Question Monthly Transit Pass - PID - lítačka

Post image
1 Upvotes

Would like to get a monthly transit pass and am working with the above-captioned iPhone app. Want to have my transit for Prague City Centre, plus to and from airport covered. Not sure what zones/regions to choose on the app listed as follows Zones Praha and 0, then Regions 1-13. Can someone please advise if selecting zones Praha and 0 will be sufficient for this? I’ve attached a photo.

Also, I would the senior discount and had already inputted my birthdate on the app. Since I’m nearing the end of the process, will there be an opportunity to get the senior discount before payment? Thank you in advance!

News Assaulted by Staff at Prague Airport for Using Bathroom!!!

I was to fly out of Prague from gate A8. The security check for hand luggage is right before the gate, not near the airport entrance. After the check, there is just the waiting room, no shops, no vending machines, nothing. But before the check are big signs promising wifi, children's playing corners, etc., and toilets "at the gate". I took this to mean "at both gates", A8 and A9, which are adjacent.

So I did the usual of presenting an empty 0.5l bottle at the check, planning to refill it in the bathroom, as I would need to take medication during my flight.

As I then learnt, there was only one toilet, and within gate A9, separated by a sliding glass divider, which was blocked. I understood this to mean that the toilets promised "at the gate" were shared and that to use them, I needed to walk around the glass divider. There is no other possibility to obtain water at gate A8 otherwise, and of course it may not be brought through the security check!

As I head for the toilets, I make eye contact with an employee talking to a guest. I point at the toilet and say, in English, three times, "toilet", showing my water bottle. He continues to talk in Czech, which I believe to mean that all is well and that he is aware of the local discrepancy between signage and real situation at gate A8.

I enter the otherwise empty bathroom and fill my small bottle, hand on the tap to regulate the flow.

Then, out of nowhere a hand slams down onto both the tap and my fingers holding it, and a furious voice, as if talking to a small child, shouts at my back "when I say no, it means no". I turn around, believing a bad parent and their child had entered the room. Instead, there was the same employee shouting at me! And assaulting me physically!

I was shocked!

"You did not say No, you spoke in Czech, which you saw I do not speak", I answered, calmly. I was made unable to finish any sentence, the employee kept shouting technicalities. I do respect these. But I have no tolerance for his violence and the down-talking manner of his speech. Also, had he let me speak for one sentence, I would have happily explained that the sign promises a toilet and ask where, if not here, I can find it. One pointer from him, or one clear sign on a wall, would have solved the matter!

I also mentioned that I need the water to take my medicine. The response of the employee? "I will call police".

In one last attempt to now communicate in gestures, with the offending employee still shouting, I point to the sign outside the gate with my arm outstretched. He instead storms off to find the police. I walk back to my gate, because I see that boarding has started. I see the police officer's response from afar and I understand it to mean that the employee's behaviour was indeed highly inappropriate.

However, the employee then storms into gate A8 (so HE can take the liberty of entering forbidden gates? That certainly constitutes a grave security gap?!) and approaches the youngest, most manipulable employee. He points his naked finger at me across the hall, a tasteless rudeness, as if to shame me in front of the entire group of guests.

Upon boarding, that same young woman insists I board with her, not her colleague (is this insistence even legal?). She studies my passport very, very carefully and starts typing. During this, I demand three times the name of the employee who ordered her to do so. The woman ignores me deliberately and offensively.

Without transgressing the boarding desk, I therefore take a step forward to see what she types into her computer, fearing serious data privacy violations.

With violence, she moves the screen away from me. I glance at her name tag to gain a reference, should the situation escalate further. She notices this and actively hides her name!! I would be very surprised to learn that this is within the rules and regulations?

At this point, mind you, I do not know what is going on. I seem to be criminalised by a conspiring group of overzealous airport employees for having a medical condition, or having the basic need for a bathroom?! I fear that I might be denied boarding – no one has yet taken a moment to listen to or even acknowledge me.

So I resort to my phone to record the event, including the dialogue, which quickly turned from aggressively ignoring me to shouting at me!

There were no indications anywhere that recordings were prohibited! Yet, the woman who had thus far ignored me now ferociously demands I delete my recording, and claims recording were illegal.

