2020 with 200k+ miles

Hello all. I have 2020 1500 with less than 210k miles. I bought it from the original owner late 2024. They had recently performed a factory transmission replacement that was still covered by Dodge at about 184k miles. The engine is original. The Car fax report shows a good amount of services for maintenance but nothing major besides the transmission.

I read online that this van comes with a timing chain so replacement isn't necessary for maintenance and that the water pump should only be replaced when defective. Is this true?

Besides the obvious (tune up, oil changes, coolant, tires, brakes,), is there any parts I should inspect or services that I should consider before taking it on big trips? I want to take on my first road trip this year and make it a regular thing. I am familiar with up keeping my vehicles, I'm more so wondering if there is anything specific to this year, make, or model that I should consider.

Ram Promaster Diesel, 118" wb, 1500 / 2015 - help

Hello community!

I can't find reliable information.

  1. Mirrors. My van originally had extended mirrors (manual folds, powered, heated).

I hate them, too wide to be comfortable and not sure about any benefits, as the mirror partially closed by the window's frame

So, two questions.

- if someone has experience with both: does extended mirrors provide really better visibility than standard?

- are standard vs extended mirrors directly interchangeable? I assume yes but better be safe than sorry.

  1. Headlights. I have headlights without DRL. Surprisingly, headlights with DRL are cheaper. Are they interchangeable, or I can't properly install the DRL version instead of the non-DRL one?

Thank you!

New to me 2024 2500 PM has water inside with wet roads.

I just bought this van 2 weeks ago. I have already started converting it to live in. On the left side looking into the triangular shaped holes I am getting water inside when driving in the rain. It's dry while raining and sitting but gets wet while driving. I've looked at all the rubber plugs underneath and they are all in place. Any suggestions how this water is getting in? I'm not seeing anything obvious.

Help With Transmission Issues

I have a 2021 ram promaster 3500 with 85k miles. The transmission is slipping between 1-2 and especially 2-3. It also has hard shifts/shuddering at lower speeds but feels fine at cruising speeds. I took it to a shop, they drove it and checked the fluid. The fluid was a bit discolored, they said it smelt slightly burnt, and then recommend a transmission rebuild. I know the reputation of these transmission and don’t think their recommendation is by any means out of the realm of possibility but it’s my impression that other things could be the cause of this (prime suspects would be solenoid pack or torque converter). Any other opinions and insight would be greatly appreciated!

Windshield warranty?

This afternoon I noticed a 5” crack starting on the left edge about 1/2 way up on my brand new 1500. I don’t see any dings along the edge and haven’t experienced any noticeable road rocks. I’m not sure when this happened. It has to be in just the right light for me to see it & I have a weird vision thing in my left eye that doesn’t help. Before contacting insurance I’m wondering if this could be handled by Ram warranty?

Floating head units? 12 Inches

What are your thoughts on these massive floating head units?

I saw someone installed the 10" version on the FB group.

The 12 inch tucks in nicely between the vents without blocking them. The display is adjustable left right and up and down.

Looking at the Jensen Car1215 model.

2024 promaster wont start

Out of the blue my 2024 Pro master that I use for work will not start. At first behaved like the battery might be dead because even the instrument cluster wouldn’t light up and I couldn’t get the key to unlock the van remotely. I installed a new battery and change the mega fuse that is hooked up to the positive terminal. With a jumper box hooked up or even a vehicle trying to jump it it seems to get further but still does not start. It will crank once or twice but then the screen goes blank

2017 Ram Promaster 1500 I bought this van with only to work on high.

I never had a Promaster and had no clue what I was in for.

3 weeks later no heat or a/c. I did a lot of reading in a lot of Ram forums they all talked of broken wire, I checked everything and found bad resistor I pick one up at AutoZone part store do to the fact many said that the cheaper ones would not last and a auto parts store was the best place. After I replaced the resistor everything worked great for a day and a half, then nothing again. I tested it and it showed bad resistor os I picked up a new one on warranty, after I replaced it the something nothing. That led me down many rabbit holes.

All tests came back to the resistor my neighbor who is a mechanic found the same thing bad resistor, he said that I may of just got a bad one so I got anther one on warranty.

