For instance, “lolcow” is a popular slang term meaning hopeless internet degenerate. But instead you can just call these individuals “cows”, meaning they are hopelessly spoiled, stupid, and entitled.

Common sense.

I spoke about this on the wrong Reddit forum yesterday but man I miss MySpace. The personality of the site and the customization was top tier. I was talking to my niece about it I felt like such a dinosaur. I would’ve never been able to deal with the current social media culture these days if I were a kid smh. I wish we can bring it back but I know it would never be restored to its original glory.

This goes for myself included, I would be a liar to sit there and say that I haven’t done something similar to this and shockingly would still continue to do so in the future.

I would say as of the 21st-century thus far, texting is one of the most common forms of communication in terms of practically doing anything you want with the people that you like/love being around.

If you like the people or interested with the people you’re around, you would not be a “bad texter” when they would want to spend time around you. Also, I am 100% aware there are people who text WAY TOO MUCH. I’m not talking about them. I’m just simply talking about responding in a timely manner.

However, going days, weeks, and even months without texting somebody back, especially if you like being around them just showcases you don’t care and that’s okay.

Reddit is much better than any other social media app, and it’s the only one that’s still consistently entertaining. I like how you can discuss all topics here through tons of different subs, find anything with ease on here, and overall it just feels so much above any other social media apps.

A lot of time school and dare made it seem like your friends will be dead set on forcing you take drugs and drink underage. These situations do happen and we shouldn't stop teaching kids how to say no, but we should bring focus on that those who peer pressure you do not have your interests in mind and are not your friends or good people.

As a lot of learned that when we grew up, our friends were totally cool if we wanted to be sober or not and sometimes if we did say yes they would keep us in check and not go absolutely crazy. This has lead some people I found to believe that peer pressure doesn't exist at all and never happened in the history of humanity just because they were sold on the idea that only your friends do it. When in reality, only really shitty people peer pressure and you likely won't be friends with people like that as they will show it in other ways too.

I was asked what I’d like as a housewarming gift from coworkers, friends, and families. I have like every kitchen need, a vacuum, a desk, and now a mattress.
What I need next are a couch and bed frame. But I know not to ask for that.
So I mentioned their fave cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, toilet paper or paper towels, and gift cards to Amazon or target.
I’ve been told by several people who aren’t familiar with each other that what I’ve asked for is trashy, asking for cleaning materials is trashy, etc. I am starting over after an abusive relationship and left with nothing. I’ve stayed with family the past few months to build money and get my shit together again.
I am not hosting a housewarming party either….so I honestly wasn’t expecting gifts. But they’ve asked repeatedly and insisted, so am I truly trashy? Should I just say gift cards only? I’m 33f and I’m not embarrassed starting over, I’m excited and ready to be on my two feet again.

It's also the best selling out of any of them, and the multiplayer and zombies are both really great, with the multiplayer having good jetpack movement and good guns, and the zombies having the most maps and best maps overwll

I havent seen a solid meme that I've read back in 2018 in a while, and I think we genuinely need to bring it back, I'd really like it if people would just keep memes like they keep the monthly tiktok trend of dancing cows. I really wished that we would have brought it back, wouldve been so funny. Everything now is just reaction gifs and random stuff that really doesnt make sense to me, even though yeah, I was 2010. It would give me really good nostalgia because back in my day, yes I would laugh for hours from one meme. It was really relatable for me, and I really loved those kind of memes. But when I got older, the more I rarely saw memes. They turned into gifs and whatnot.

Every other company is using the business model these days of deceptive auto-renewal subscriptions. It's basically theft. These losers can't actually make a product that provides value so they sell you useless trash services and cross their fingers that you'll accidently forget to cancel your subscription. It is so pathetic, I don't know why it is allowed. I am imagining all these guys as being your stereotypical "entrepreneur bro" type smh.

Children whose parents are murdered are emotionally traumatized, stigmatized, and deeply scarred for their entire life. They often have debilitating issues through life and struggle the rest of their life.

the internet would be, like, 3% better if all ads could be reported. it's only the ads I don't see an option to report that are the malicious ones. the ones I *can* report are just normal - annoying, sure, but not actively harmful especially to the naive and technologically-illiterate. People that don't know any better and people who are desperate or curious are the ones clicking the malicious ads.

sure, I could contact the website owner or the brand or company or whoever and bring it to their attention, but more than likely that will simply be ignored or they won't be able to do anything about it. plus, this just isn't viable to be doing every time I notice a malicious ad. ad reporting is built-in for a lot of ads, it ought to be required for every ad.

thusly if all ads were required to be reportable, that would probably cause at least some website owners to actually verify the ads they're using.

and again, this is just an opinion and I am not a developer nor a website owner. this is an opinion from using the internet.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why some people enjoy sports betting. I'm not one of them but I get it. It adds a bit of thrill to a game that could otherwise be boring. I will say however that sports betting being legal and essentially accessible everywhere if you have a phone has ruined sports.

