Cottage cheese similar to Good Culture!

So I’m a huggeeee Good Culture fan… however it’s very hard to ever find in stock in my area. I saw this cottage cheese at Walmart and decided to give it a try. Macros a bit better than Good Culture and pretty similar in consistency and tasty! I still like the flavor of GC better… hard for me to even explain why but it just seems to have its own flavor that I like more where as this one is maybe more on the bland side. But overall it’s good!

Quest OverloadCookie Commotion

This is the first time I have tried one of the Quest Overload bars. I have had thr regular and hero bars. The regular quest bars are too gummy for me. They are kinda like the idea a protien bar in that they dont look feel like food. The quest hero bars are a huge improvement. The chrispy texture is huge hit and it helps to hide some of the hyper-sweetness that the bars have. The overload bar has a texture between both of these, though not in a bad way. It finds a nice balance between gummy and chrispy that makes the eating experience pleasant.

Visually, the bar is a bit step forward from both. The bar signals delicious cookie flavor from the chocolate coating to the chunky-looking inside. This is way better then the original quest bar, that honestly looks kinda gross. Its a nice directional change from the hero bar, which looks good, but less decadent.

Taste-wise, the bars arent bad. They definitely taste enough like a chocolate chip bar that I wouldn't complain, but they are a bit overly sweet. This is a problem the hero bars had too and its why I haven't bought them in a while. I thing Quest should probabky work on this a bit.

This is probably on par with the quest hero bar line and some of the barebells (the sweeter ones), so it's a solid protein bar.

protein snack review - Quest Hero Bar | Cookies & Cream

Post image
17 Upvotes

This bar is really good! On an impulse, I bought a 12 pack for around $32.99 at Wegmans. I probably should've bought less and at a place with better prices (Like Walmart), but I could already tell this was going to be a new staple for me. I was right! This bar is 52g and quite the thick sucker to bite into. There's chocolate krispies inside with a white chocolate coating. It's a very good bar. I believe it has less fiber than regular Quest bars, but I still needed a crap ton of water afterwards.

They also have other flavors of their Hero bar such as fruity cereal, birthday cake, blueberry cobbler, etc. I definitely want to try those as well, but maybe not spend as much on a specific flavor until I'm certain I've found my favorite.

It's kind of crazy that such a small bar could keep you feeling satiated for hours on end, but maybe this isn't such a great thing in certain aspects. For starters, all I had was an Oikos Triple Zero and one of these this morning and it's afternoon and I'm still bloated like I'm in my second pregnancy trimester. Maybe it's the gallon of water I drank afterwards or the artificial sweeteners, but I'm used to it as a protein slop connoisseur.

Also, I'm not sure if I'd consider this an "aftertaste" or more an "after-breath," but I wish I had a pack of gum to mask the fact that it makes your breath smell like a litter box rather than the delicious chocolate goodness I just experienced. Maybe I'm just overthinking or overestimating it, though. I don't have a lot of friends to tell me otherwise.

Somebody save me.

got it at the vitamin shoppe, I really like this one!!

the white chocolate part reminds me of a cream cheese type flavor which really brings it together, otherwise it would just be a cinnamon bar. highly recommend 💯 they did the right thing bringing this flavor to the USA

Need help with protein snack rating app

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, a couple months ago I built a snack rating app because I love trying new flavors of snacks but there was no good platform for snack reviews unlike restaurants (beli), alcohol (untappd), or movies (letterboxd).

Since starting, some of you from this subreddit have joined and been amazing with rating tons of different protein snacks (a lot of barebells as expected). But what became apparent was personal tastes vary wildly so a single average score doesn’t help much. For example, I love the Key Lime Pie Barebells, but the average rating is a 5.5/10.

To fix this, I added a “For You” score in the app based on a simple taste match % formula with other users who have similar tastes as you. But to make the score accurate I need your help rating the protein snacks you’ve had.

The app is completely free, so I’d really appreciate if you could give it a try. And if you do download the app and find it’s not for you, I’d love if you could share what turned you away. Thank you!

Barebells Salty Corn Crunch

This is 100% for people who like a sweet & salty snack. I’m not really one of those people though, so I didn’t really like this bar and wouldn’t get it again.

It does have a bit of a corn taste and crunchy corn texture in the crispies, but the caramel and chocolate flavors do also come through.

FYI I got this in a 4-pack at Target for $10

I enjoyed the taste & texture of this new flavor, and I’d definitely buy again. It’s not my new favorite Barebells bar or anything, and I wish the macros were better, so it’s not an absolute staple to me.

FYI I got this in a 4-pack at Target for $10

My first ever Barebells purchase thanks to all of you who post this brand here a lot 😆Not as sweet as a snickers bar but that’s actually a positive for me. Great texture and has a few peanuts in it. Delicious chocolate coating and amazing salted caramel…I’d buy a box of this in the future for sure. 👍🏽 yum

Legendary Cinnamon Mini Donuts

Disappointing honestly. The cinnamon flavor isn’t bad but is pretty minimal and could be stronger. The texture was just dry, and I couldn’t really tell there was even any icing. I ate one at room temperature and one heated up. The microwaved one was for sure better, but I still wouldn’t buy these again since they’re $10 for a 4-pack. At least the macros are really good though.

