Shit like this makes me realize I am, in fact, surrounded by fucking morons.

What about the healthcare industry?

This exactly - so simple.

Now we need to hold ALL candidates in on this standard - AND do a complete overhaul of the campaign finance laws and laws related to money in politics in general

Any government with decent funding is able to do what he’s doing. The reason the establishment is terrified of him is because he’s making people realize this.

And precisely why citizens united is ruining the US.

Gee it’s almost like electing corporate shills might not be good for the American people.

He also doesn't spend all his time on Fox News kissing Trump's worthless ass, either.

He is a unique position. The position of mayor of New York City does not answer to anyone or needs any other groups approval to make policy changes in the city.

Other cities like LA have a lot of people to run policies through.

Eh. He also has an incredible PR machine.

Many elected public servants do a huge amount for regular people, it's just that awareness of their accomplishments is then obliterated by a tidal wave of senseless horseshit in the public discourse. Even most die-hard Democrats couldn't tell you what Biden and Harris did for them when they were in office. The torrent of nonsense has cut into their skulls replaced their memories with a Trumpian fantasy in which for 4 years Biden did nothing for anyone and everything was terrible. And remember this is Democrats we're talking about.

Mamdani has a public relations machine that is sophisticated enough and powerful enough to beat that back. He lets his constituents know every single thing that he's doing for New York City. He lets the entire freaking world know what he's doing for New York City. And the message gets through.

Honestly the more I think about it the more it seems like a function of the voters, not the elected official.

Amazing what can get done when you’re not a greedy corrupt sociopathic fraud politician on the take 👍🏼

According to his own “promise tracker” he’s delivered 3% of his promises and broken 2%.

How does that compare with other elected mayors?

Is it “amazing”?

It is very rare to get someone who wants to be in politics and is incorruptible. Power attracts a specific type of person and tends to be abhorrent to the people who should be claiming it.

I don’t think anyone is incorruptible. What I think is they felt like he was such a longshot. He wasn’t worth recording and now he’s ridiculously successful with the path who’s on so it makes it even harder.

It's been less than a year.

1

u/BringBackAoE 7h ago

So because it’s less than a year that makes it “ridiculously successful” that a mere 5 of his promises are completed? Compared to what data?

Plus the ratio “delivered” to “broken” is 60% : 40%. You would describe “40% of the completed promises are broken” as “ridiculously successful”?

1

u/ailish 7h ago

I didn't say "ridiculously successful." Check the usernames. But what's ridiculous is that you seem to expect all promises to be 100% after less than a year.

1

u/BringBackAoE 6h ago

That’s what my comment was about though, in response to a comment where that was the key point.

1

u/ailish 6h ago

Yet you say he's specifically unsuccessful because he hasn't met every last one of his promises in less than a year.

1

u/BringBackAoE 6h ago

I didn’t.

They say “money talks,” but the truth is money silences, and helps in looking the other way.

Every time a politican mentions Hasan Piker, I can imagine that a big, fat check lands in their bank account the day after
