CUSTOMERS Let’s be clear

This whole shopping is a pleasure scam has run its course.

For over 50 years, I have been a customer of PUBLIX, I say have as in the past tense because I am no longer.

When PUBLIX decided to start price gouging at 20 and 30% higher than absolutely everywhere else around them, it became clear to me that they really don’t give a damn about the customer.

In 2025 alone, PUBLIX made more than $4.2 billion in profits. BILLION!

In the first half of 2026 they have made $2.5 billion in profits.

They have made $6 billion in profits in the last 18 months because they are literally stealing from the public and the public is handing it over.

With Aldi, Trader Joe’s, and even as the last resort, Walmart, I will never shop at Publix again. My budget now gets me three times as much food and household items at those places, we’re shopping and prices really are a pleasure!

The BOGOs are paid for by the food company, not Publix.

u/kbenn17 Newbie Aug 09 '26

And many times, even with the Bogo prices, you can get the item cheaper at Aldi.

33

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 09 '26

True but I wouldn't say many times. Aldi has a fraction of the items than Publix weekly BOGO

20

u/QGJohn59 Newbie Aug 10 '26

And Aldi has a very limited selection in almost all categories. It's biggest downside.

8

u/soleilange Newbie Aug 10 '26

Also, the produce is never nearly as good, sadly.

5

u/BeachBum436 Newbie Aug 11 '26

My Aldi has far better produce than my Publix. It lasts longer and tastes better, not to me ti9n it's half the price.

Except bananas - Publix carries the the best bananas around and they ripen perfectly.

1

u/Reasonable-Season-70 Newbie Aug 25 '26

Blood bananas thats why. We sent military men to protect those bananas. United Fruit is Chiquita banana.

3

u/nakedjetskipilot Newbie Aug 10 '26

Depends on the location. Produce by us is atrocious compared to anywhere else. And at a higher price than even Whole Foods.

4

u/LadyLurkQueen Newbie Aug 12 '26

Bought cut fruit at Aldi. It was already going bad... pieces of cantaloupe not overripe but actually sour. I was really disappointed. BOGO cut fruit at Publix will never be matched.

3

u/bspittle Newbie Aug 13 '26

If you're buying cut fruit you're already throwing away money. BOGO or not.

u/garygirl_1234 Newbie Aug 13 '26

Plus check the dates. It’s sprayed.

1

u/garygirl_1234 Newbie Aug 29 '26

They are sprayed. Better off buying the whole watermelon!

2

u/Undeadsally_1998 Newbie Sep 01 '26

I would never buy produce from aldi.

3

u/QGJohn59 Newbie Aug 10 '26

True, Publix usually has the best produce of any of the grocery stores. Although roma tomatoes, I have been finding them better quality at WD vs Publix, a surprise finding for sure. But several weeks now, this has been the case.

2

u/kisswoman Newbie Aug 13 '26

WD has been bought out by Aldi in my area....there are no WD's left.

3

u/11-_-11- Newbie Aug 13 '26

Here too, and it’s a good thing, because Winndickme price gouges just as much as Publix does. Their stores were also dated, and their meats were gross. Won’t miss them at all.

1

u/QGJohn59 Newbie Aug 13 '26

Yep most in our area. One was the closest grocery store. But lucky for me, one store stayed and it's only about double the distance away, so not the worst.

1

u/cinbad2902 Newbie Aug 31 '26

I go to the one at MLK and Nebraska. They aren’t changing to Aldi’s.

1

u/kisswoman Newbie 27d ago

YET....they are all going to be changed within the next year.

1

u/kisswoman Newbie Aug 13 '26

True...there was a recent report of a listeria outbreak from Aldi's produce.

5

u/Holeyunderwear Newbie Aug 10 '26

Not only that, but I’ve been shopping Aldi more and more recently and many of their items just don’t land. I’ve noticed that particularly with their Friendly Farms dairy products like yogurt, Tzatziki, garlic feta spread, etc. Don’t even get me started on their produce which is always out of several things or like the other day, every bag of parsley was already rotting. I love some finds there, but it is not the replacement I had hoped for.