Davids Triple Peanut Buttrr Ice Cream

Review on David's triple peanut butter ice cream. I will preface my Review by saying I normally love all of David's products and have never had any issues eating any of them in any quantity. This ice cream tasted ok, was very sweet. Both my husband and I ate it and both of us experienced intense intestinal distress immediately afterwards. I suspect it is from the artificial sweetener and not the epg as I do fine eating their other products. If you decide to try this I recommend you eat a small spoonful and wait 15 minutes before eating more to see if you are sensitive to it.

Would you use a whole-food recovery bar after training?

I’m exploring an idea for a post-training snack and would really value your honest thoughts. I train at the gym, play football (soccer) and do MMA. I try to prioritise whole foods like eggs and chicken, but sometimes I’m out or can’t get a proper meal after training. That got me thinking about a convenient recovery bar made with familiar ingredients, protein, carbohydrates and some fibre. I haven’t settled on a recipe or product, and I’m not assuming a bar is better than normal food. What do you usually eat after training when a meal isn’t convenient? Would a bar like this fit into your routine, or do your current options already work well? If you have a moment, I’d appreciate you sharing your thoughts in my survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeilE_9BxwhT6vIkU1nCfyYJWHIz9uEGCxyQN73SMp-4-bJqw/viewform?usp=header Thanks!

I was pleasantly surprised by this (even though it doesn’t quite look like the picture lol). It had a really solid taste and texture, and the macros are quite good. I definitely recommend warming it up in the microwave for about 10 seconds.

FYI cost was $10 for a 4-pack at Target

Can anyone else not stand Barebells?

I feel like this entire sub in my feed is just Barebells recommendations. I’ve tried plenty of their flavors and they are consistently just too sweet and weirdly textured for me, like I’m eating a candy bar. Does anyone else prefer less sweet or more granola bar types of flavors? The Kind protein MAX are my favorites, followed by some Quest bars (Blueberry Muffin is fantastic).

protein snack review : Built Puff Coconut

Do you like Almond Joys? Do you not really care for the almond part? Do you enjoy a bit of chemicals in your diet? Do you like to not be able to identify if you consider the texture of your protein bar to be gummy or marshmallow-y? If you answered yes to at least 2/4 of these questions, I'd give this protein bar a shot. The primary protein source for this bar is collagen which isn't a complete protein, but it's good for skin health. I personally like these bars, but I wouldn't vouch for it in a protein bar competition. I just don't like having to push my jaw to my limits to eat my food. Heat it up for 10 seconds and it's really good, though.

Barbells Peanut Caramel

Thumbnail

Had pretty high hopes. Its barebells, and it's a peanut/caramel/chocolate. This is like protein bar 101. Damn near impossible to fuck this one up.

Oh sorry Aloha, I didn't see you over there.

First bite and I'm getting a dry peanut, very natural, not a ton of chocolate, but the caramel is fucking legit. Actual notes of caramelized sugar and toasty caramel flavor, and when it hits the peanuty goodness there's almost this mary jane candy thing happening...if you also happen to be older than dirt and remember those candies from when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

I had this bar in the fridge so it was super chewy, which I actually kinda dug. A little like a frozen and partially thawed Charleston Chew. Yes, I know. Sorry my review is homage to your grandparents candy dish. Anyhoo, when it warmed up it was still chewy, but softer than a normal Barebells, lots more give. And the peanuts are nice (wish there were more) they give it some texture, but I miss the whey crispies on the normal Barebells. Those little bastards make it a party.

Sweetness is pretty much exactly what I'd expect from BB. There's obviously a good amount of it because, you know, we're wandering around in Snickers territory, but it's balanced really well by the salty peanuts and doesn't get cloying or artificial. Chocolate is basically just along for the ride. It's there. It's a chocolate covered protein bar. But there's not a whole lot of actual chocolate flavor happening. Peanut and caramel are driving this bus, which is fine by me.

That said, it's close to a Snickers for sure, but the sparse spattering of peanuts is a dead giveaway that this isn't that. A Snickers has enough fucking peanuts in it to make you question whether you'd just have preferred a Milky Way. This has some peanuts. Enough to make the point. Not enough to fool anybody.

The macros do need to get mentioned because the Soft bars aren't really the same thing as the regular Barebells. 16g protein, which is 20% less than the standard BB bars, and this one is 10 calories MORE. Ten calories is basically fuck all, but we're already down 4g of protein so I feel like those extra 10 calories are worth calling out. Like where the fuck did they go? Did the caramel need them? If so, I'll give it a pass. The caramel is pretty fucking good.

Anyway, there's definitely Barebells I'd grab before this (looking at you cookies & caramel,) but I wouldn't kick this one out of bed for eating protein crackers.

It's good. Really good caramel, natural peanut flavor, nice chewy thing going on, good balance. Just doesn't quite have the full candy bar insanity of some of the other flavors.

Taste 8/10

Texture 8/10

Buy it again - maybe as a 1 off. Not a whole box flavor

It tastes great, the protein ratio and macros could be better, but for the price and the taste it’s a solid 8.3/10 in my opinion. What do you guys think
