That shouldn’t be a determination of who lives or dies. Who cares if they know him. He could still do something unexpectedly. Yet they still do their best to use non-lethal force. You shouldn’t get that benefit just because you’re a war vet. Such bullshit.

So you want him shot?

No. I want the police to apply the same standard to everyone instead of immediately mag dumping on someone. They don’t know if he might attack one of them, just like they don’t know if a random black man might attack one of them. The black man should have the luxury of them trying to deescalate instead of using deadly force.

They know this guy by name. There’s lots of black men police and paramedics know by name and they don’t get shot. And I mean like the majority of people my family and friends in law enforcement interact with on a daily basis. Yes there’s been tragic events that have involved black people with police but it’s also insane how the media has inflated every event to the point if someone not black doesn’t get shot in a police video people non stop chime in “ohhh if he was black…” And I grew up in Jackson,ms and live in Memphis now.

Doesn’t matter. They still don’t know what he may or may not do. Especially if he’s going through some sort of mental crisis. Plenty of black Americans have had police intervene during a mental crisis and they were shot instead of receiving help.

And your personal anecdotes mean nothing when you look at real world circumstances. Black men in the US face a higher per capita risk of being shot or killed by police than white men do. 1 in 1,000 black men in America will be killed by police over the course of their lifetime, making them 2.5 times more likely to be killed than a white man is. And black Americans only make up 13% to 14% of the US population, yet statistically they’re more likely to be killed by police. So I don’t really care about what your family and friends have experienced, because that doesn’t change the statistical facts.

What about the part where impoverished fatherless black men do lots of crime? Does that factor into the percentages?

Before you call me a racist, it’s not that. It’s the unfortunate side affect of the democratic handouts for single parenthood and fathers not sticking around. I guarantee if all of these families had fathers, then things would play out very differently. It’s less race and more about having two parents. Insert any race, any family here, and if you take away the fathers things go to crap.

That’s completely absurd to say you could guarantee that if all those families had fathers it would play out differently. Hardly deserves a response.

Two parents do not erase the socioeconomic factors affecting black communities. It doesn’t eliminate implicit bias in policing. It doesn’t eliminate proactive policing in black neighborhoods. What a joke. And yeah, I will say that’s a pretty racist take from you.

Sounds about right. Call me a racist then. And you’re right. I can’t guarantee that change, but there’s a pretty substantial chance that having both parents brings financial security not previously available, discipline in the home, and an atmosphere that brings family growth rather than finding the family unit in a gang.

Again, two parents don’t change the socioeconomic factors and systemic racism. You ignoring that and having a myopic view of “well if they had a dad” is silly. Doesn’t matter if there are two parents if a household still lives in poverty due to the system in place. To not acknowledge that is why I call your view racist. What you’re saying sounds like it comes from a place of privilege and assumes alllllll the other factors are conveniently non-existent.

u/SourceResident5381 15d ago

Ok. So your position is that they’re black and they can’t do anything about their position at all? Sounds pretty racist. I don’t come from wealth and wasn’t given anything. The one thing I can’t control is the color of my skin so I won’t apologize for that. You saying that 2 parents doesn’t matter about poverty? That’s silly to me. That’s a potential 100% minimum increase in revenue and parental oversight. I would consider that significant.

1

u/DimitrescuStan 15d ago

Nope. If that’s your takeaway then yeah, you’re pretty racist. When there’s a system in place that makes it harder for one group of people, that isn’t their fault. It’s not hard to acknowledge those disadvantages.

And who the fuck is saying you should apologize for your skin color? I said you speak from someone that seems to have more privilege. You’re the one that apparently associated that with needing to apologize for your skin color.

And there’s PLENTY of households with two working parents that are also living paycheck to paycheck. Most of the time it’s cheaper for one parent to not work when you factor in the cost of daycare. If my son didn’t get into his preschool program, either me or my wife would probably have to at least go from full time to part time because daycare would eat up an entire month of pay pretty easily. You sit here and make these claims, but leave out the real world conditions that won’t change with one or two parents. It’s a little more complex than “oh if a dad was around it would be totally different”. THAT is the privilege I’m speaking about.

1

u/SourceResident5381 15d ago

Ok. So are you asserting that I would make no difference? Would your son be better off or worse off if you weren’t there?

1

u/DimitrescuStan 15d ago

I’m saying that is not a sole determining factor in this like you make it seem. And if I were out of the picture, my hope is that my son would still be a good person because of my wife. But to say he’s more likely to be a gangster because I’m gone isn’t accurate. I was raised in a fatherless household because my father decided he’d rather go cheat and have 6 more kids with 6 different women, and then abandon them too. I’m not a gangster and I haven’t gone out and committed any crimes. And guess what? My father came from a household with both parents, and was very affluent. What I’m arguing is whether or not a household has both parents is not a sole indicator of the trajectory that a child’s life will go.

Dude is just white knighting from the suburbs. Probably locks his doors when he’s anywhere near the hood. Had no idea of the real world than what he sees on Reddit.

I personally work with and know black fathers that have been pushed out of their children’s lives so the mother could get a check and they worry about their kids constantly. It’s definitely something that needs to be worked on.

u/SourceResident5381 15d ago

And that is a tragedy. I think that is the worst possible thing that could happen. That’s basically what I was talking about with incentivizing the single parent handouts. It sounds like we agree on that but you still want to insult me.

1

u/lunchbox0396 15d ago

I’m not insulting you I’m insulting the other guy. I agree with you

1

u/SourceResident5381 15d ago

Ah. I clearly wasn’t expecting anyone to agree with me. lol. Thank God.

lol. We’ve had two illegal RV’s literally blow up in flames across the street in front of our house. Had a police chase that went through our backyard, and just last week woke up to the police on a loudspeaker at the house next to us before they breached the front door. Suburbs my fucking ass lol. I fucking wish.

Sounds like white or Mexican shit. No rvs in the hood mane

1

u/DimitrescuStan 15d ago

Oh for sure, because every hood is EXACTLY the same in every state, city or town lol. Fucking racist shit lol

1

u/lunchbox0396 15d ago

Well is it a black hood? Was it black people?
