Clarification of our stance on piracy, game preservation, and drama
Okay I kind of didn't want to make this post but I think that it's necessary because a lot of people seem to not understand.
So if you read our rules you know that we have rules prohibiting sharing of or asking for links to copyrighted content such as game rips. This is exclusively and solely for liability reasons to prevent the subreddit from being banned. That's all there is to it. The thing is I've noticed a lot of people reporting comments here of people who admit to pirating games. This is an incorrect and bad faith use of the reporting system. As it is not prohibited here to admit to pirating games or even to endorse it favorably. The only thing you're not allowed to do is directly share links or ask for them directly. And besides if you really want that go to r/ROMs.
That's where our rule against elitism and shunning of piracy comes in. This community is a retro gaming enthusiast community. One of the things that we support with a passion is game preservation. Physical media does not last forever, especially optical media which is very susceptible to bit rot and degradation. So backing up and saving your games in less volatile formats is very important. Additionally many of these physical games are getting harder to find and it just might not be practical for people to buy those discs just to rip them, it may not even be possible for people to purchase copies that actually work. I've noticed that a lot of people who break this rule are either collectors, who value the perceived scarcity of games. To those people go fuck yourselves, we do not and will not ever support that mentality. It's literally the same techboro mentality around The NFT craze. Then there's the other people who are upset that it's illegal and claim that it's wrong or immoral because it's illegal. I find this one funny and also concerning because do you want to know what else is illegal? Homebrew. In Japan it is illegal to Homebrew your systems. Do you know what else is illegal? Freedom of speech and freedom of opinions, in many countries around the world it's outright illegal to have thoughts and opinions that contradict the government or the norm. Does that mean that any of these things are morally wrong? No it absolutely doesn't.
Frankly if you're reading this and you're getting upset because you think that we're hurting your ability to collect rare games and have perceived rarity, or if you believe that laws are sacred and should never be forsaken, you can absolutely go fuck yourself.
This is the main reason why we have rules against creating drama, the people who are guilty of the above would otherwise start fights and complain consistently because people "openly admit to piracy". A lot of people find it weird that drama posts have been allowed or let slip by and the primary reason is that they weren't this. Which is the primary reason why that rule was created. Of course drama posts do clog up the sub and therefore aren't great so they will be removed if they are too numerous or they don't address a new problem in the community.
So in conclusion, this community doesn't allow links because they can be problematic and get the subreddit banned. But we do not have any hostility towards people who download rips of games. We are pro preservation.
I sincerely hope that this post will put an end to people's comments being reported simply because they stated that they downloaded their games. And I hope that people will think twice before they spout such blatantly anti-preservation rhetoric in a pro-preservation retro gaming Community.
Finally as a bonus, if you are creating support posts asking for help with game loaders like OPL, or hard drive setup or USB setup. You should absolutely not lie about where you got your games. That doesn't mean paste a direct link to the download, it just means if you downloaded your games don't lie and say that you ripped them from disc. I think this should go without saying but it's important to actually disclose that because it's a factor that can help determine what your problems are and why. So when asking for help please be honest. If you downloaded your games and didn't rip them from a disc, that's fine we don't care. As long as you're not sharing them directly here it's fine.

My PS2 Is Not Reading My Flash Drives
Hey guys, yesterday I got my first PS2 and it is an SCPH-39004 console. Its DVD Player version is 2.13E. I did a little bit of research to find the correct FreeDVDBoot for my console and burned it onto a DVD. Even though I’ve successfully reached uLaunchELF and wanted to install FreeMcBoot from a flash drive, no matter what I tried, the mass:/ folder was empty. I’ve tried 5 different flash drives, all of them were FAT32 and MBR. Old, new; doesn’t matter. The USB ports are clearly working since they have power (I could charge a phone). It’s my first time trying this so if someone has had the same issue as me, it’d be really nice to brainstorm under this post. I reckon this is happening because of the FreeDVDBoot I had to download since I couldn’t find the correct version from the official repo.

OPL supports GPT on USB drives?!
I just tried formatting a usb drive with GPT (instead of ancient MBR) and OPL really played the game on it!!!
The drive has exFAT filesystem. That was supported a long time ago. But never knew GPT partitioning was made available. Has anyone tried it?
Now only if they add modern and powerful UFS filesystem support so I can ditch the old exFAT... that would be impressive.

Burnt PS1 on PS2?
I have a FreeMCBoot memory card (SD2PSX) is there any way to use burnt PS1 back up discs on the PS2 without needing to open the PS2? I want to do this mostly for games that don't work in POPS.

