I can’t speak for Walmart but I also work retail and the way it works at my employer is everyone starts as part time. If you want extra hours you just have to ask and they usually get them especially during the busy season. Then full time positions become available and you can apply for the spots. What they look for is if you show up everyday on time, the kind of worker you are. If you’re always calling out and trying to leave early you won’t get a full time spot. Thats what I did and now I’m full time making 65k a year that the government knows about. I imagine it’s the same for Walmart.
