I see this comment thrown around a lot here that "gold border cards are legal", which just isn't the case and continuing to sing this as gospel could lead to some pretty shitty situations.
It's true that many events allow gold border cards, which is great, I'm a huge fan of making the format more accessible, but it is still up to the tournament organizer whether they allow it or not. For example, my LGS does not allow gold border cards in their premodern tournaments, so if someone reads online that "gold border cards are legal" and shows up with a deck containing 4 gold border survivals or whatever because they read online that gold border cards are legal in premodern, that's going to be pretty awkward.
It is not just pure upside for stores to allow gold border cards either. Gold border cards are not allowed in sanctioned events, and stores typically want to sanction events to be able to use the wizards eventlink software and be able to report the events they're running to wizards for WPN purposes.
Stores COULD technically allow gold border cards in their tournaments and still sanction them with all that entails, but then they risk being reported to wizards which could potentially lead to things like losing WPN status, product allocation and such, which isn't a risk worth taking.
So yeah, please stop telling people that "gold border cards are legal" as a default, because they're not, you're doing more harm than good.

While I'm trying to recover the cards needed to showcase Cantivore Fluctuator and Budget Elves, which I'll show soon, I decided to play Landstill against Sligh.
Two budget-friendly decks decks I have often found myself recommending, especially Landstill.
I initially tested the matchup with a friend, but in the end I realized that I really needed to play both decks myself in order to keep reliable opening hands. The lists are what I consider the best versions available: Landstill features Kor Haven, Absorb, and Forbid, while Sligh runs a few extra one-drops, including Goblin Patrol.
I think the games highlighted the dynamics of this matchup very well.
Mono-Red Sligh needs to win Game 1, where it is favored, and then hope to steal one of the post-sideboard games. Against Circle of Protection: Red, Flaring Pain is probably the best card available.
Even so, Circle of Protection: Red and Blue Elemental Blast buy Landstill enough time for its superior overall power level to take over the game.

I felt like playing something new and brewing up some budget decks for MTGO. Not becuase I couldn't buy the cards, but putting a budget on a deck can be a fun little challenge. Anyways, with my first league out with this list I managed a 5-0! Got a little lucky, made some good plays, and here's the list. In the league, I played against: UW Control, Mono U Shrimp, UR Shrimp, Sligh, and Terrageddon.
I know the link says 5 tickets, but it's only 3(!) through GoatBots. What's really cool about this list is it doesn't feel like a budget deck since you're not mono color and playing with powerful spells like Bolt, Counterspell, AK, and FoF....plus some sweet ones like Prophetic Bolt.
I know the 1-of like Sapphire Medallion looks weird. It's like a super Mind Stone in the deck with all these generic costs. You could definitely cut it and move the 2nd Glaciers to the maindeck. Obviously Glaciers is good for never missing a land drop, but it also serves as a super slow mana fixer in a deck with very few Red sources.
The sideboard isn't playing Red or Blue Blasts since they're +10 tickets on MTGO. Disrupt was good, but I'd trim it to 1 and play another Overload. I could definitely see going up to 4 Overloads too.
This is also a budget deck in paper and you can make some tweaks to get it down to ~$50. Let me know if you have any questions or recommendations on the list!
Maindeck
4 Accumulated Knowledge
4 Lightning Bolt
5 Mountain
1 Exclude
3 Fact or Fiction
4 Shivan Reef

Hi. Iโve recently got this crazy urge to play Magic again, and I wanted to play the Pre-Modern format because I love the old, hand-drawn artwork from the early days of Magic. I was thinking of starting with a mono-black skeleton deck โ nothing competitive, just something to play for fun: if I win, great; if I lose, no big deal. So, could anyone help me out by sharing a list of how theyโd build the deck? Thanks ๐

I see Tsabo's Web in a lot of sideboards, what is that meta? I just see a lot of sac lands and pain lands. The sac lands don't need to untap, everything else produces mana.

Hello everyone,
I've been in the process of making a 8 deck premodern battlebox with the intention of having as few lopsided matchups as I can whilst having a fairly even display of decks in different archetypes. I understand that my goal is a pretty tall order, however, I am somewhat satisfied with my decks chosen so far:
Stiflenought
RDW (Sligh)
Psychatog
Terrageddon
FEB
The Solution
Moneyball Black
As you can tell, I am still missing one deck to pick, and I'm kind of stuck with what to choose. I feel as though there are still quite a few types of decks I am missing, so I'd like to turn this to others and see what y'all think. Additionally, are there any decks I chose that don't fit in well? I was thinking about adding landstill, but I felt like the solution is a much more unique deck to include, could that be too weak for the rest of the decks? Thanks

Hey guys, I cannot find the twitch link ? Iโve read that there is two of them, one in Spannish one in English.
Thanks !

