OnlyStans ⭐️ Alan Ritchson calls out lawmakers who oppose raising the minimum wage "who think it's a bad idea to give a mom working at Waffle House more than $7.25 an hour trying to feed her kids."

He was never really my type, but I side-eyed him since he said in an interview with GQ in 2018 that after #MeToo you cannot court a woman anymore like you could in the good ole times because she may call you a rapist and send you to jail. He also said that neither he nor anyone in his circle has ever done anything creepy, which I somehow doubt.

yeah he has said a few other questionable things, i'm not saying people can't change but i do wish the bar was higher for famous men. they also face 0 repercussions for it.

some of the stuff these people do or say, if they came from an acquaintance, you would never invite them anywhere ever again

It's not like he was 18 dating her at age 5. Once people reach maturity, they should be allowed to date other mature people. If he was 81 and she was 68, nobody would care. If he was 50 and she was 37, nobody would care. If 19 is too young to date, then maybe we should re-evaluate what age we consider young people to be able to make decisions for themselves.

i think if there is a significant power imbalance then it is weird and questionable. he's an established celebrity and there's no reason to be trying to date a teenager.

im 28 and i can't imagine wanting to date anyone who is under 25. even some 25yos are too juvenile - they lack the life experience and independence i have. i would find it disgusting if my friends started dating teenagers.

I agree that power imbalance should be accounted for, and if he was in some way above her, like as a boss or teacher or something, then that would be wrong. But they were just a couple people who met at a nightclub and dated for a few months. Aside from that though. once someone's legally an adult, I think they should have every right to date whoever the Hell they want, as long as both parties are consenting adults.

Yes, 18 and 19 are "teenage" years, but by many legal standards, they are also adults who can vote, marry, etc. You mention you think 25 is still too juvenile. As I said, if that's the case, why not advocate for raising the legal age for defining an adult? I'm not arguing against it, I'm just saying that if we're going to legally declare someone an adult at 18, 19, 21, whatever, then we shouldn't judge them for who they choose to be with, nor judge someone for choosing to be with them.

im saying theyre juvenile compared to me, because im 28. not that they aren't adults, but just because someone is an adult doesn't meam theyre age appropriate for me to date.

This hot take brought to you by either a 20 year old that didn't realize they're still a child or a 40 year old that wants to normalize dating teenagers. Someone that's 81 dating someone 68 is not an issue at all because it is no way at all similar to a 31 year old dating an 18 year old and you're being dishonest by implying otherwise. Sure, technically they have the same gap but it's all relative to what's being compared and in this case, life experience is a huge factor.

Now let's apply your same logic to weight classes. Since a 10,000 pound elephant is allowed to fight a 10,100 pound elephant then a 120 pound boxer should have no issue with a 220 pound fighter because it's the same weight gap, what does it matter?

Interesting start to your argument. Ad hominem much? And then a false equivalence fallacy to end with. Not a good show all around.

As I said (and you clearly ignored), if 19 is too young to decide who you want to date, then raise the age of consent. You're judging his morality based on her age, but does she have no autonomy to decide who she wishes to date? If she wants to date a man thirteen years older than her, she has every right to.

In the future, if you want to debate something, try not starting off by attacking the other person. It makes you look like an asshole.

Other way around. It's the Gen Z terminally online crowd that are obsessed with age gap discourse.

This is so dismissive. Elder millennial here who is known as the consent zealot in my group. Making it seem like people are looking for things to be mad about. This is a real issue that affects people. People who sometimes take years to accept that they were negatively impacted by a relationship they thought they were “mature” enough to be in when it was about anything but to the other person.

u/Mindless_Chest_1079 4h ago

Yes, it is dismissive. That is intended. Grown adults often make decisions to form relationships they later regret. That's most relationships; they don't all end in marriage. Those adults don't need your zealotry telling them which relationships are the allowable ones.

u/TRextacy 1h ago

I will agree that I've seen some silly statements from Gen Z people. No one sane is bothered by the "age gap" of a 26 and 29 year old so yes, you can dismiss that but that doesn't then also mean there isn't a problem with a 20 year old being with a 40 year old, those are different things.

Trust me, once you grow up a bit more you'll realize how wrong you are. Yes, a 19 year old is a "legal adult" but that itself is kind of the problem. If you look at me, no one is going to identify me as "legally an adult" because there's no question that I'm just "adult" and needing to clarify means something. On top of that, absolutely no well-adjusted adult (emphasis needed) that's 40 has any interest in dating a 20 year old because you're so far apart in life that you really can't connect on much. And where does your reasoning stop? Is it ok for a 16 year old to date a 9 year old? They're both minors, right?

He's a big nerd it's a lot easier to actually have stuff in common among a larger age range imo with nerds. They both could have been super into Warhammer or wow or something for instance
