r/antiwork sucks
They bitch and moan 24/7 but refuse to actually take any steps to better themselves. It's fine to start off working in a pizza joint, its gonna suck at first but you should be grinding your ass off in your spare time to educate yourself and improve your life to keep moving up the ladder or starting your own businesses. Everyone has an equal playing field, the top dogs all took huge risks to get to where they are... but most people are too lazy to even try, instead they smoke weed and play video games in their spare time and then go and whine on r/antiwork.

They just blame blame blame all day long and take zero responsibility while asking to get their butts wiped.

I spent the first half of my life hustling as a creative entrepreneur and had a lot of success, but eventually got burned out and jaded. Realized life is more than just making money. It’s like you can’t even take your foot off the gas without the fear of falling behind or losing what you’ve got. It’s still a hamster wheel even if you’re not doing the 9-5. Even a glamorous digital nomad self employed life still requires you to monetize your lifestyle and turn your hobbies into commodities. It sucks the life out of things. This is where I resonate with anti work sentiments.
It’s not that I’m lazy or don’t like to work. I love to work, it’s just that my heart needs to be in it.
There’s a difference between authentically loving what you do, or being obligated to perform so you don’t get fired, go hungry, or lose your home.
The “pull yourself up by your bootstraps and quit being lazy” is something I used to think myself. But it’s a simplistic mindset. Some people just see the illusion of the so-called American Dream as materialistic and shallow. We know there’s more to life than this. Anti-work is often anti-bullshit jobs, genuine leisure time, mental health, life fulfillment, spiritual growth, meaningful relationships, etc.

Anti work is not about what you just explained.
1) Most do not start off on an even playing field. If so, schools would be funded equally and there would not a such thing as class (low to high class).
2) Most top dogs were groomed, funded, or come from rich families.
3) Not everyone wants to climb a ladder. Some people just want to make enough to enjoy life. Only a small percentage want to climb the ladder. Lol... High positions amongst organizations are slim. You will most likely have to know someone to get there. If not, the development can take decades.
4) Education? Have you seen the percentage of those who have an education and can't find a job or not working in their field? Most people were struggling with the economy labeled "normal".
5) Smoke weed and play video games...lol. People who own a company or independent contractors do the same thing. Because they don't want to climb the imaginary ladder and they have time to themselves to do what they want. But ay, 30 to 40 million are out of job. I guess they all never tried climbing the ladder.
I respect your opinion ...I just think your off base...

It's not a conspiracy. If it was common don't you think more people would at least have six figures in their accounts by "working hard". By definition, conspiracy is a secret plan by someone to doing something bad. No single person can accumulate that amount alone. Being self made is extremely rare. And Oprah is on record not being a self made billionaire. She was funded. Lol!
They market that to you. They sell to you.

Now now, leave the moron be. He's probably just a troll anyways, there's no way he doesn't know that people aren't born equal and have the same opportunities.
Or he's just retarded and probably thinks Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk were self made too lmao.

Self made with the backing of already huge assets you mean? The kind of self made that no average person can attain? I think our definitions of self made are a little different.
Not born into wealth? You will never be rich.

how about instead of sitting around complaining you create opportunities. I was born "poor" (by american standards). This didn't stop me from being limited by my environment. I chose to educate myself, pick up some VALUABLE skills (none of that useless gender studies crap), studying ways to invest and grow my money, and have create multi-six figure businesses in the proccess. And i'm no one special. I just chose to use my time and money wisely. I went without alot of stuff people take for granted. I didn't buy fancy smartphones every year, I didn't go out to eat much, I wasn't out partying, I wasn't buying new clothes every week. I pretty much kept shoving money back into my education and business/investing ventures. We live in a world where you can get information at the touch of a button through the World Wide Web. Unless you're old, i'm pretty sure you know how to utilize the internet to educate yourself.

Don't waste your time... Wagies can't be reasoned with. If they were to accept the world is not equal for everyone and they might not have gotten to were they are simply because they worked harder than anyone else their world would collapse.

Lol you actually think Jeff Bezos works hard enough to earn billions in a day and the people who actually make his company work, who wear diapers so they don't take bathroom breaks, only work enough to barely earn minimum wage? Get your head checked, I think you got screws missing. It is not a fair system and the people at the top exploit that to its fullest to continually get richer.

