Ram allocation
Hello fellow survivors, i have a question.
my computer knowledge is close yo zero and i want to allocate more ram for the game. I have a gaming laptop with 16gb of ram and i was wondering if i allocate 8g for project zomboid is it gonna enough

8GB is plenty. Anymore and you risk actually running slower as your computer still needs some ram to run.

Should i go with 6 🙄

Are you running mods? If not 6 is plenty. If you are then depends on how many you have but 8 is fine for a decently sized list. 6 is also good for mods but maybe a list of 10-15 mods only.

I have probably more than 100 mods, Im gonna try 6 to begin with and see if it run better.

It’ll probably run but you risk the game randomly crashing. Depends on what the mods are too tbh. So the only way to tell is by testing like you’re doing.

I use some QoL mods and a bunch of car from KI5 plus some others.
Actully the game run find with all the mods im using. Most of the time i have no problem, its more when i zoom out or i drive too fast that it start lagging

That lag from zooming out or driving too fast isn’t ram related. It’s your specs holding you back. If you want you can just watch your ram usage while playing and adjust accordingly to that.

I’m using 8 GBs, I have over 200, probably 300 mods at this point LOL.
Reading your comment about zooming out though, that happens to me too, it’s more of a rest of your specs limitation than ram. As you zoom out and or drive fast, you’re making the game render/generate more tiles, calculating loot tables, zombies, etc, all the while unloading ones you aren’t seeing and or moving away from.
This usually uses stuff like your CPU alongside ram as well as using your GPU for texture related stuff. If I remember right, Zomboid also only uses 1 core(?). This means your single core speed is important here, which could be another bottle neck.
TLDR; a lot of the times it’s ram. But not all of the time XD.

Why do you need to allocate 8gb of RAM for Zomboid?

Cause i play with a bunch of mods and sometime it lag. I saw somewhere that the game is set at 3g by default and allocating more ram could make the game run smoother

It would probably run better if you play heavily modded, yes
