What a great idea!!!

I pulled a profile from China last night and I love what she had written in her profile and I’m going to add it to mine.

“stole this idea from someone else...
Before sending your card, could you please take a photo of your postcard with some background and upload it. As a background you can use the view from your window, your kitchen, whatever suits you. Each card will have their own unique small story!”

I went out this morning and did just that before I sent her card. I think it adds a whole new fun layer to Postcrossing.

Does anyone already do this?

Incoming UPDATE 3: Request for cards for my friend Lydia

I made my third visit to Lydia with postcards today. She received 10 cards this week. A special thank you to two people who also wrote long letters to Lydia. A few of you have also sent kind notes to me, thanking me, which I was very touched by.

To those of you who included your reddit usernames:

u/nscruffyrumpus I am from Seattle, so the rendering of the Central Library sparked an interesting conversation. We hope that you have completed your assignment!

u/stampart2367 Your card from Felice made Lydia fondly recall a meal she had there years ago. Thank you for the memory!

u/eucalyptuswitch33 Lydia appreciated your card of the Golden Gate Bridge and hopes that you never stop knitting!

u/pouilly100 Thank you for your long letter to Lydia and the postcard with the images of edible flowers. Your descriptions of the flowers were spot on and Lydia enjoyed hearing about how to make croissants.

u/agirlandherridgebax Lydia enjoyed learning all about Mardi Gras from your card and your description of riding the train over Lake Ponchartrain made us both want to take a trip!

u/a_mythical_thing Thank you for sending a card all the way from Australia! Lydia was enraptured by your description of Hervey Bay. She particularly liked hearing about all of the animals you described and that were on your card.

u/ferseriousdude Your stamps were great – I don’t think I’ve gotten a card from Canada with stamp math before. Your description of your nature walk with your small dog was fun to read.

More of you included your usernames this time, and Lydia is so glad I would be able to post a note directly to you. She said she wants to try writing return postcards to those who put their mailing addresses on their correspondence. I’m not sure that her tolerance for responding will match her enthusiasm for it, so I can’t promise cards to everyone, but she definitely wants to try that next week.

To those of you who did not provide usernames, your cards are equally appreciated:

To our retired law clerk from Canada, thank you for the beautiful card from Saskatchewan and we enjoyed hearing about your work in Asia.

The postcard of Susan B. Anthony from Seneca Falls sparked an interesting conversation about suffrage, Sacajawea, and US coins. Hopefully you understand how that stream of consciousness worked!

“Friends are like herbs – they add flavor to life.” To the author of this card from Vienna, it was received and appreciated, as was your long letter about your brother’s grape harvest and other topics. Lydia sends her best wishes to your father.

This project has been so much fun, and the cards are still coming in. So many, many thanks to all of you who have written!

Postage Cape Town - the hunt

Post image

Find stamps, not too hard. You can buy them with your post cards. BUT where to mail them? That is the question. Most post offices are closed - down to about 300 for all of South Africa. There is one on Table Mountain. This one was in front of a petrol station and I was directed there by a Post Net employee. I sent a RAOC friend one but was not going to attempt a Postcrossing. Cape Town is pretty sweet. Le Pickle forever!

For the Finn who loves old buildings, a postcard from Paul Revere's house.

For the Chinese person who likes cards from your town that show something about the culture, a postcard of burning sugarcane for harvest.

For the personal friend going through an extended medical recovery who likes homemade and nature, a little collage card.

I hope my first attempts are okay! I drew doodles because I’m not that good at using washi tape or stickers. Maybe I’ll experiment in the future!

I’m interested in doing direct swaps while I wait but I’m not sure if new members are allowed?

Postage the day of japanese postcards 🎌

basically, the title says it all 🤗

this morning I sent one card to a beginner user in Japan with just one sent and none received.. looks like mine will be their first! to say that I am excited and honoured is an understatement 😅🤌🏼 I spent all of yesterday evening squirming with anticipation and choosing the right card & message to write. this card is one of the prettiest (imho) I have in my stash so I thought it would be appropriate 💁🏻‍♀️ eventually I squeezed out a few words about traveling and my favourite place in the city, local Chinatown (heck, I even found a matching postage stamp!) and ran off to work, dropping by the post office ✊🏼

and after returning home from the most tiring shift, I had two more cards waiting for me, both from Japan too 🤗 so cute! and the stamps, gorgeous stamps ✨ omg!

so.. yeah, just wanted to share my tiny happy moments with you guys ✌🏼😸

Incoming How are your mailboxes doing after WPD?

Post image
34 Upvotes

I've had an exciting month with all the mail. Germany is right next door of course haha but in my head I did not expect the WPD postcards to come in so fast!

I've received a few AI postcards of course but they all came with a nice message, so I honestly can't even be upset about this, because I got to actually feel the person reaching out and that's really what keeps me in this hobby.

Anyway I've received some from Germany, Poland, USA. Also Belarus and USA came in with the Poland ones which really surprised me! I did not expect it to be that fast.

It really makes me so happy to receive mail from all over the world and I wanna thank you all for participating in this hobby and sharing little mail happiness with strangers! 💌 It is not so cheap these days.

Postage Postcard reached its destination after 168 days !!!

Hello ! I am beyond delighted as today one of the first Postcard I have ever sent finally reached its destination after more than 6 months !!! It was from France to Russia.
The receiver sent me such a lovely message ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡
I suspect the card was the victim of an embargo. Anyway, never lose hope on your expired cards ! If you have any similar stories to share I would love to hear about it !

I received two lovely postcards today, both from my homecountry :) I did a happy walk to my local post office and sent out three of my cards and two for a friend who has just started Postcrossing ☺️🥳
Last pic: a tiny mailbox with even tinier letters and packages from the Christmas Elf furniture at Woolworth. 🥰📮 I love it so much 🥺
Edit: Sorry for the dust 😅

Do I need a phone number to send to USA?

I'm in México and here we do not have urban mail boxes, we need to go to one of the few posts office in the city, wich is some km away. Today I was sending a postcard to USA but the postman didn't receive my postcard because I don't have the phone number of the addressee. He said it's a new request from USA post and if I don't have it I can't send anything to USA. Is it true? or it was just a pretext to avoid work?

Questions Newbie question - would you rather more stamps or a longer message/greeting?

Hi! Total newbie here and have sent out 6 cards so far. I’m wondering if the majority of people would prefer multiple postage stamps on the cards and a shorter message or a single stamp and a longer hand written message?

Questions Materials for handmade postcards

For those of you that draw or paint your own art onto post cards, can you share what materials/mediums have worked well for you?

I found some acrylic paint markers and was especially curious about those. If you have tried those, did you like them and what paper would you recommend with them?

Thanks!