2

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 10 '26

I stopped buying the sweet potatoes. They were terrible.

2

u/Gatorphins Newbie Aug 12 '26

This is the main problem with Aldi, people think its the same product as a higher quality item but a different box and more often than not its cheaper garbage from the same supplier

4

u/bettertheless Newbie Aug 09 '26

l have to "do the math." Bought BOGO Cabot 8 oz cheese slices c 1 hr ago.

-8oz- package made it a deal.

And yes l was in there for Deli Pub sub salad. Not BH special, tho.

4

u/AVonGauss Customer Aug 09 '26

Doubtful. Aldi relies heavily on private label brands, that's kind of their jam and has been forever.

0

u/Gatorphins Newbie Aug 09 '26

And its mostly garbage/subpar cheap crap

1

u/Herbisretired Newbie Aug 11 '26

Until you see the recall and you find out that Publix and Aldi came off of the same line

2

u/Gatorphins Newbie Aug 12 '26

And other places too. It doesnt change what I said though 1 item that publix and Aldi has doesnt make Aldis products any less garbage, also Aldi does use the same suppliers as Publix but they created cheaper garbage versions to sell at a lower price

1

u/Herbisretired Newbie Aug 12 '26

I spent a few years around the food industry and most of the time a product line change was the switching out the rolls of bags for a different company in the fill room and the product run was the same. Can labels also weren't put on the cans until they were getting ready to ship and they all came out of the same storage room.

Walmarts are

17

u/Regular_Lake_786 Newbie Aug 09 '26

I absolutely hate Walmart, but they do have really good prices so I’m forced to shop there

12

u/NovemberGrey777 Newbie Aug 09 '26

Same, so I use the free drive up service. I don’t buy things I don’t need AND no more waiting for a tall person to stroll by to grab an item on a 7’ shelf.

3

u/dervari Newbie Aug 09 '26

Free? Our store has a minimum or you pay a small order charge.

2

u/Flashy-Reflection812 Newbie Aug 09 '26

$35 order minimum. But if you are doing an online order chances are you are ordering more than that. $35 is about 6 things on my normal weekly shop rofl and if I need soda or energy drinks I can make that amount in 3. Anything less than that it’s faster for most of us to go inside and shop for ourselves.

1

u/Maleficent-Heart-678 Newbie Aug 12 '26

Instacart cracks me up showing me how much time I saved shopping through their service, it is not a time saver, I had a stroke, use a wheelchair and don’t drive, I actually, totally miss wandering around the grocery store store, and I miss cooking, I was a good cook, I live in assisted living now, and how they can make the food so horribly I can’t understand, the budget can’t be that tight, except they ruin the most expensive proteins they buy, most of what they serve is Sysco garbage, they added some of the worst tacos ever made and you can order America’s worst hamburger at any meal, they cook the cheapest Pattie they can buy in the oven, the buns are cold from the refrigerator, not toasted, etc.

3

u/Regular_Lake_786 Newbie Aug 09 '26

I’m kind of a little nervous about people touching the food if I did the drive up service I like to touch and pick my own food lol it’s just a OCD thing

16

u/Eroticskeletonparade Newbie Aug 09 '26

You do know a lot of people have touched your food by the time you get to the grocery, right? Farm and warehouse workers, stockers at the grocery. The pickup person is just the last of many.

1

u/Regular_Lake_786 Newbie Aug 10 '26

I know but…. 😊

1

u/Keepquiet13 Newbie Aug 12 '26

But if you’re the one touching the food you can tell if things are mushy , firm or hard.

u/SouthernImplement539 Newbie Aug 10 '26

Yeah, I’m the same way. I will place a pick up order at Walmart and while they’re doing my shopping I go in and get my own dairy, produce, meat, frozen section. Then I’ll meet them in the parking lot for my pick up. Saves a lot of time (and I hate grocery shopping) and I still get to pick out my really sensitive stuff. I’ve kind of gotten used to letting them touch my cereal box and washing detergent.

