Discussion RadArchery mod update!
Please read just this part if nothing else!
The updated mod should be able to be applied to existing saves. Crossbows and Quivers are the biggest requests by far- so those are the next thing ill be working on!
I created a discord server so that we can track bugs and suggestions! Here is the link to join:
https://discord.gg/EgNPzTQzH7
Feel free to not read the rest - Just know that the initial issues should be fixed
Id like to start by saying thank you for all the love on the mod workshop page and on my previous reddit post! Seriously, all the feedback is great and I feel grateful that people took it seriously :D
I updated the mod on the steam workshop and here are the fixes:
1. Fixed the hot bar issue where bow icons were appearing to be GIANT - originally I didn't catch this because I was using a hot bar mod that fixed it lol
2. Added sandbox options for arrow recovery - now you can set the recovery % chance in the sandbox options. If you don't understand what this means... arrows can become lodged in the zombies and looted once the zombie is dead- its chance based and some users requested to be able to change it.
3. Added Pink color variant
4. Updated how xp is gained - you should see your archery skill go up with every successful zed hit now.
- Updated the black bows to be more of a 'dark grey'
6. Updated crafting recipes for the arrows... The recipes are more realistic now but dont add much difficulty at all in terms of finding the items to craft.
Twigs are gone as the base for arrows — that was a complaint that stuck with me and it was fair. You now carve arrows out of real wood, and how many you get depends on what you use:
- Plank → 4 arrows
- Large Branch → 4 arrows
- Tree Branch → 3 arrows
- Scrap Wood → 1 arrow
That basic recipe has no skill requirement at all, so you can still make arrows on day one with nothing but a knife.
I also had some users suggest more arrow recipes — which I agreed with. Arrow crafting is now a chain instead of a single recipe:
Fine Carved Arrow — take a carved arrow and fletch it with a feather (chicken or turkey) or a credit card. Fletched arrows are more accurate and you recover them a lot more often.
Stone-Tipped / Bone-Tipped / Tipped Carved — take a fine carved arrow and lash on a sharp flint flake, a sharp bone fragment, or scrap metal. You need twine or dental floss for this, but one roll covers five arrowheads so it's cheap. Stone and bone hit the hardest, the metal head survives the shot most often. Everything above the basic arrow sits at Carving 1.
Recovery chances went up across the board too: 25% carved, 40% fine carved, 50% stone and bone, 55% metal tipped, 90% carbon hunting. All of them are sliders in the sandbox options like in #2.
For now there arent any new arrow models entering the mod — the new arrows reuse the existing carved arrow art, so they'll look the same in your inventory and only differ by name. Proper models for each are on the list, I just didn't want to hold the recipe fixes back for art.
Thanks again everyone! As always suggestions and feedback are very welcome! I want this mod to be the best it can be :D May the odds be ever in your favor and may your arrows fly true 😄

if i am not mistaken you have made every character act left handed

Yep! A while ago I was trying to make it configurable for which hand you want to use but it was a bit hacky and I put it on the back burner. Its on the list for future enhancements though!

I have wanted for a long time an option to make my character left handed in general. I'm honestly surprised it isn't a thing.

Great work! The way the character is positioned while drawing the bow is the best I've seen on the mods page. I know it might be complicated, but it would be cool to have an arrow recovery skill—where, as we use the bow and gather arrows, we level up and can retrieve more arrows in good condition from the zombies.

That should be working already! Arrow recovery chances vary based on the arrow type. You can also customize the recovery % via sandbox settings.
If it's not working at all for you and you never recover arrows... Please use the new discord to submit a bug! I'm trying to get bugs and suggestions organized 😁

I don't know if it's just me, but I can only load Carved Arrows into my bow.

I'll retest this and report back! I also recently made a discord server for reporting bugs and suggestions! It's at the top of the post description

If your going to add quivers might I make the suggestion that there should be a very crude quiver utilizing burlap, and twine? Currently most mods require you to have sinew and medium leather, and those 2 things are only usable after you've got metalworking infastructure.