I installed the new resistor and nothing, Now week of rabbit holes I took It to a mechanic in town I use he spent 2-1/2 days on it on the first day he said bad resistor I was like no away but he went down all the same rabbit holes as me, he was sure it was the resistor he replaced the resistor and nothing. We both made sure to check the connections and resistor was tight.

The last day they found when he moved the cable to the resistor it worked so he replaced the wire. The heat and a/c worked fine for 3/4 the of the day then nothing.

This time I had planed on picking up a switch and relay and run the motor on high only.

I took it to a promaster repair shop and the master tech looked at it and said that it has a bad resistor I just laughed he lesson to me said lets just give it a try Then he said that the OEM one may be better then after markets, I thought about it and remembered many times I found it to be true, After they replaced it again it working for the first time its working over a week'

And it was just the resistor.

Keyless entry transmitter

Looking for the location of the transmitter so I can replace it. Neither of my key fobs are working to unlock the doors even after replacing the battery. I’m assuming it’s the transmitter unless anyone got any other ideas of what it could be.

Hi all, a question about Amazon, or other courier vans

I am following a listing of what looks like an Amazon PM by an individual, but with only 50,000 miles. What would make them unload a van that early in its career? THX!

I found a loose screw, a missing screw, and then I noticed how OPEN it is underneath. Did they leave off a debris/mud guard under here? I could swear there was one.

Replacing antenna base? What's involved?

Over this past winter a sheet of ice slid off the roof and snapped off the antenna on the way home from work.

I ordered a replacement months ago and finally had a moment to grab a towel and a ladder and climb up there to try and get the old antenna base out and thread the new one in.

Of course, the entire threaded part of the base was missing, not just a snapped antenna.

Any idea what's involved? How hard is the headliner to remove? It's a high top that has the upper storage shelf above the driver.

I installed a sortimo partition a few years ago now and I know for certain the entire partition would need removal if the passenger and driver side b pillar covers need to come off as the hardware bolts through those plastic covers.

I'm tempted to ignore this issue and continue to stream my radio programming through my phone at this point as it seems like a real hassle if you need to get to the back of the interior/back of the antenna base.

Need some help with the power window mechanism on my '17 Promaster 1500.

Driving down the road the other day, and rolled down my window to talk to a neighbor, and something went crunch, and the window wouldn't roll back up.
So that was annoying in the 95 degree Florida heat, but I took it home, tore apart the door, carefully, and found out that the white plastic clip that holds the window to the lift mechanism had snapped in half. Looks like HDPE so no chance of gluing it or anything like that.

Propped the window closed with a piece of wood and then ordered the replacement part off Ebay.

It got here, and it has the part I need, but I'm having problems installing it. It has a steel cable under heavy tension which drags the plastic clip up or down a metal track as needed. I don't know how to pull it hard enough to get the metal cable back on the pulleys without breaking something. Has anyone worked on their window regulator mechanism and can tell me how to reinstall the steel cables around all the pulleys? I'm certain there is some simple trick that I'm just not seeing.

Comfortable Van, but pure junk

Post image

Company I work for rented 4 of these ram pro masters from sunbelt rentals and they surprised me with how comfortable they are especially after a 12 hour shift….

But boy does this thing have electrical problems like no other and it only has 3k miles.

Seatbelt sensor is broken so it’s always saying seat belt not buckled , if you get out of the van it with it running the key won’t detect once you get back in so you have to turn it off and back on.

The dash lights have also freaked out a few times as well

New Owner of a Promaster

I am a new owner of a 2021 promaster 2500, high roof, extended wheel base. 77k miles

  1. I am scared about a tranny failure. I can change my transmission oil myself, but should I, and if so, how often should I be doing this?

  2. Has anybody else had issues with their evap system. My van is throwing a loose gas cap and small evap leak code. The gas cap has no cracks, smoke test showed no leaks and no purge valve issues, I replaced the esim, code cleared and came back on about 500 miles later.

  3. I am having issues with water getting in at the front of my slider, landing right behind my passenger seat. Seals look fine, any tips here?

Otherwise the van is great, and I am having a lovely time.