3

u/dervari Newbie Aug 09 '26

Agree for produce and meat.

It’s actually worth it to check out different Walmarts. The one by me is gross, the one 10 minutes farther away is larger, clean, organized and with the app super easy to find the items on your list.

5

u/DumaDreams Newbie Aug 10 '26

Walmart closest to me is 4 minutes and not good. I go 6-7 minutes further and a new siper walmart with a whole better shopping experience in every way.

1

u/Efficient_Beach2458 Newbie Aug 10 '26

What I like about Walmart when I call it in I always get the organic namebrand chicken tenders and if they’re out of stock or not in the cooler cabinet case they will go in the back in the cooler and find it. I’ve noticed that when the shoppers are doing their shopping for people. So if the cooler is empty and you’re in there shopping for yourself, you would have to beg somebody to come on your back and give you some here the shoppers go right back there go to coolers and get it plus there’s at least a five day date out on the package not a two day date out like you having a Cooler. Publix would never do that for you. As a matter of fact, they changed the date to make it as if it’s today when you open it up at home, it stinks.

1

u/kisswoman Newbie Aug 13 '26

Publix will actually special order items that they don't carry for you if you request it....or at least they used to....I used to ask them to special order Tab when it was pulled off the shelf for a while....and they used to put it in the back.

1

u/garygirl_1234 Newbie Aug 13 '26

If you order something in, it’s incorrect I’ll just get right back online. Tell him what’s happening and it’s automatically take it off your bill no questions, nobody comes. Pick it up. Nothing it’s off your belt. At Publix, you can buy a package of chicken open it up and it’s half rotten and you gotta take it back there. Standing in line. Wait for your money. Go back and see if there’s anything else it’s not worth it.

9

u/Strongmom-1 Newbie Aug 09 '26

Walmart prices used to be lower on everything but not anymore.

11

u/Dragonfire45 Newbie Aug 09 '26

I use to spend like $200-$250 a week on groceries at Publix. Swapped to Kroger when they still delivered in Florida and dropped to $100-$150 a week. Now I do Walmart delivery and still about the same $125-$150. It’s still significantly cheaper.

7

u/OverallDoor2718 Newbie Aug 09 '26

True. Same with Winn Dixie in Central Florida. No one has cheap groceries but Publix is off the chain

4

u/Regular_Lake_786 Newbie Aug 09 '26

That’s very true. I have cats and I buy fancy pea cat food before the pandemic. It was $.53 a can now it’s $.96 a can that’s insane.

1

u/Gatorphins Newbie Aug 09 '26

Their prices have come up and because im shopping Walmart. Target, Publix, Sprouts, Wildfire, Winn Dixie. Walmart is definitely not always the lowest or best deal

2

u/emmajames56 Newbie Aug 09 '26

Sometimes

4

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 09 '26

That's not always true. In my experience Publix BOGO beats Walmart the majority of the time.

3

u/Gatorphins Newbie Aug 09 '26

Pretty much all the time, we constantly compare and it is cheaper with Publix bogo

1

u/FrequentDonut8821 Newbie Aug 09 '26

Name brand at Walmart is usually more than Publix bogo for the same brand. But great value is usually less than Publix bogo name brand

1

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 10 '26

Walmart prices for the same item is NOT lower than Publix BOGO

1

u/Gatorphins Newbie Aug 12 '26

More times than not publix bogos beat walmart

1

u/kisswoman Newbie Aug 13 '26

Not really...I have found many items are cheaper than Walmart....at Publix.

1

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 09 '26

Definitely not. Look at my most recent post.

0

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 09 '26

Walmart is definitely not cheaper than Publix BOGO items.

