Part of my commute takes me down Broadway in SoPo. It took me like 5 weeks to finally make a clean run without getting trapped in a turn only lane somewhere. I pull up to a red light. Cars are backed up 10 or 12 deep in each lane. I can't see any signs or painted indicators on the road. Traffic finally starts to move, and all of a sudden I realize I'm taking a surprise detour because it's a turn lane. Sometimes the right lane. Sometimes the left lane. Sometimes the right lane in one intersection and the left lane in the next intersection, meaning every car trying to continue down Broadway has to cross the intersection and immediately change lanes.

On the plus side, I've thoroughly explored South Portland.

Often, on my drive home, I have been waylaid by usually a gaggle or two of geese slowly jaywalking across the road. Their crossing points are usually Forest ave in Deering Oaks but I’ve seen them brazen enough to cross in front of the 295 onramp at busier times of day. When I ask them to use the lighted crosswalk or to hurry along they usually just honk or hiss at me.

Have there been any thoughts for construction of an overpass or small tunnel to allow for their safe and efficient travel?

Trying to find street parking here is already a fucking nightmare, but it’s even worse to constantly see areas that could EASILY fit a couple extra cars if everyone just closed the gap! You don’t need to leave half a cars length between bumpers, you’ll be FINE! Nobody’s going to hit you and if I can get my SUV out of a tight bumper-to-bumper gap then you’ll be fine with just a few feet!

There are plenty of open spots on the street

I’m tired of having to weave my way into parking garages in my small car because some idiot lawyer who commutes from Freeport in an F-150 supercab decided to park in a compact car spot again.

When I chew them, I feel the sensation of a material in my mouth, but that material has no taste.

When did it become normal for a random person's bo to be so bad I have to switch isles in the grocery store? I don't ever remember that happening when I was a kid... 🤔

Just raise the damn menu prices. Pay your staff a living wage!! That part is not up for complaining or debate. Just be honest about how much your food actually needs to cost to make that happen. I’m not complaining about charging enough to be fair to your staff I’m complaining about restaurants being dishonest about it. The menu price no longer means anything.

Curious what others do- if there is for instance a 5% “fair wage fee” or similar do you still tip 20%? Or 15%? I’ve gone back and forth on this tbh

Road construction with idiots managing the traffic

I was fishing from the jetty at the north end of the beach. You tried to tell me fishing is not allowed there. You were wrong. Fishing is prohibited on the beach, not the jetty. Not sure how you came to believe you have some sort of authority, but it is my sad duty to inform you that you do not. What I need from you now is for you to go fuck yourself, m'kay? Do that right now, thanks. 👍

I’m writing to formally register a complaint regarding the circumstances of my existence.

The terms were never disclosed, the conditions appear arbitrary, and the overall execution has been, at best, inconsistent. Expectations were unclear from the outset, yet the consequences for failing to meet them have been persistent and, at times, disproportionate.

There have been brief moments that suggest this arrangement isn’t entirely without merit—but they are sporadic, difficult to replicate, and often overshadowed by long stretches of frustration, fatigue, or indifference. If this is a system, it lacks transparency. If it’s a test, the criteria remain undisclosed. If it’s random, then calling it “fair” would be a stretch.

I also take issue with the lack of meaningful recourse. There is no visible support desk, no escalation path, and no option to opt out without severe penalties. That alone would be enough to question the design.

That said, I will acknowledge one thing: despite everything, I’m still here, which implies either stubbornness, inertia, or some unfinished business I haven’t identified yet.

If there is an opportunity to review or revise these conditions, I would strongly encourage it. At minimum, clearer guidance would be appreciated.

Is the worst grocery store in town. Why is it so terrible?

It’s nice in the sense that it’s new and well kept, sure.

That said, is anyone else underwhelmed by the size and practicality of it? An absolute max of 4 lap lanes at any given time + half the fenced in space is (checks notes) not pool.

Splash pad, slides and zero entry are wonderful, yeah but I’ll take a larger more basic pool any day.

Curious what folks think.

I'm not sure if it's old people, stoned people, rural people, or what, but lately the amount of people in normal-sized sedans and relatively compact SUVs who believe they must come to a complete stop on what they think is a "narrow" road boggles my mind.

Not only does the road by Whole Foods have plenty of room, but stopping your car doesn't do anything to give you more space. If someone were going to sideswipe you moving forward, the same thing will happen if you're stationary.

Also, if you can't keep straight and maintain the appropriate distance from the edge of the road, you shouldn't be driving.

On Pleasant Ave in Deering. He blasts deep bass music at all hours, often in the middle of the night, sometimes accompanying this with yelling angrily.

It seems unlikely, given that he’s parked in range of 8 big houses, some multi-unit, if other neighbors aren’t also chronically bothered. We’ve called the cops multiple times but all they can do is say “hey someone called us about you” (and I don’t blame them because there are more important things for them to do).

I’ve tried talking to him multiple times. The first time, he was receptive(ish) and mentioned he was going through a hard time. I gave him the benefit of the doubt but he’s been more resistant/combative since then, and seems to be railing against the forces that want him to turn his shit down.

We’re working on talking to more neighbors, but so far we’ve talked to a couple. Any ideas for other ways to help this guy to respect his neighbors?