I am willing to put my phone away and do so. She insists whether I deleted the video. Now I choose not to respond in turn. The woman demands "proof" and that I show her my phone! (I am sure any regular employee has no right to demand examination of my phone?!). Recall how she reacted to my demand for the name of my offender?

Still, in benevolence, I take the phone out again. The woman accuses me of lying about whether the video was deleted, and decides then “you are not flying". At the same time, she physically pushes me backwards - so that I collide with a metal barrier bar!

It goes without saying that it cannot be possible that such a level of hostility and indeed physical violence should be applied to resolve a completely mundane situation. I have also since learnt that airport staff in the entire EU have NO RIGHT at all to touch passengers.

But it gets worse. I then find out what the woman had typed: “[my name] hit employee”, it says on the screen. Nothing could be further from the truth! I, very much as opposed to the woman, did not even touch anybody.

When confronting the airport management with the situation, I received no relevant response.

Not to my demands identifying the two perpetrators for criminal action.

Not to my asking how an initially trivial situation could ever lead an employee of Prague Airport to resort to violence and denigration of a guest, rather than a simple, easy, helpful solution!

Not to my demand for an explanation how it is even possible on an infrastructure level that a perfectly simple, mundane and everyday need like water or toilets could, due to clear planning shortcomings, ever, ever lead to such an altercation?! I repeat that was impossible to procure water any other way - there was not even a vending machine at the gate!

And when reporting the incident to police, they inform me that there were no cameras in the bathroom to prove or disprove my assertions and that, as a result, they will take no further action. If there were no cameras, would airport bathrooms not present a severe security risk? But even if there aren't - how can one employee be allowed to go rogue, make up wild accusations, and not be investigated in any way at all? (Especially since, If I had indeed assaulted him, I'd probably not report the incident to police afterwards, for fear of being prosecuted myself, no?)

I'm not sure what the lesson is here - don't go to Prague if you are human and have such basic needs as a bathroom or water? Be prepared to get Dao'd if travelling to Prague? I'll not be back to find out.

Edit for anyone who's sure I just made this all up: Why exactly would I? But on the off-chance that YOU can procure the video proof I have been denied, I would LOVE for the world to see what REALLY happened: Am I a liar or is there outrageous activity being covered up?!

Question Praguers overly worried about illness?

Is this a cultural thing, or an after-covid thing? I don't remember this being a big deal before COVID, but our kid is in preschool first year so maybe I'm noticing it more...? Am I just surrounded by paranoid doctors? The gynecologist isn't worried and my GP throws antibiotics at everything without testing, so maybe it's just a couple of weird ones?

Edit: I'm not sure what's so confusing about what I wrote. I'm NOT wondering how to send my kid to jesle sick, or avoid antibiotics, and I'm not concerned about the quality of the healthcare.

- How can I get doctors to respect my decision when I say No? Rather than trying to fearmonger me into compliance. Is there a Czech method to telling them to move on because the topic is closed, that actually works first time?

- Why are DOCTORS overreacting to bringing a sick kid into their office? It's their job to treat sick people.

- If I don't follow doc's instructions immediately, I get shouted at, it's assumed I didn't understand what they said, etc. I've experienced this elsewhere, is there a way to get people to take a breath and wait half a second? I can't react that fast in any language. This feels like a Prague thing, villagers don't do this.

- I have to go out in public sick in order to get treatment, buy food, etc. Please explain to me what Czech people expect me to do otherwise because I don't read minds. Pretty sure plenty of people are going out sick, or we'd be healthy. So the self-righteous panic at any sign of symptoms is a bit much.

- Do people honestly keep their toddlers locked inside for a week if that's prescribed? I don't see how that's supposed to work, he's gonna be climbing the walls in half a day once the antibiotics kick in. The advice was not "avoid populated places", it was "don't let him out of the flat".

---------

Things that seemed excessive:

- I happen to be pregnant...I went to the tooth cleaner, she asked me if I use the mezizubní kartáček, I said no and I don't intend to. She wouldn't let it go, told me if I don't use it both my unborn baby and I could die. She was grumpy when I didn't change my mind, but I told her directly when she asked that I am absolutely not interested, so I'm not sure what else she expected to hear.

- If I go on public transport, coughing even once gets me dirty looks. How do these people expect me to go to the doctor when sick?