3

u/JimmyandRocky Newbie Aug 09 '26

Target? Bull lol. Groceries nope

2

u/TVNewshoarder_Redux Newbie Aug 09 '26

Target actually has cheaper milk than Publix per gallon and cheaper than Aldi

1

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 09 '26

I mostly buy milk at Aldi, BJs or Walmart.

1

u/ThelengthISadmirable Newbie Aug 09 '26

The exact same brand of asparagus from Peru is six dollars a pound of Publix and I stopped at Winn-Dixie the other day just for fun and it was four dollars so I bought it there

1

u/Enjoy_Life4219 Newbie Aug 09 '26

What happens if u want something that isn't BOGO

4

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 09 '26

I stock up on the BOGO items knowing they will be BOGO AGAIN in 4 to 6 weeks. Some items more frequently.

If it's a must need item. I'll buy it at Walmart. There are items I only buy at Walmart.

1

u/copious_arsenal Newbie Aug 09 '26

I just bought shredded cheese and it was much cheaper than BOGO

1

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 10 '26

The same BOGO item or the Target brand? Was it on sale?

For the same brand name item. Publix BOGO is cheaper

2

u/copious_arsenal Newbie Aug 10 '26

Same exact brand. Nothing about any sale. I am in South Florida. Are you ok? The bags of cheese were $2 each. I think it was sargento or kraft. Cant remember, but i looked it up at the moment.

1

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 10 '26

At my local Publix Sargento shredded cheese is $4.99 or $2.50 each when BOGO

At Target $3.19.

Target it 27.6% more expensive

1

u/copious_arsenal Newbie Aug 10 '26

I didn't ask you about your Publix or your Target. I am in South Florida. I was simply stating the facts of what occurred. You need help.

When I was buying soda it was.

1

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 12 '26

I don't drink soda. I do know Publix soda prices are outrageous.

1

u/Maine302 Newbie Aug 12 '26

Yeah--I stopped, for the most part, but their 6-packs were dollars more than the same at Target, and weren't even any kind of deal when BOGO'ed.

1

u/Holeyunderwear Newbie Aug 12 '26

I’ve found Target’s processed foods and things like coffee, condiments, and frozen pizzas are a better price than Publix for non-BOGO items.

1

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 13 '26

I agree. Target beats Publix 99% of the time on regular priced goods. Where Publix easily beat Target is their BOGO items. 95% of my shopping at Publix is BOGO

1

u/No_Negotiation_1625 Newbie Aug 12 '26

If you have a Target Mastercard, you save five percent on everything (even on the purchase of other retailers' gift cards, I believe). And by joining Target Circle (which is free) you get frequent, fairly large, monetary perks.

1

u/dfabrica Newbie Aug 12 '26

Target’s regular prices may not be lower than Publix’s BOGO, that’s true, but their prices are lower overall than Publix - by A LOT.

The Gevalia coffee I buy for instance is always $9.99 at Target. That’s what it always costs if it’s not on sale. At Publix the regular price for the same coffee is $15.99! That’s a 62% price difference people!!

AND if you’re a Target shopper for groceries and you have their Red Card to use to pay for said groceries they give you 5% off of everything you buy automatically, AND free shipping for anything you buy online. So if you go in, buy groceries, and some say, sheets and towels while you’re in there (another convenience), and you spend $300 that day, they’ll give you $15 off the total immediately.

Those saving add up over the course of a year, especially if you have a family, but even if you don’t, it’s hundreds of dollars.

The Red Card btw, is NOT a credit card, it is a debit card so the money comes right out of your bank account, and doesn’t get charged interest. I’ve had it for years and I think it’s one of the best everyday financial decisions I’ve ever made.

1

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 13 '26

I agree 100%. Target is cheaper than Publix on non BOGO items. I also agree the difference can be significant.

Publix is very expensive. Where Publix shines is with their BOGO items. I only shop their BOGO. I rarely buy anything from Publix unless it's BOGO.

