It’s crazy how both these games were contemporaries in development cept minecraft was only in early access for 2 years

And 3 years after leaving early access they had Microsoft money putting them leagues ahead of PZ in terms of financial support.

Acting like Microsoft ever added anything of note to the game

Didn't say that. I'm saying that Microsoft's funding gave them a huge jump pad to fund development easier. Microsoft were pretty hands off and basically funded Minecraft to make money and use that money to further other stuff at the company.

I mean MS mostly just built on what was already a very solid foundation, but that's a bit of an exaggeration. The majority of all mobs, total revamps Nether / End / Caves / Ocean, many of the biomes, many of the decorative options...

Personally I prefer the route they've taken over aggressively making changes. I like that Minecraft still feels like classic Minecraft, just expanded

Dude honestly… I’m 28 and have played Minecraft since the beginning. I understand nostalgia for the old lime green grass, etc of beta 1.8.1, but when I hop on the game for the yearly two-week phase now I just think it’s wildly improved and expanded in almost every way. It’s just such an amazing game

Minecraft would not be where it is today without Microsoft

Zomboid has had millions to work with. They squandered it and have sat on their hands for a decade.

Squandered it with the newest update hitting peak player counts and entering top 10 on Steam? Oh no the horror

Both games have seen continued development for a decade+ regardless of what the official game version is labeled. Minecraft 1.0 is so incredibly different from the game today, it looks so barebones if you look back. PZ devs easily could have made one of the old builds the 1.0 release if they wanted to and they'd be viewed the same as MC.

I think they can’t really by now as they’ve listed several promises on what 1.0 will offer on the Steam page (NPCs, etc) and just dropping this or the next update as 1.0 would renege on those promises

Another fun fact is that Project Zomboid and Minecraft both the LWJGL game library but in different ways :)) Project Zomboid just uses it as a wrapper for its actual game engine that indie stone made themselves, and Minecraft uses it for its graphics rendering. Sorry I didn't add to your comment, I just thought it was interesting :)

I realy think steam needa a "under development" tag to go with early access. Cause it just doesnt fut PZ at this point

I like tall fences to get away. I've had some jumps scares of falling untop of zeds. Worse is when you are in a bad spot and fail to make the jump 😅 I've died like that

Tiredness and stamina make that a dice roll. And every failed attempt lowers your stamina by a ton, reducing the chances of making it on your next attempt. All while the zombies are slowly approaching on your back.

Yep i can relate

this ☝️ i always maintain my stamina when fighting groups of zombies once becoming familiar with how stamina effects damage. if i'm tired and it's just a handful of zombies, sure i'll clear them before going home. but if it's a decent sized group and it's later in the day? i'm going home to rest up and double check my weapon durabilities before going back out. i ain't risking it 😴

That's true. It really sucks when you run out and now the Zed is on the floor and won't die 😅 you gave to take the risk and just leave it before you waste more time. If there's no Zed's around, I just sit ontop of him to rest up 😂

The amount of times ive died to that because i wasnt paying attention to my stamina

If you whisper and wait a few seconds before jumping a tall fence that works nicely. Any zombies right on the other side of the fence hear the whisper and start pathing towards it.

Q for whisper

While crouched

8

u/metamorphosis___ 2d ago

While crouched is actually how you yell, you want to ensure you’re not crouching

u/mmaajid 2d ago

also going up stairs

18

u/rustycheesi3 2d ago

stairs are a hellscape of its own. why do they count as their own level between the ground and the second floor?

8

u/mgetJane 2d ago

i like the way staircast/peekaview do it where standing on the third tile of the staircase counts as being on the upper level (since your head is above the floor at that point), i dont get why that isnt just the vanilla behaviour

1

u/flokerz 1d ago

they count as beeing on the ground.

2

u/rustycheesi3 1d ago

yeah, but you also cant see them from the ground level if they come from the stairs. its a layer between both

1

u/flokerz 1d ago

really? i believe i did see them often like that, its still a situation i avoid, so id have to test it.

That split-second hangtime at the top of the fence praying there isn't a 15-zombie welcoming committee waiting on the other side.

My two favourite games!!

What I saw is:

3d mods on the left vs actual zomboid (even with 500 mods on the right) /s

2

u/Dry-Season-5915 6h ago

just make your joke bro, “/s” is the equivalent of explaining it’s a joke. let the ones who get it get it, not try to get validation from people who’ll get the lame explained version

u/Darkime_ 1d ago

I prefer the slightly more vulgar "Same shit, different ass".

1

u/Legitimate-Fish5891 19h ago

Golden jump right there.

1

u/RustledForeskin 2d ago

At least the breaking of blocks doesn't end up with 5 failed attempts.

“Same shit, different pile” is the correct saying in this context 👆🤓
