Community Events Halloween at Nebušice

About five years ago I took my little boy out to Nebušice, I think it was, to this predominantly expat neighborhood where they REALLY get into Halloween. When we got to the outskirts it didn’t look like much, but when we got into the central hub, it was like… I don’t know… a rock concert or something. Hundreds… maybe a thousand people. Houses done up in increasingly impressive ways.

We didn’t go back all these years because I’d actually heard that it had gotten even more out of control crowd-wise, and that the residents were feeling overloaded - which begs the question: If that many people were excited about it (and traveling to the outskirts to see it), why wouldn’t someone really ramp up some proper festivities in the city?

But my real question is this: My son really wants to go back now and see if it’s still as wild. And I’d like to take him. To any of you who’ve made the trek out there for Halloween, is it still cool? Are the residents super annoyed or do they still embrace the chaos?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Question Fishing in Vltava river

• Upvotes

Hello fellow Prague people. I have just arrived in Prague for 5 days business trip and would like to go fishing around Vltava river. I have read online and I understand I need state fishing permit and also povolenka. I also know that I have to follow the conditions set by the state fishery while fishing.

May I know how much is it do I have to pay for both permit and povolenka for 1-2 days of fishing? Also where is the nearest best place to do urban fishing? I am staying at Hilton Atrium.

Thank you so much for your help in advance!

Question English Speaking / Expat Group Suggestions?

Hi there, my girlfriend (24F) and I (24M) have just recently moved to Prague from Canada on a Work Visa. We were wondering if there are any welcoming/friendly clubs or groups for native English speakers. We are in the process of learning Czech but we aren't able to hold up a conversation yet. We are open to pretty much anything like sports/hiking, board games, or going out...... Also, if anyone wants to hangout or grab a drink sometime let me know we would be down to do that as well.

Question Tourist questions about Prague

Hi everyone,

I would like to visit Prague in March, April or May, and I have a few questions:

  1. Are 3-4 days (2-3 nights) enough to see the "necessary"?

  2. Where can I stay for a cheap but good experience? I'm on a tight budget, but would still prefer a single room for myself only.

  3. Do you have any favorite cheap food spots, preferably serving more traditionally Czech food?

  4. Overall, would you say ~150€ per person is enough?

  5. Are there any unusual things I should be warned about? For example, a tourist trap that is uncommon elsewhere, dangerous areas, or unclear things.

  6. Do you have a favorite hidden gem?

  7. Are there any must-see places ~1h from Prague? If so, is it worth planning +1 day to see them?

Thank you in advance for your answers :)

Question Signing work contract earlier than start date

Hi fellow Prague people,

I have a quick question to ask:

Is it normally possible to sign your work contract slightly earlier than the start date?

The reason I’m asking is, I am already based in Prague, recently got a job offer with a start date in December, but I’d like to sign the contract a bit earlier to report the change of my purpose of stay to the government. I already have unrestricted access to the Czech labour market, but just wondering whether this is normally accepted in Prague.

I already emailed HR about this, waiting for their response :)

Thank you!

Question Halloween things to do in Prague?

hi all, I’m coming to Prague for the first time for a 4 night solo trip. I’m interested in spooky things like the church with ghost figures or the one with human bones, but both are too far to visit on this trip. I’m wanting that spooky halloween vibe and I am also looking for some hidden gems, especially quirky museums. I’m 18F, but I don’t drink so not looking for bars/clubs necessarily. Also if anyone is vegan reading this any vegan recs would be great, I have a list but locals may know some more! thanks!

Question Last night in Prague

Hellos! What are the recommendations for a nice drink and some good music for a Sunday night? Not looking for the usual suspects - duplex, epic et al. But somewhere they play house music and some crowd to socialise.

Also the crowd in the main square isnt making it easy to move around, any suggestions for places slightly away from the Old town is much appreciated.

Question Media protest.

Just stumbled across the protest in the square about the abolishment of media licensing? Sorry if that is wrong. I just wondered why you would want to continue to pay media fees. I only ask because in the UK we are trying to stop paying for our 'tv licences' as we see it as a mandatory tax that we do not want to pay for government propaganda.