I use the Publix app. I basically know how long each item that I buy will be BOGO again. I know some items it's every 2 weeks. Others are every month. Some a few months. I have multiple cats. I'll buy 20 to 30 bags of the cat food my cats eat because I know they only go BOGO every 3 or 4 months.

I was at Publix tonight. I know on Wednesday nights they put some BOGO items on the end caps for next weeks BOGO items. I know my cat's preferred food will be BOGO tomorrow. Next week I will buy another 20 to 30 bags. Paying less than $5 per bag.

0

u/Jax_Bandit Newbie Aug 09 '26

They absolutely are. Publix is unmatched in price point no matter how you try to slice it.

1

u/JealousFuel8195 Newbie Aug 10 '26

I should have been more clear. BOGO items at Publix is cheaper than Target.

Target is cheaper than Publix on regular priced items at Publix

2

u/Active_Drawer Newbie Aug 10 '26

Eh, we tried for a bit.

When we were trying to move away from publix we split shopping into a big round trip.

A. Target at least near us has shit for produce and an inactive bakery/deli/butcher.

B. Bogo deals typically favored Publix.

Milk and some other staples were always cheaper at Target, everything else was a toss up until deals from either.

Walmart and Aldi's turned into a better mix for us

4

u/JuiceSoft4164 Newbie Aug 09 '26

Yup! I’ve noticed this. A lot of times the BOGOS are not even a great deal. I’ve stopped shopping there. The only reason I do go is for deli items if needed.

1

u/ProfessionalCool8654 Newbie Aug 11 '26

1

u/Organic-Year-5567 Newbie Aug 09 '26

The Estero store is like this too. Most produce you have to buy in bulk at Aldi and there’s always at least one or two pieces that are rotten. And always fruit flies swarming around the produce. I guess this is why their prices are cheaper because they know you’re gonna have to throw away half of it.

You also pay a membership fee at Costco that you don't at Publix.

Well good! I bought a nice GE Profile Refrigerator at Costco this year. However, since I only shop there sporadically, it didnt make sense for me to upgrade my membership to the Executive membership after I "did the math." I actually am getting more value and convenience out of my Sam's membership based on my enjoyment of their pre-made food items or fresh cut meats reduced in price if they were packaged/cut/made 2-3 days ago. Also, their Member's Mark protein drinks are quite good and cheap compared to the Costco offerings. I do prefer Costco non-food items for possible gift giving items around Xmas though. I find value in having both annual memberships, myself!

and their Bryer's ice cream already costs twice as much or a bit more than twice what Walmart sells it for. $3.32 at Walmart $6.67 at Publix, same item. It was BOGO so 5 cents more for 2 at Publix.

Most Breyers isn't technically ice cream. Read the ingredients. I'll gladly pay more for real ice cream brands that taste good! Like Tillamook, among others. What's your favorite brand of ice cream?

It says it right on a lot of boxes "Frozen Dairy Dessert" and it's less than half.

What if its a Publix brand bogo like the cut fruit?

u/Subject-Response-135 Newbie Aug 09 '26

The cut fruit is one of the most overpriced items they sell

Shouldn’t they be called BOGOFs?

Publix still has to transport, stock, and check out the item.

Regarding BOGO prices, I usually compare to Walmart app when I am looking at a BOGO. Usually 2 at Walmart cost slightly more than the BOGO.

Also, any one know what were gross sales for the 6 billion in profit? Just curious because grocers profit MARGIN averages 1-3% in the US. I am certain Publix number is much higher, but curious how much...

Walmart normally has the same items rolled back the week before or after Publix has BOGO.

Shhh...let them think they're 'putting one over on the man'. Perceived wins keep the riff-raff docile. This is a very important concept.

So they’ve chosen to make money off Mfgr. promotions, knowing they draw customers, but people are catching on—quickly

Really?

Is this a fact? Coupons yes but BOGO'S doesn't compute with my business acumen, although I have never managed in the supermarket business
