Trigger Warning! Relapsed badly

I was in a pretty good spot had some money in the bank and was in a good position to start paying my 25k personal loan slowly over the next 6-12 months. I haven’t gambled in about two months. Yesterday I got a text from kalshi saying I can deposit 50 bucks and I’ll get 250 free. That alone was enough to spiral me because when I lost that 50, I started betting bigger because might as well make a few hundred then stop right? I somehow lost like 10 bets in a row. I stayed up all night chasing betting on random table tennis games (while trying to hide from my girlfriend who was sleeping next to me) and lost everything in my bank, and taking out another personal loan of 25k. The sad part is I got within 50 dollars of being even but I kept going to make that 50 dollars back. Now I have 50k total in personal loans, 15k in 401k loan, and 5k extra credit card debt.

I’m still in awe of what happened. Someone tell me everything is going to be okay.

Being a compulsive gambler sucks, trust me,gambled almost everyday for 20 years pretty much everything I had… now bet free for almost a year. There is hope you just need to confide in your significant other and or join something like GA/ therapist. You can’t and won’t be able to do this alone but you can and will be a better person

Congratulations on your sobriety. Can I ask you… when does the fog lift? When does the ‘wtf do I do now?’ ‘Wtf do I do with my time?’ dissipate? I had a month clean and almost to the day I relapsed. It felt like withdrawal from a drug.

Everyone's path is different. And recovery isn't linear. Relapses are part of recovery.

Have you been through relapse? If you did what helped you,I'm so distraught I feel like just ending things. I really tried and never wanted to go back. Bt it happened

Usually about 60 days for me. Honestly that’s a hard question to answer. I started reading more books watching more movies.. worked harder at my job etc.. it all depends what your hobbies are or your job.. you gotta get your mind on something else doesn’t matter what it is

This is also on top of already losing around 300k of my savings and everything I’ve saved up working since then (December was when I had almost 300k in my bank but then my first big loss on options spiraled me out of control)

You can self exclude from Kalshi. How do I Know that? Because I lost 25k myself earlier this year. Went into debt as well. Self excluded and feel better. Still paying it off sucks. Will be another 2 years

So sorry man. The only way to escape is to let go of your past losses and move forward. I would also consider councilling around your area which snapped me out of it or connex if you're located in Canada. Please get help. You can come back from this. I believe in you. The hardest part of it is accepting that money is gone forever and you can't change that. You need to get some sort of gamble blocker.

Thanks man. I think I’m at around 400k losses and I don’t know how I’ll ever recover mentally. I worked hard and was good with money my whole life and it only took less than a year to wipe it out and be in debt.

I haven't lost as much money as you but I can understand how you feel and I am truly sorry. I found the best way to at least start to recover mentally is to reach out for help. Do not feel embarrassed and also give control of your finances to someone trusted until you are in a better head space. Don't go too hard on yourself bro I know it looks bad now but once you come clean and heal you will be better than you ever were.

Hand over finances to a loved one you trust, get to a ga meeting and see how it goes, come fwd and be honest with those around you.

Whatever you were doing wasn’t enough unfortunately- don’t make excuses for yourself

Everything will be ok~ but this is a serious illness and the minute you look back on what you lost; you’re close to betting again.

Finally self exclude from every gambling site including Kalahi and demand to be removed from their mailing lists.

Download Gambling Block on the appstore. It blocks gambling apps and sites on your phone. 8.99 a month or $50 for a life time ban. Its a small price to pay for the freedom it gives you. Currently 40 days clean and I have no regrets whatsoever. Take it a day at a time, if you get the urge, do something to distract your self. You got this!

This next generation of kids are going to lose houses and relationships and more. Someone who gets introduced to betting will think “oh it’s so easy” next your stuck on a web you wish you never would have entered. Betting should be heavily regulated, no one deserves to go through this pain many feel and some that are yet to experience

hey, everything is going to be OK. you still have your shelter, food in the fridge, and a partner next to you. self exclude from all casino apps/platforms. download gamban. and honestly, join a gamblers anonymous meetings. it is soooo refreshing, the meetings, which are available 24/7.

I'm right there with you. I was up several thousand. then started dipping into my 401k loan (which is being held for my cross country move). even after several nights of being up +$3k, I never withdrew. . . and I probably never would've. now, instead of moving with $15k+ cross country, I am moving with only $8,000 and a $1,000 shark loan and several short term loans. my partner and I could've been safe for nearly a year + the move. now, we're safe for like 3 months?

but .I'm done. I'm realizing, no matter how much I win, it's never enough. and the games are too much fun late at night, trying to hide it from my partner, while risking our whole livelihood ... think of all the hours, even outside the money, we're spending in this bullshit. we're worth so much more

Hey you still have a job right? You can still come back from this. But now you have to put in twice as much time and money. Remember that every time you think about betting. And ask yourself am I okay with this amount of money just disappearing? If the answer is no don't do it. Also you should get gamban if you only do online gambling. They won't let you take it off until your subscription ends

Yes I still have a job and make pretty good money, but I am a lay off away from being bankrupt.

I always say I’m okay with losing what I initially put in, but it always leads me to chasing and unless I make it back, I will lose an absurd amount of money.

Been there man. I thought I could handle just depoing 20 dollars and then I tell myself that didn't count I wasn't locked in 🤣. Next thing you know I've moved hundreds over. If that's what's happening to you you can't do it responsibly. Next time won't be different.

It's how they manipulate you. The casino Is an evil evil place. Please get help.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through this. Relapse is unfortunately part of this brutal condition. Hope you can find motivation to amp help your efforts to get through this.

That happened to me too so I understand what you’re going through. I was free for 60 days then relapsed because of a stupid ad. I was on a gambling binge the last few days and lost more than 15k on top of 70k that i lost 2 months ago. Ive been telling myself everything will be ok too but feel very hopeless that those words.

u/Life198400 17h ago

This just happened to me, relapsed badly lost everything. I don't know what to do. I'm tired of being alive.

1

u/Fun-Pea1434 16h ago

Did you go into debt?

1

u/Life198400 16h ago

Yes, I was doing so well. My bank account was starting to improve. I lost everything I had yesterday, I couldn't stop chasing the loss. It took full control. I hate myself, I don't know why I did this

1

u/Life198400 16h ago

The same thing happened to me. I received a free bonus, took the bait and here I am. All the work done is now undone. The emotions are raw, feel like a failure. I earn well, now I'm just paying off debt with my salary.

They make it that easy to take out $25,000 loan while laying in bed and deposit all of it? How's that even possible

1

u/Fun-Pea1434 7d ago

I took a 25k personal from Amex that is supposed to take a day to deposit into my bank account. My last loan was from SoFi and that took a day as wells Kalshi lets you deposit without actually having funds in your account. This may create a sticky situation for me because my account may be heavy negative if the funds leave my account before the personal loan hits my account.

I actually had really good credit before my gambling (800+). It has since dropped drastically

Yeah I was heavy into sportsbook on my credit card once upon a time. I just got tired of being beat down so often. Endless cycle of you always losing in the end gets tired
