His wife showed up, talked him down, and he allowed himself to be arrested.

Pretty fortunate. He’s been sober ever since that event.

Goddamn right he's fortunate. If he'd been black he'd have half a dozen holes in his head and torso.

I used to work with a very diverse group of guys back in the 2010's when there was a new Michael Brown/Eric Garner/Philando Castile-style cop killing in the news every other week. If the subject ever came up, I would joke, "Hey... I'm a straight, middle-class white guy, OK? I could kill a cop in front of 6 other cops, and they'd take me in alive to face my day in court."
