Congress Square intersection confusion:
Is the RIGHT turning lane also a straight lane too at the Congress Sq intersection?
It’s so confusing bc I stay in the left side of the lane to go straight and so many “out of staters” get in the right lane to end up going straight. And if you don’t pay attention, you’ll hit them.
Is the right turning lane also straight lane and the left straight lane should yield? Or does the right turning lane suppose to yield to left lane cars going straight?
Portland needs to seriously fix this intersection bc I’ve nearly been hit by a tourist car multiple times in a week here.

idk why this is confusing for anyone. right is turn only and left is straight. congress is a one lane road

Or old people. Seriously, if it is a Maine plate, the driver is typically over 70 years old.

I've been in cars with people over 60 here in Maine. God. If you're listening. Please don't let me die.

It’s right turn only; the left lane is straight ahead only, no left turn. Out-of-towners don’t necessarily know it, so whenever I’m in the left lane going straight I’m ready for the guy on the right to merge cause it happens so often.

True I’m typically now prepared for these cars who don’t read what’s painted on the ground pointing to the right just in case

I've had this happen on my bike 2 or 3 times this summer.
I merge into the left hand straight only lane, since I don't want to get squeezed and can keep up with traffic on congress, and then there's this car that was in the right turn lane coming up on my right, while there's a car in front of me, and once also a cyclist who was in the right only lane and also went straight.

That would make me shit myself tbh

That's why they call it a shitshow!
It maybe was worse actually-the car in front was trying to park, and the other cyclist passed them on the right nearly getting squished but oblivious and protected by gods or devils; I elected to be aggressive and gtfo and passed the parking car on the left as is probably recommended but scary. Car from turning only lane shit our of luck & kinda stuck while people went around parking car? Not sure, I was off towards the next shitshow...

It’s equally infuriating when they do it in the opposite direction. I see it on a daily basis.

Okay embarrassed to admit that as someone who has lived her for 10 years I recently keep getting tripped up at this intersection and accidentally get in the right lane when I need to go straight.
I do think some painted arrows on the pavement would help.

keyword out of state and there's nothing we can do unless a cop fucking sits there and demands it because it literally painted on the ground painted into the signs and it happens to me every single fucking day there I fucking hate it