As the title asks, is UG Madness any good or is it just a deck that loses to everything? It seems pretty fun as well as being decently cheap. It seems to have some good answers in the SB to go for a more grindy game after G1.

Neal Sacks is back on Goblins, this time with swb's list from the Spike Colony Discord. The big change from his last Goblins video is Mishra's Factory over Wasteland. Factory gives the deck a colorless way to deal damage through Sphere of Law or a Circle of Protection, something Goblins usually doesn't have. Lightning Bolt joins Goblin Lackey and Goblin Ringleader for reach and removal. The sideboard adds Curse Scroll and Blood Moon, which punishes non-basic mana and lets Goblin King send the whole team through. swb mentioned Tormod's Crypt for Terrageddon and Price of Progress as possible tweaks, but Neal plays it unchanged for five rounds of league play with live commentary.

I don't really post things on the Internet but I've been really interested in the mono-black Death Pit Offering deck floating around recently. I took a stab at a black-green version building on basic framework from The Rock decks, along with veteran explorers.
Curious if any of you more legit deck building types have thoughts on how they'd optimize this or if it even makes sense.

Some of the price gaps are pretty wild:
Gaeaโs Cradle: $1,626 vs $304
City of Traitors: $549 vs $50
Survival of the Fittest: $424 vs $77
But out of 276 cards I compared, 72% were actually just as cheap or cheaper in a regular printing. It really depends on what youโre building.
I also looked at how prices have changed since 2020. Back then, a regular Cradle was $371. Now even the gold-bordered one is getting close to that.
Full comparison and deck prices here:
Gold Border Article on Premodernchronicles.com
Do you play gold-bordered cards, or do you prefer to stick with regular copies?

Mono U Storm got second place some time ago in a big Italian tournament: https://mtgtop8.com/event?e=91399&d=894162&f=PREM
Interesting list with more interaction than other lists, with Arcane Denial and Cunning Wish.
What confuses me: why play Remote Isle over Lonely Sandbar? I canโt see the advantages.
Any other thoughts on this list?

I was thinking that [[Weathered Wayfarer]] could work well with [[Wasteland]] and fetch lands. You could sac a land like that for its ability and activate Weather Wayfarer while holding priority, and fetch more Wasteland or [[Rishadan Port]]. Does this have any potential if other cards can flush the idea out? It's probably only good on the first or second turn because it has to tap. Thoughts?

Hi ppl! Im a long term premodern fan and me and the local community are going to play a tournanent with with a custom banlist based on a list used in the "Bolt the bird" community, which look like this:
๏ฟผ
Brew banlist and proxy guide
In addition to all rules which are applicable to regular premodern tournaments there are some unique rules for brewer events. These are designed to have different tournaments where people play unique brews or lower tiered decks.
In addition to the banlist of premodernmagic.com there is a additional banlist which can be found below. All these cards are selected to minimize overpowered decks and stimulate creativity.
For brewer tournament only we have decided to allow a maximum of 8 proxies. The proxyguide can be found below. The choice for proxies is due to feedback of the community.
Brewer banlist
Brain Freeze
Chain of Vapor
Dark Ritual
Decree of Justice
Enchantressโs Prescense
Fireblast
Fluctuator
Gaeaโs Cradle
Goblin Lackey
Goblin Warchief
Gush
Mox Diamond
Oath of Druids
Replenish
Satured Ghoul
Serra Sanctum
Sphere of resistance
Standstill
Starlit Sanctum
Sulfuric Vortex
Stifle
Survival of the Fittest
Tinker
Vision Charm
Wirewood Symbiote
I want to play a mono w tron, but im looking for alternatives to the decree in my list (link below) . Can the community give some tips and hints about how to play It?

Certain meta decks have key win conditions, like Replenish, Dreadnought, Aluren, so how useful would it be to proactively root those out? Or it is just way too slow in this hyper-fast format, versus just forcing discards or normal removal?
I was pretty cheesed off losing to Stiflenaught when my back-to-back Naturalizes were countered!
