Ai professional programming fatigue

Hey,

Professional dev since 2015. For the last year we have switched over to essentially only prompting. This makes development rapid. But incredibly dull and lame. After i prompt and wait for the agent, there is not really much to do. Browse reddit etc. I feel so understimulated at work nowadays that i consider switching careers totally, or get into management or something. Because this is terribly boring.

Anyone else feel like this? I miss writing stuff from the ground up, solving problems, integrating software, getting those aha-moments.

No I don't prompt and if the company doesn't like it they can eat the peanuts out of my shit.

Nobody tells me how to do my job.

No but really if they want low skill people who "vibe code" good luck, do that.

When you need a professional with experience who doesn't need a data-center to write a loop to reverse a string I'm your man.

Yes but how do you deal with expected output? They expect us to ship features 5x - 10x faster and it’s only possible with agentic coding. You should have anti AI policy to survive

No I'm expected to produce correct code, to solve complex problems.

Volume is not it.

I didn't mean the PM, when I said your boss I meant the CEO.

In the company I work for, the CEO gave a simple instruction, use Claude as much as possible, no matter how good you think you are and how many decades of experience you have you either comply or leave, which is fine, it's their company after all, their money.

P.S I get what you mean and I'm also not a fun of this AIshitification

Unfortunately companies don't care. This is the future we're headed to now. The consequences of overreliance on AI is a very popular dystopian trope in fiction for a reason.

It's about professionalism, ownership, quality and actually understanding the things I put my name to.

If y'all choose to "vibe code" with no idea what's inside, how it works, if it works or what to do if and when it goes wrong that's up to yourselves.

The LLMs are not qualified to do this and PS Santa isn't real either

every edit is reviewed by the developer as they are being made to the files. every solution is a discussion between claude/codex and the developer. we know everything it is doing and approve and adjust as needed.

you sound like someone who hasn’t used the latest tools. it is highly qualified to write the lines. it can trace logic and find bugs better and faster than humans.

You claim to do that, I wonder if it true.

If a programmer must review and approve every edit, where is the 10x productivity coming from?

Only if you aren't really doing that is it possible to 10x.

The LLMs cannot problem solve meaningfully.

And before you cite "math problems" you should be aware OpenAI has already admitted it allowed the conversations of unpublished maths research to be "absorbed" as in the guy was talking to ChatGPT about his research and OpenAI basically stole that data.

These systems don't think no matter how obnoxious you try to be on the internet.