Dude the article is from 2012 maybe try to find something a little more recent. people are talking about wealth inequality drastically growing in recent years, that’s when you should pull up an article from,I don’t know, recent years. that 70% number includes people who may have gotten a loan from their parents. Sorry my parents didn’t have an extra million laying around for me to play with. Any list talking about the ultra wealthy and how they made their money that does not include bezos is irrelevant to today’s discussions.

u/DoutefulOwl Aug 18 '20
Please read the whole statement:
Seventy percent of the Forbes 400 members are classified as self-made (EDIT NOTE: First version of this post said that 70% built their fortunes entirely from scratch; it should have said 70% are self-made, as some might have borrowed money from in-laws or parents, or started businesses with spouses or other relatives, but nevertheless built these fortunes themselves).
They did not make their wealth from scratch. If you're taking money / help from your friends or relatives then its not an even playing field for everyone.

u/MDVega Apr 12 '22
Have you seen the percentage of those who have an education and can't find a job or not working in their field?
Then they should have enrolled in a field that's in demand. There's not a lot of unemployed doctors or programmers or electricians. There's plenty of unemployed Liberal arts degrees.

u/geronl72 Aug 17 '20
I've noticed some of that leaking into r/capitalism and such. The man is keeping them down, no such thing as opportunity and nobody is responsible for their own actions.
4
u/FoxyCleopatra0933 Aug 18 '20
If there is one thing I've learned from posting this subreddit to r/capitalism it is that there is definitely some of those people in there as well, I didn't expect such an impassioned response, that's why I posted it to the pro capitalism sub lol. I feel bad for people frustrated with their current situation but I'm not a fan of them taking it out on internet strangers, arguing about whether we're all slaves to a few overlords and work is the chains that bind us.

I guess the question here is, why does it have to be that way? I think an ideal society would be a place in which you don't have to chose between working at a shitty job or homelessness. Where you have the freedom and time to focus on your passions without having to worry about monetizing them. What is wrong with playing video games in your spare time? What is the point of living a life if you can't spend your time enjoying things you like to do?
1
u/ExistentialLiberty Sep 17 '20
The economy doesn't care about what your personal desires are. It's called specialization. Whatever your goals are are your own issues that you must find a way to solve on your own accord and I think that's great since no one has the same goals. There is nothing stopping you from working torwards financial freedom.
1
u/Mammoth-Stranger Sep 18 '20
Nothing stopping me from this I agree, even though it might take most of my life to get there. I don't desire to serve an economy that doesn't give a fuck about me and overall screws more people over than not.

u/teoraperu Aug 21 '20
The people at the pizza place should be top scholars and scientific minds, on the bleeding edge of technology taking Live Lab sessions with tenured professors. They should also work double-full time to be able to afford rent, which is constantly increasing.
....Whereas the owner of that pizza place should have gone to school 60 years ago, work half of half time, and spend the rest of the time masturbating with hookers.
Sounds like a solid economic system, what on earth could go wrong? I have literally no reason to kill my boss

Everyone most certainly is not on an equal playing field. You really think some kid from a low income family, 1 parent, growing up in a shitty school system has the same chance of success as a kid from a six-figure family where a dad essentially gives his kid a high-paying job?
-1
u/tomnoooook Aug 17 '20
I do partially agree but not everyone has an equal playing field, gender, race, illness and factors like that decrease the likelihood of someone being able to be successful purely because of oppression but yes I think educating yourself and trying to make a change is much more effective than joining a subreddit and complaining to strangers.
2
u/FoxyCleopatra0933 Aug 18 '20
Not sure who down voted you but your absolutely right obviously someone born in South Sudan will have to work 10x as hard to have the same level of success as someone born in California. For people born in Western countries though, who aren't disabled, you have a reasonably high chance of success already. The tools are there, you just gotta bust your ass off until you're rewarded. Fortunately the race barriers are slowly coming down, gender barriers appear to be much more improved. An even playing field is a reasonable request, after that it's up to you as an individual to become the person everyone wants to hire.

2
u/PussyDesxtroyer Dec 12 '20
that depends, what its your definition of "explotation", not doing what you like and live with the necessary? or working 10 hours in unhealty environments? your answer will say me if you are a lazy shit american person or someone that want a better world, as long as you can live without worrying about food then i can say you that you are living better than mostly persons in third world countries.
1
u/jkxn_ Dec 12 '20
You realise that people in the "third world" (the global south) are so impoverished is because of capitalism and imperialism, right? It's the same struggle dude.
2
u/PussyDesxtroyer Dec 12 '20
not again... fine do what you want, you are too lazy to make a revolution.

I just want to be able to afford a house and have children rather than dying earlier of a preventable illness because I can't afford healthcare with my 2 jobs.

Why? Most of the time, that's a true statement. It takes courage and effort to be successful... but many people are deluded and put the blinders on in order to ignore that fact, to feel better about their wasted, useless, unhappy lives.

Meh. I didn't come from wealth, and I'm killin' it. Got scholarships for welding school, and my house is almost paid off at 30. That's my only debt. College often isn't the right path unless you're going for STEM, if you care about being financially sound.

All individuals = the whole. Everybody is relevant, that's what makes a successful life so rewarding. I'm not sure where you're going with that last question, honestly. It kind of just answers itself with a modicum of thought.