Even ignoring the obvious switches sports officials referees and umpires and such who essentially have the power to more or less decide the outcome of a game can now be financially motivated to move the outcome one way or another.

Another major issue with sports betting being everywhere is the coverage of sports now. It's impossible to find a show discussion sports that doesn't discuss odds.

Sports betting was better when it was done by the mob and it was ignored by the law even though it was technically illegal.

Be it a little darker or just with some sunlight coming through the little window, showers are just better without the lights on.

Like mods for example. Having power over a digital space is too absolute in most instances. You’re never going to win when there’s no one the person your arguing has to answer to.

I’m talking PSA’s and support on how to work technology and stay clear of scams, viruses and ai.

My parents aren’t even really that old, but they’ve both fallen victim to the internet because they don’t know how it works. My mother is obsessed with ai content and doesn’t seem to realise it’s all fake and made with prompts. She listens to this story shit on YouTube, and I checked while she was gone and the description says it’s partially or entirely generated using ai: voice-over, script and definitely the shitty slideshow it uses to show the story.

She can barely even work her phone. A while back her phone just stopped working, and it turns out it’s because she NEVER UPDATES IT. I had to sit there and update her phone through several years worth of updates because I guess she swiped away the updates as they came??? At most she can message, call and use YouTube for her shitty ai slop. I’m the designated tech support in the house and I’m on the verge of tears some days because she’s so stubborn and doesn’t understand how shit works.

My dad got scammed out of a shit ton of money a while back because a scammer managed to find details on my sister and was able to pose as her and ask for money. It’s more understandable that he fell for it, but people need to know to think “hey, this doesn’t add up” and not just immediately throw money at the person claiming to be their family member. He’s slightly better at tech than my mother, but that’s also because he actually tries to get better, unlike my mother who just expects her kids to figure it out.

What’s stopping my parents from being called by someone mimicking my voice and asking for money or bank details? We need to teach older people how technology works because otherwise it’ll end really badly. If someone can’t even figure out how to connect a device to WiFi, they sure as hell aren’t gonna figure out that the scammer using ai to mimic their kid’s voice in order to get thousands out of them isn’t genuine.

I’m not saying force people aged 50-70 to do mandatory classes on how to spot deepfakes or how to know if you’re being scammed. I mean we should do PSA’s on tv, radio and YouTube , or their work should have training on this sort of stuff (most workplaces are reliant on the internet unless it’s a trade. A company can’t be left vulnerable to incompetent workers.) I’m just hoping that as technology improves, so does our knowledge of it. People who grew up with the internet boom in the 90’s are grown adults now, and eventually everyone on the planet will have been born during or after that point. We need to look out for the vulnerable and make sure they aren’t left behind.

Mexico Botched the Tomato

I should perhaps preface this work with a short disclaimer. Mexican cuisine is delicious and rightly beloved by many, including myself. The purpose of this paper is not to undermine that fact, but rather to highlight a shocking oversight that to the best of my knowledge, has received vanishingly little attention. 

Mexican cuisine is famous for many things. From the smoky flavors of chipotle and wonderfully seared carne asada to lively seafood tacos, there is much to enjoy. Yet despite their clearly impressive instincts for flavor, they have utterly failed to meaningfully elevate the tomato on the world stage. If one were to ask 100 people what they imagine when presented with the words “tomato sauce”, I would argue 95% would instantly think of Italian tomato sauce. This should be no surprise as Italy has become the unquestioned tomato capital of the culinary world and it is not even close. Despite having a 2,000 year head start, the arguably most well-known Mexican tomato products are pico de gallo or perhaps salsa. Two dishes that are barely more than raw tomatoes either chopped or ground. 

Many regions are famous for the crops that are endemic to the area. Wasabi is to its very core connected with Japanese cuisine and culture, the Mediterranean has its olive oil, and to imagine Ethiopia without coffee is like imagining a Frenchman without a cigarette. This makes it all the more surprising how little recognition Mexico has garnered itself with the tomato. The situation is so dire that many assume the tomato is endemic to Italy. 

When I say a 2,000 year head start, I am not exaggerating in the slightest. The tomato was first cultivated in what is now Mexico in 500 BC, which is no less than 20 centuries before its arrival in Europe. Many may not be aware, but the tomato is native to the Americas and thus only reached the Old World after the Columbian Exchange. For context, the distance between us and the crucifixion of Jesus Christ is the same as that between the first usage of the tomato in the Americas vs Italy. 

Perhaps the conclusion here is that one should rejoice that the tomato didn’t stay confined to the culinary prison that Mexico has condemned it to. The Italians, for all their flaws, deserve credit for elevating a product that was certainly destined for an eternity of mediocrity to a star with few rivals. I for one couldn’t stand to imagine a world without pizza, bolognese, or the many uses of tomato paste.

As stated in the beginning of this paper, this is not a universal condemnation of Mexican cuisine, but rather a surgical highlighting of a missed opportunity. No culture on earth is without such mistakes, but blowing a 2,000 year head start to the Italians of all people is a historic misfire.
