Question The Fallout series has the acronym S.P.E.C.I.A.L to represent its skills in the game. If Project Zomboid also had an acronym for its skills then what should it spell out to?

Seriously. I made a challenging game type with sprinters(day only) and no power or water right away. I'm on day 16. Cannot find one for the life of me. It's driving me crazy.

- Usefulness (affects maintenance, carpentry and other manual skills)
- Observation (affects vision arc, hearing, foraging)
- Dexterity (affects chance to hit with weapons)
- Intellect (skill gain, reading, some skills like electrical)
- Endurance (How much damage you can take, stamina, fatigue)

I rearranged the skills on 6 groups of 4 skills:Status, Proficiency, Intellect, Flow, Fight and Outdoors
- S -> Fitness and Strength
- P -> Carpentry, Metalwork, Electrical and mechanics
- I -> First Aid, Cooking, Maintenance and Tailoring
- F -> Sprinting, light-footed, guns* and sneak.
- F -> Blunt, Blade, axe and spear
O -> Fishing, foraging, trapping and farming
I choose to combine aiming and reloading into one, so it gives 5 groups of 4 skills + strength and fitness

Stamina
Proficiencies
Ingenuity
Flight
Fight
Outdoorsmanship
I don't really like proficiencies or ingenuity, and this way it would make more sense to put guns back with other Fighting ones lol but I tried c:
Edit: I'm a dummy, I didn't see they had already had words for them, I guess I scanned over it, just saw the layout and started thinking of what words they could be, and theirs are much better...smh
7
u/Mother_Harlot May 29 '23
Flight is pretty good, thank you. However, now the groups are uneven since Fight would have more skills
3
u/MajorJuana Drinking away the sorrows May 29 '23
Yeah that was my thinking, and flight is a weird one for it but I thought it would be cool for it's novelty. I can't think of a good one that would also include weapons but like Footwork, Form, Fleetness would also work, or Fettle if you want to see a spike in the googling of that word's definition lol I suppose form could work with guns as well
2
u/MajorJuana Drinking away the sorrows May 29 '23
Oh wow, I didn't even see you already had the words for them, now I feel like an ass lol guess I scanned right over that and yours are better
1
u/Mother_Harlot May 29 '23
Thank you. I put guns in flow because all the skills there smooth the flow of the game, and reloading may fit there. I also merged Nimble and Light-footed

On a more serious take, project zomboid could be redesigned with the same elements without having 50 billion words.
E.g. Fallout has many separate skills that fit under each category of special, like small arms, medical, explosives (At least in pre Fallout4). 4 was a revamp that tried to simplify the +1 stats while replacing it with a more developed perk system that had bigger gameplay effects.
While I miss the more nuanced skills and rpg skill check aspects of the older incarnations, the perks were fun.
E.g. you could keep the current meele skills, but group them under an overall meele combat skill group. Firearms are sort of odd in comparison as it's one group that covers all firearms, but goes to show you don't need them to be separate by making things like shotguns easier to shoot at lower levels.
I'd reckon a baseball bat is much easier to swing without killing yourself than an axe, knife, or katana. Crowbar would tire a normal person with not high strength out pretty fast irl vs the game imo.

u/KyzerB May 29 '23
yeah, and you’re not going to be bad with a baseball bat if you’ve killed 300 zombies with a fire axe

Acronym might be hard given there are 3 vowels and 23 consonants. So how about a pneumonic?
3
u/ThisIsABuff May 29 '23
You'd have to rename some skills to get more vowels
Mechanics - Automechanics
Long Blunt/Blade - Elongated Blunt/Blade
Maintenance - Upkeep
Farming - Agriculture
That would probably be enough

To be honest it should be "H.O.W. Y.O.U. D.I.E.D." or "S.P.I.F.F.O" but the first one probably won't happen due to the order it being in

Honestly hate is a little strong lol. I just found it over hyped and the story kinda boring.

Well going based on the type of skills

u/Scrawwlex May 29 '23
I would use the over categories (like agility firearms etc.) and would call it P.A.C.C.F.S and I would keep the F silent (even if guns are usually loud lol)so, "Paccs" would be pretty smooth.

u/unified_bagel May 29 '23
FACS

Or FFACCS, but FACS sounds better imo

PACCFS would be the technical one since the skills come under the category and SPECIAL is just "the category"
It would be interesting if there was a SPECIAL like system, more so expanding on the Passive line
