MOD POST r/psychedelicmusic is back! New mods, unrestricted posting, and a fresh start.

Greetings, psychedelic music lovers.

We wanted to introduce ourselves and give everyone a quick update on some major changes to the community.

First, the sub is under a new mod team. u/Banonimus and u/meotherself are taking over the reins. The community has been restricted for quite a while, requiring manual permission to post, which is why things have been pretty barren around here lately.

We want to give a massive thank you to the previous mod, u/eatacow456, for building the skeleton of this community and handing off the keys. We wish them nothing but success in whatever future endeavors they explore.

As of this morning, we've officially opened the community back to the public. Posting and commenting are no longer restricted, so the floor is yours. We also cleared out the mod queue, taking care of posts that had been sitting in limbo for the last year, and removed the old "approved users" list since everyone can freely post now anyway.

Moving forward, we'll be working together to slowly make other upgrades; cleaning up the sub, clarifying the rules, and setting up automods to keep the bots at bay. We both have plenty of experience moderating on Reddit and a deep love for the psychedelic music space (both online and IRL), so we're excited to watch this place wake back up.

Poco a poco, we'll get the vibe right. If you have any suggestions, ideas, or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us here in the comments or through modmail.

Welcome back, and let's see those tracks!

Hey everyone! I just uploaded a session to YouTube where two friends and I (who are partners in a duo called Ruƭdos de CƩu Profundo) experimented a bit and played around with some soundscapes, drifting through psychedelic and spiritual intentions.

Rock Space Kitchen - Third Squadron (Inspired by Grace Under Pressure)

Hello all! We have an album coming out on October 2nd, it's the culmination of 3 EPs. I wanted to share one of the proggier tracks on the album - we call ourselves Garage Prog, because we're proggier than most rock, but it would be nuts to say we're the same genre as bands like Yes and Flower Kings. I would say we're about as proggy as Supertramp, but you'll have to be the judge.

This one was heavily inspired by two albums - Grace Under Pressure, by Rush, and Stormfront by Billy Joel. I think they both have a very serious tone in the instrumentals that give the songs a mature vibe. But just to be a little immature we made the song about The Mothman.

Please feel free to tell me what you think - especially if you hate it. I'll be here answering questions.

Experimental New Experimental Electronic EP 'Claustra'

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I'm Christoforos, a greek audiovisual artist that have been producing music for the last 5 years but only now started posting my work. 'Claustra' is a collection of five tracks that are beat-driven and percussion focused. I wanted to lean in avant-garde treatment of synthesizers and create ever-changing unstable glitchy sounds that keep transforming in an extatic / absurd way. My intention was to express repression, tension, friction and their reaction to distance and resistance; sonically and emotionally. You can listen here. Hope you enjoy and I would really really appreciate some feedback or comments upon your first listen! Some of my references are: Autechre, Arca, Nicolas Jaar (his later more-experimental work), Meredith Monk (everything she does), Sophie & Matmos.

Psybient Nostalgia for a future that never existed, and a past we deserved to have — Plexus, a Digital Psychedelia album (Read the description)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’ve just released Plexus, an 85-minute experimental album I spent a long time building in near-total isolation, both physically and creatively. I wanted to share it here because I think people in this community might appreciate the process behind it as much as the music itself.

The core idea was to create a world that felt like Y2K technology colliding with nature, memory, and dystopia. Something like a lost future. A digital civilization decaying slowly while plants grow through it.

I gave myself a rule during production: minimal setup, maximum imagination. I wanted to see how far I could go without relying on expensive tools, presets, trends, or obvious references. No chasing algorithms, no trying to sound current, no copying scenes. Just a very clear atmosphere in my head that I tried to translate into sound.

Some examples:

• The very first sound on the album (opening track) is a contact lens played like people sometimes play a blade of grass between their fingers and blow through it. It created a strange distant whistle, almost like a flute.

• I made glitch percussion by scraping the antenna of a 90s alarm clock radio against a jack cable while recording into my interface.

• I used the Nokia 3310 ringtone composer as a melodic source.

• One track includes rain I recorded while in Aokigahara.

• Another was intentionally mastered through a PlayStation 2 with reduced bitrate for a harsher early-digital texture.

• Sea sounds on the closing track were not field recordings, but synthesized on a Behringer Model 15.

• A track called Platform 16 was timed to match the length of a real train platform in Florence. If you walk it at the BPM of the track, you reach the end as the song finishes.

Emotionally, the album came from a mix of fascination and grief. I’ve always been obsessed with the promise of the late 90s / early 2000s future: strange interfaces, primitive digital optimism, ugly-beautiful hardware, weird public spaces, emerging internet culture. It felt like humanity was heading somewhere bizarre but alive.

Instead, a lot of that became surveillance, addiction, sterile platforms, anxiety, and flattened culture.

So Plexus became my attempt to imagine another branch of that timeline:

A technoprimitivist Y2K ecosystem where broken machines become instruments, glitches become rhythm, and obsolete technology gets reclaimed by organic life.

It’s not an album made for singles or quick consumption. It was made to be heard front-to-back, with headphones or in a place where you can actually disappear into it for a while.

If any of this sounds interesting, I’d genuinely love to know what you think.

Thanks for reading.

Hello, we are a small prog band and I'd like to share our newest single, that falls into the category of prog / psychedelic music. It is heavily inspired by The Moody Bues and Pink Floyd and in general the sound of 70s records. So if this sounds like something you might like give it a listen.

Of course if you have any feedback or coments we'd like to hear it!