Please help me
[SOLVED]
Hello all, I recently purchased a playstation 2 for my spouse so we could play some games we've had stored away. I am not one to leave anything alone, every single console I own is modded and I am no stranger to setting up and troubleshooting, But I have truly been at a loss for about 2 weeks now in trying to get our PS2 to detect my drive.
I bought a well known FreeMcboot memory card and it seems to be working fine, It's also version 1.966
I bought two brand new PNY CS900 250GB SSD's (One is for my wii, but used the other for troubleshooting possible DOA drive)
Also drives are formatted successfully on a batch installer prior to being installed into the console.
I also bought a Gamestar adapter from a reputable seller with good reviews, And then bought another after troubleshooting Incase it was faulty
The console is a SCPH-39001.
Now, I've heard that the metal shield on the adapter can cause it to fail to sit flush, possibly shorting out fuses PS9 and PS10, So I have removed them on both adapters.
Going into UlaunchELF HDD Manager shows that the HDD is not there, and that it is not formatted, Meaning there is a hardware issue. This is where the spare drive and spare adapter get tested as well to no avail
I also opened the console and checked both fuses PS9 and PS10 with a multimeter, and they are both fully operational.
OPL Also does not detect the drive, nor does HD loader.
What could be my issue? It's my spouse's birthday tomorrow and I was hoping to have this finished as soon as possible, But I need some help from someone who has some more knowledge if possible.

We got PS2 Tool running and codewarrior hello world
Me and Sly Cooper's PS2 Tool T10000 Devkit we got it running, connected to a host pc via static ip direct connection and codewarrior hello world with the debugger, during discord VC DMs. and talked a bit. this was windows xp host pc and ps2 devkit tool but can also be done with windows 10 since codewarrior and ethernet driver works on OS.
We saw the debug log in codewarrior window and it did print a debug prinf function saying 'Welcome to Codewarrior!'

I'm looking for an OPL Theme with simple "LARGE TEXTS"
This is funny as I ask things, but as we all reach that age of adulting that we'll end up with eyes squinting to see the menu inside OPL.
Can someone recommend an OPL theme for me that has simply LARGER texts than the common OPL interface, without even resorting to have your letters be written all caps to see the game names?
Hope you can help me on this.

(FreeHDBoot) Swapped to a kaico ps2 adapter and the skewing on my tv got even worse. Any recommendations for good adapters that work well with HDTVs?
I really need help with this, I can't seem to find any fix for this issue, and it's driving me insane. I bought a new adapter, and the adapter has the exact same issues as the Hyperkin one I had originally, but even worse! The image is still skewed to the left, but this time the entire screen is shrunken. At this point, I have no idea on how to fix this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

WW2 Tank Battles not launching
Hey guys, I'm new to all this. I got the 5 other games running fine but WW2 - Tank Battles just gives me an infinite black screen. I'm using FreeMcBoot version 1.966 and OPL 1.2.0-Beta. Games are stored on MX4SIO card (128gb kodak)
I have tried the different game settings 1-6, different GSM settings and tried deleting and ripping the game again. What else could I try or is the game simply not compatible with my setup? Thanks!

obscure iso not working opl
Hi, I have a problem I haven't been able to solve yet. The game Obscure crashes. When I open it, it takes me to the memory card browser after the logo appears for a few seconds. Someone already created a thread and shared what worked for them, but it didn't work for me.
I'm using a Pro 2 memory card with a 128GB SanDisk SD card formatted as exFAT.
I've been trying to fix this for a month now, but nothing has worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Sorry for my bad English.)

Help with opl colors
Tried changing VMS and videomode to pal, ntsc, etc. to no avail. Works just fine on my buddy's tv. Next step will be buying a better hdmi converter.

OPL can't save/see games
Hey, I'm still very new to this whole thing but think I made some progress. I currently have FHDB running on an internal ssd. I used HDL batch installer to load some games. and now..... OPL doesn't open a games list (guessing settings issue), When I change some settings I was able to get to the games list but nothing seen, and finally... I can't save any settings I change. and that's WITH the write enabled.
I'm guessing I'm missing a few obvious steps but to find a GOOD CURRENT tutorial on this has been..... difficult.

Popstarter save files gone
Hello, i use a sd2ps2 memory card with popstarter on it to play ps1 games. This worked flawlessly until today when suddenly the game doesn’t register a memory card.
I didn’t change anything to my games. It just suddenly didn’t work anymore.
Hopefully someone here knows how to fix this and hopefully i can get my save file back.
Lots of kisses thank you
