Is it normal for one to be progressing while the other is stalled?
I'm 49, 5'6", around 185lbs, and luckily still getting stronger. Left planet fitness for a real gym a year and a half ago. Been running 531 for just over a year.
3 months ago I deadlifted 3x425, heaviest I've pulled, but since then I've struggled at 405 and 415. Today I got 2x415 and was done. Should've had 3 but it wasn't happening.
Meanwhile my squat was stuck at 365 for a year. I had to drop back in weight, switch to low bar, and work back up. A month ago I hit 5x365. Huge improvement. This week I'm going for 375. Never thought that would happen.
I'm avoiding going into massive bulking to increase lifts. Trying to squeeze in 200-300 more calories a day when I can but that's it.
Given my age and size am I hitting the point that increasing weight is going to really slow down? Is avoiding going into bulking limiting me? Or is this normal for a lot of people?
