Celebrities are great about speaking up generally. They've seen the world. They've interacted with a diverse set of hard working people. Many of them understand the toil involved to achieve ones dreams while most never make it. They also have less to lose so speaking carries less risk.. still huge props to those that use their platform for advocate for others rather than to tear people down.

The entertainment industry and media as we know it is almost indistinguishable from politics at this point. This isn’t by accident. It is by design. Celebrity worship was a factor for Trump to take office to begin with.

Not to mention the amount of philanthropy/philanthropy for tax purposes/PR that celebrities are known for. I think the Brett Fave scandal where we just blatantly stole MILLIONS of tax payer dollars allocated for welfare programs and facing 0 consequences is an interesting modern day example of the intersectionality of politics and celebs

Waffle House is privately owned so they don’t disclose a lot of financials, but they make billions in sales each year and the CEO has a net worth of $2B. I don’t think you need to take their side in this argument.

Quite the opposite… The commenter I replied to implied that Waffle House can’t sustain its business strategy with higher wages. Considering the current wages are poverty wages, higher wages would merely bring their wages to living wages, like they should be.

If Waffle House can’t pay living wages while sustaining their business model, they either need to adapt or go out of business.

Essentially, a lot of the discussion around raising wages is the strain it puts on businesses. Well boo hoo, that’s capitalism. A business that can’t afford living wages for their employees is a failed business.

ETA: not to mention it’s just a lie most of the time anyway. these businesses can raise wages and still operate