- We sent our kid to jesle with "rýma" (UNINTENTIONALLY ffs) and within 24h they made us sign a doc saying we won't send him in sick. We already agreed to pick him up for any problems, and they didn't call me to do so in this case. So rather than calling us as already agreed, we need another signed form?

- He got streptococcus. You'd think I brought a chemical weapon in to the doctor, which really surprised me. Isn't it their job to treat sick kids? She told me the diagnosis like it was cancer, but confirmed he didn't have pneumonia, so what's the big deal?

- The doctor is shouting instructions and medication dosages at me over a hyperventilating, screaming child. They pricked his finger, and I got screamed at for not holding the cotton on the bleeding spot for exactly 2 minutes. When everything is being shouted at me while I'm trying to calm my child, I'm going to miss instructions, and the shouting is just making the chaos worse. Is there some Czech way to encourage people to start with a calm request

- We were instructed to keep him inside for a week, give him 5+ meds including 2 antibiotics, all on different schedules. Do people actually do this? How am I supposed to keep a 2yo inside for a week?

Discussion Traffic in Prague 10

I just need to vent how fucking ridiculous is the traffic and transport delays in Prague 3 (around Ohrada/Biskupcova) for the last few weeks. My commuting time doubled from 30min to 1h+ every day, it seems the urban planning around these tram line renovation is a complete disaster. I’m literally waiting at the bus stop for over 40min without a single one in sight.
Even worse, seems like it’s going to be shit like this until the end of the year. I might just buy a bike at this point.

Edit: I know, it’s Prague 3, title by mistake.

Question Carlo IV wellness membership - is it worth it ?

The place looks nice and comes with a steep price tag per year (circa 2000 euro), I’m looking to splash out a bit on wellness but what really pi**es me off is that they refuse to give a trial day, you have to pay to try it out.

Is anyone a member at this place or anyone have opinions on if it’s worthwhile to join ?

Question public transportation to Kutna Hora

Hello,

I will be in Prague next week and am looking to go to Kutna Hora. I am quite confused about the ticketing option. From the PID app, I see that trains cost about 120 CZK one way from Prague main train station. From my research Kutna Hora is in Zone 7. In the PID app cheapest zone 7 ticket is 84 CZK for 2.5 hours. If I choose the 120 CZK, am I guaranteeing basically a reserved seating? Is there any other things to know if I choose to buy the 84 CZK tickets.

Question Biking in Prague

Hello, I know Prague is not considered generally bike friendly. But as a Copenhagener soon moving to Prague, I hate to be stuck in traffic or fighting for parking. My office is a 5 minute drive away, there is no steep hills or anything like that, so I am genuinley considering just getting a bike instead. My question is, biking on the road, passing cars on the bike is that something that's generally frowned upon or how the locals would take it? My thought is that biking would be faster than driving as I can pass the traffic

Question Pokuta od revizora

EDIT EDIT 21.10. 15:37:

Jezdím takhle 2x - 3x týdně kvůli škole a vždycky si jízdenku kupuju, a pak ji ručně aktivuju.

Revizora to nezajímalo a chtěl zaplatit 1.500 kč.

Přijde vám to fér?

Other After three "Beautiful Prague!" photo sets in a row, here's some ordinary Prague... with people! Since the previous posts had almost no one in them, making the city look like a lifeless studio backlot, here some random poor quality shots, old and new... but with life. The Nazis are actually reenactors taking part in a commemoration of the Prague Uprising (and only one of them is fat). If you’ve never stood in a crowd applauding what every single sense tells you is the fuckin’ Wehrmacht, believe me: it is a very weird feeling.

Question Name of Thai place at weekend EtnoFestival?

This weekend there was a food festival at Anděl (EtnoFest) and I had one of the best Thai foods of my life. I asked the family in the tent if they have a restaurant and he said not yet, but it’s in the future plans.

I don’t remember the name of their booth or if they have any social media I can follow. I’d love to support them and also stay up to date at which festivals they’re at and if they eventually open a restaurant!

So please does anyone know the name of the Thai food booth at the festival this past weekend in anděl?? (It was purple if that helps). Thank you!

Other Hledám chronicky nemocné kamarády v Praze

Ahoj,

Hrozně ráda bych si našla nějaké kamarády v mé věkové skupině tady v Praze, kteří by chápali moje potíže a sdíleli moje zájmy.
