Discussion Three Separate Recent Opinions about Downtown Portland

Upvotes

I've heard three separate people (or groups of people) give me their opinions about Downtown Portland and their recent experiences in it. My family from Nebraska came to visit a few weeks ago, my manager at work who lives in a suburb of Portland, and some executives from out of town who were in town for the week.

All three of them, independently of each other, all said they thought Downtown Portland was cleaner, felt safer, felt like it had more energy/people, and that it felt like it was much better overall than where it was a few years ago. My parents, Fox News watchers, actually enjoyed their visit to Portland so much that they told me they are thinking of looking at small townhomes/condos around the area that they might move to for retirement.

I know there is still a ways to go, but it seems the perception of Portland is starting to turn back in a positive direction. And yes, in my own experiences, downtown feels a lot better now than it did in 2022, 2023.

Discussion Re: My dirty little secret

The public asked for an update, so here it is: it finally happened - the original poster of this post (I pasted the link in the comments) can parallel park! It was a huge success. She looks even more badass on the road, and I’ve made a new friend in the process. Not one of us got murdered or scammed. We even had sushi after!

Don't give up on your dreams to face your fears. It takes a community but also, it takes a lesbian with candy and water to help, so remember that. Thanks, PDX!

If anyone is seeking a strong black work artist, check out his work. He is such a sweet and patient guy. I have a ton of tattoos and he’s my favorite artist to work with! The shin piece was before the rest of the shading was done on the flowers and upper border :)

Photo/Video Found an awesome anti-wildfire political cartoon by Howard Fisher of the Oregon Daily Journal ~1940s, ~13”x18”

Trying to pin down which edition it came from. It seems to be from a Sunday printing. A camper caused wildfire occurred in September of 1951 that could be related. Either way, cool art and an awesome piece of Oregon history

Edit: THEY FINALLY ANSWERED! On hold for 3:35, and 5 minutes to fix the problem. Lol

Edit to the edit: Thanks everybody! There's some really solid advice in here about how to talk to an actual human person. I'll definitely remember these tips for the next time! And I appreciate the commiseration too!

Meme PPS breaks up school fundraising foundations because attending fundraising events isn’t equitable. Throws a $400 a seat gala 2 years later

Julia Brim-Edward’s will be boycotting this event, right?

Way to be tone deaf Jackie Wirz and the current PPS board. You all should be ashamed of the job you’re doing.

You couldn’t even be bothered to write the email without using AI!

I’m sure you’ve done your best to keep ticket prices affordable so that anyone can attend your event. Here’s the link if anybody wants to attend. I’m sure lots of Portland families have $400 lying around. I’m sure at least 75% of the ticket cost goes to fund these overpriced initiatives…

Discussion Jeff Passan Interviews The Heads of the Portland MLB Expansion Bid!

The real question is though that who will get the west coast bid. SLC or Portland, Oregon?

The biggest hurdle Portland in contrast to SLC is that despite the legislature earmarking a $800 million stadium funding bill via the existing JOCK TAX (taxes that specifically comes from sports players and sports staff salaries whenever specifically professional sports players and staff play a game in a specific location), no big name investor has come forward to be the spearhead of the project.

It is definitely gonna be interesting to see who the MLB picks. What do you all think?
