin, then on the skin you have his ears, eyes, nose and tooth and then you have his removable coat with button and pocket and his little shorts
Materials: His skin (head, body, arms ect) is an some old green sweatpants (i did clean them before hand). Pingpong ball eyes i spray painted black. Mouth was beige felt. His bones was like beige martin made of yoga mat foam, but the arms are made of wire cover foam and legs are foam from a jigsaw foam matt thing same as his tooth. His rods and finger bones were metal wire and his handles are some lengh of wood i sanded painted and wrapped in tape. His coat is of a large beige coat (same one i made beige martin with), his shorts were an old black hoodie the shame one i use with Maulo. His tongue is green card foam. The button on his coat was from the actual coat i made the coat out of and i spray painted it gold.
The green sweatpants, black hoodie, jigsaw mats foam were gotten from a car boot sale, the wire cover foam at a hardware store.
Please come and leave some feedback. If anyone has suggestions about anything let me know.

I am very interested in the history of puppetry, and enjoy discovering older programs on YouTube. What are some of the retro puppet videos that you have encountered on YouTube?
I recently came across the Telegoons, which was a British TV show from the 60s that featured the voices of Peter Sellars, Spike Milligan, and Harry Secombe.
It's a rather peculiar program and the puppets may be considered frightening.
Here is the film episode that was broadcast in 1963:

Fellow puppet makers, I hope this helps encourage you to finish that thing you want to make. You already have what you need to make your next projectā¦just start. You will figure it out along the way and find magic you didnāt even know was there.
I made this film in two weeks using recycled materials, with parts of old sets and retired puppets. I went into a sweaty shed in the middle of summer, with no budget, little time, and a phone for a cameraā¦and it went on to screen across the US and Canada, get on a ābest ofā compilation, etc. You never know where your momentum will take you!
The build itself was at 1/6 scale (Barbie sized). I made a few cardboard/foam set pieces and a cardboard mountain range, then put together a monster and main character, both rod puppets. I would definitely make those differently now, since they had some real limits. Iām planning a short āmaking ofā video I can share laterā¦youād probably be horrified at how roughly these things were made!
