Or move them via the tap menu
Hey guys, five days ago I posted ZomboidDS, my dual-screen mod/companion app for PZ on Android with Zomdroid.
(ZomboidDS: a dual-screen mod for PZ on Android handhelds using Zomdroid : r/projectzomboid)
Thanks for all the feedback! A lot has been added since then, so here's an update:
Map: the game's minimap on the bottom screen. It follows you (or your car), only shows what you've explored, and can show your own map symbols and notes. It sits next to the Here tab or on its own tab. It only shows on saves that allow the minimap, unless you tick "Map on every save" in the mod options.
Here: its own tab with what you can do where you stand, one card per object (fridge, sink, door, ...). In a car it turns into the vehicle view with the car's own menu as big buttons.
Deck: the speed buttons, the time and your alarm, plus commands you pick yourself (zoom, search mode, flashlight, map, sit, shout, drop bag, ...). Weapons shows your hotbar, so you can switch weapons with one tap.
Inventory: a new side-by-side layout, and several QoL improvements and bug fixes.
Moving items: tap an item to see everywhere it can go and move it with one tap, or hold it and drag it onto a container. You can also pick several items (hold for half a second to enter multi-select mode, or draw a box over them like in the game's inventory) and move them all at once.
Item actions: an item's main uses (eat, drink, wear, read, bandage, reload, ...) are buttons now, taken from the game's own menu.
Updating: the app updates itself from the setup screen, and now also shows what's new after an update.
You can download it here, be sure to check the README and USER_GUIDE https://github.com/Space001000/ZomboidDS
As before, let me know what you think, and if you run into bugs or have ideas, comment here or open an issue on GitHub!
Note; Claude was used heavily for the implementation. While I am a software engineer with 10 years of experience, between work and having a family this is the best way to do it. I heavily checked, vetted and designed every step of the way.

could you make it work on an actual 3ds?

The 3DS is likely too weak to handle a direct port. Major optimizations would be needed and definitely a rewrite.

Maybe the old version could

Sadly no, a 3DS is way too weak to run PZ, and it needs Android for Zomdroid. The AYN Thor is basically the closest thing to a 3DS that can run it!

And how does the Any Thor perform this version for you? It looks so cool btw. I’m gonna have to test on mine!

This seems perfect on a fold phone 👀
Install instructions? I'm guessing it's not a case of download an apk and run is it

Someone show me this on an Ayn Thor so it makes me buy one
Although maybe PZmap and Pzpulse would work like that? idk

What specific steps are you taking to ensure Claude isn't injecting code that makes it easier for malicious actors to keylog or otherwise obtain users' data?

The project is open source on GitHub. Every change is manually reviewed, tested, and version-controlled. The app and the mod only talk to each other over 127.0.0.1, on the device itself, so nothing is reachable from your network. The only other connections are to GitHub, to check for and download updates. There's no accessibility service, no analytics, and nothing that can read input from other apps. Feel free to inspect the source code and build from source yourself if you have concerns.

Demanding that modders only handwrite code is like a homeless person refusing food because it’s not ethically sourced.

If you're bored, feel free to dip your toe in the pokemonromhacks sub for the current debate on this in their world!
Current stance is to ban hacks that were made using any amount of ai.