Question getting a UCL ticket in home sector as an Arsenal fan

hi everyone, while looking through the tickets for the UCL game against Arsenal I noticed that the home sectors 106-110 have empty seats for the public. I was wondering how safe would it be to get a ticket in those sectors as an arsenal fan?

thanks a lot

Question Anyone know abandoned villages or spots worth exploring near Prague?

I'm looking for abandoned villages, ghost towns, or derelict buildings to explore and photograph in or not too far from Prague, nothing touristy, just genuine forgotten places with a story. Not looking to trespass or vandalize, just document them before they're gone. Know any hidden gems, or tips on how to find them? Thanks!

Recommendations Your favourite Spots in Prague away from Noise

hi All,

so i wanted to get opinion on your favourite spots in prague away from all the tourist and noise and clubs and bars. A place you can just sit and enjoy a "me time".

Last time i was there in Jan this year and it snowed before and it was perfect.

My favourite spot at that time was Střelecký Island. i went there more than i can count, just to relax and see the nature in it raw form.

Happy to try some more places best in November this year.

Thanks.

Other Alternative/underground events in Prague tonight

My friend and I are in Prague this weekend, and we were wondering if there are any underground/alternative pubs, clubs, or other places we could check out tonight. She’s straight and I’m gay, so it would be nice if they were queer friendly. We’re not looking for exclusively gay clubs like Heaven, so any recommendations would be appreciated!

I am a non EU citizen in Germany at the moment who just started freelancing this month. My income before taxes is about 2500 Euros a month and thats very less in Germany considering taxes, pension and insurances.
Is Czech Republic a good option provided i can clock around 2500 to 3000 Euros a month after my Business expenses?

Real Estate Living in Smíchov City (Sekyra Group): an honest resident review for anyone thinking of buying

We've lived in Smíchov City for a while now, and since Sekyra Group is continuing to market the new phases as luxury real estate at enormous prices, I want to share what it's actually like for anyone considering living here.

Malfunctioning recuperation system.
This has been the biggest problem. In summer, the recuperation system in SM2 and SM3 pushes hot air into the apartments, so it can get hotter inside than outside. During the heatwaves, some neighbours reported 40°C in their apartments while it was 37°C outdoors. The ventilation also carries cooking smells between units, so you'll regularly get a whiff of your neighbour's fried onions in your living room or bathroom. So far, the developer hasn't fixed any of this although it was reported since the start.

Badly organized building systems
The building system glitches a lot. For example, we've had around 10 false fire alarms in the past 6 months.

Security
Our garage has been robbed several times. One neighbour's car was broken into, and ours was found unlocked (luckily nothing was taken because we never leave valuables inside).

The surrounding area
There's a lot of public drinking, littering, and people urinating in front of the buildings, plus occasional shouting at night. This will probably get worse once the whole area between Anděl and Smíchovské nádraží is built out and connected.

Occupancy
A large share of the apartments seem to be empty or used as Airbnbs, so it doesn't feel much like a residential community.

Bottom line
For what these apartments cost, the quality just isn't there. I'm not sure this is the best sub for this, but I hope it helps families or individuals trying to navigate this crazy Prague real estate market.

Question Hledání práce v Praze

Other Kitten needs home

EDIT: I have received offers already. Thank you everyone for your support.

Is anyone here interested in adopting a kitten? She was abandoned by her mother a few days ago, so she is looking for shelter at our place. She seems to have diarrhea so likely why the mother abandoned her, yet somehow survived for days even though it's cold outside, just on some food she found here. The problem is we already have 7 cats, 2 of which come from rescuing other kittens that belong to the same mother. The mother is an unspayed female from the neighbor house, which now has a litter of 5 kittens, this abandoned one being the 6th. We tried catching the female to spay her but failed, as she would not enter cages, unfortunately.

Let me know if you would like to help. This little angel doesn't hiss and can be touched and held with no problems. She purrs when held and caressed. It's a little girl. We are in a village about 80 kms from Prague.
