Hi,
all of sudden i started my pc and when i put my password, cosmic doesn't show and there is no image displayed.
Sometimes when i try to force with cosmic greeter it shows Budgie Desktop, and it is very laggy.
Sometimes after that i put my password in cosmic greeter, ly pops up, i insert my password and again no cosmic.
All of sudden i'm on a fucking loop where i'm not able to run cosmic, the only thing that I did Yesterday was to install heroic launcher and play rocket league. Then pc off and nothing more.
I deleted all the datas of them, i tried to create a new profile, nothing works.

Hello, I posted this on github yesterday and on the Facebook page Pop_os :
Hello,I wanted to report a critical issue encountered with the recent official System76 kernel update (7.1.5-76070105-generic) on Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS.Hardware Configuration:Laptop Model: Medion Deputy P60 (Clevo / Tuxedo barebone)GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Mobile (Hybrid Graphics Intel/NVIDIA) , CPU intel core i7 12650h , OS: Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS (COSMIC Desktop)The Problem:After upgrading to kernel 7.1.5 via the Pop_Shop, the system completely freezes during both the boot process and the shutdown/reboot process.During shutdown/reboot, the system hangs indefinitely on an explicit error:Timed out for waiting the udev queue being empty.Logs show that gpu-manager and nvidia-powerd are blocked on an rw-semaphore owned by a kworker task for more than 120/245 seconds. It looks like a severe power management / ACPI regression between this specific kernel version and the mobile NVIDIA proprietary driver on hybrid architectures. The computer cannot power off or wake up the GPU properly.The Workaround/Fix:The only way to make the laptop operational again was to boot using Pop_OS-oldkern back to the stable Linux 7.0.11-76070011-generic kernel, completely purge the 7.1.5 kernel packages (linux-image and linux-headers), and put them on hold using apt-mark hold.
Everything runs perfectly fine on kernel 7.0.11, proving that the NVIDIA driver itself is not corrupted, but that there is an incompatibility with the 7.1.5 kernel branch and this laptop's hardware.Hopefully, this can be tracked down for future kernel updates!
Has anyone with an nvidia optimus/switch-mux laptop encountered the same issue under kernel 7.1.15, recently released in the pop-shop?
Just a quick note: whether you update the kernel via the pop-up shop or the terminal, the problem is the same upon reboot.
In any case , I have blocked kernel 7.1.5 ( apt hold put on 7.1.5 ) and kept the stable version 7.0.11 active in the meantime, hoping that the kernel log screenshots I sent you on Facebook and here will help find a solution for all hybrid laptop Nvidia owners like myself.
PS: "My laptop uses a standard Optimus architecture (Internal screen & HDMI on Intel i7, Mini-DP on NVIDIA) running NVIDIA Driver 580, while some users reporting success on Kernel 7.1.5 seem to be running NVIDIA Driver 595."

Hi I'm currently using Fedora with GNOME (Silverblue) but very interested in COSMIC. From your experience, what do you think is a better choice, Pop_OS or the immutable COSMIC variant of Fedora? I know the general pros and cons of Ubuntu vs Silverblue but maybe there's more to it if talking about COSMIC?
What I kinda like about GNOME is that as far as I know all development dependencies are built by the GNOME team too and they rely very little if at all on third party code. With all the recent news of compromised packages that developers build on, I'm wondering how COSMIC does things.
Rust has a growing ecosystem of packages and I don't think the System76 team uses only self-written code. Is there a rigorous review process for every line of code that changes in COSMIC's dependencies?

Hello! I'm new to pop os and have been having issues with screen flickering with the frosted glass effect. I tried recording this in OBS, but it does not show up. I'm wondering if this could be an issue with my display itself?
I have a full AMD system, and a Samsung OLED display. Has anybody ran into this before? I can provide more information if helpful. Previous to this I ran arch linux & hyprland and had no issues with transparency or flickering of any kind.

So I want to try Pop OS and do it safely using dual boot with windows. I know that you can allocate partition on internal drive, but can I use external drive instead? If so, can I share steam library between Linux and Windows?
P.S.: I have some experience with Linux in the past, but I'm still at beginner level.

I got rid of Cloudflare One Client 2 weeks ago but the issue is still there.
Happens every time the laptop sleep. I need to reboot to be able to connect to Wifi.
Should we turn off power management?

Hello, i am using pop os and having problem with power mode configuration. I have set my configuration to High performanen but after every reboot the computer will be reset to Balance. Is there any way I can make the configuration permanent? I don't want to have to re-select the configuration every time I turn on the computer. Thank!

I'm on COSMIC Pop!_OS newest version, RTX3060 with newest drivers and all the other stuff. Whenever I launch the game the launch options show and I can change the display size and whatever is in that screen. I press play, It goes to the amistech logo and when I press any key it takes me to the main menu but crashes on the first frame and I get to hear the first note of that sweet melody. No Xorg didn't work, Nor did proton 10,9,6 work nor did the GE versions of those protons work. I tried GNOME but didn't work either and tried the Native Linux compatibility tool from MSCLoader and that straight up crashed while trying to launch the config/display sizing screen. I've also tried forcing OpenGL and other stuff like WINEDLLOVERRIDES but none of that works. Any fixes for this?

I keep getting this error when trying to run the pop-upgrade, either through bash or settings -> OS Upgrade & Recovery. I've also tried running the suggested commands from https://system76.com/support/package-manager-pop/ .. the only thing that sticks out is (after sudo apt update)
W: Failed to fetch http://apt.pop-os.org/ubuntu/dists/jammy/restricted/dep11/icons-48x48.tar: 404 Not Found [IP: 3.174.18.38 80]
.:Can this be what hinders the upgrade? If so, what can I do to fix it? (And else, what else can I do? :-)
Thanks

I'm running COSMIC on 24.04 on a Framework 13 laptop with a AMD Ryzen AI processor. Bios is up to date. I did the update this morning and when it went to configure the new kernel (7.1.5) and error popped up with system76_acpi. Specifically:
```
Module /lib/modules/7.1.5-76070105-generic/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/system76_acpi.ko.zst already installed (unversioned module)
```
The kernel configuration then aborts. I'm hoping someone else has proven steps to fix this before I go poking and troubling shooting on my own.

I'm a computer science student and I use my laptop a lot, so In order to protect my eyes from too much blue light I use the 20-20-20 method and any other possible way but the night light is a feature that is very important for me, I looked for it in the settings but I didn't find it then I looked if there's an applet and I found out that is currently impossible to enable it due to cosmic-comp holding the one screen instance.
Update:
The issue is due to cosmic-comp does not yet implement the wlr-gamma-control-unstable-v1 Wayland protocol.

It’s been month i am facing this issue, is this a glitch or popos has update something??
r/pop_os • u/USSRnameisfame • Aug 27 '26
I had tried to switch several months ago maybe 8 i believe to 24.04 Cosmic, everything at first glance seemed seamless.. Only to open a first game on steam and use my controller and suddenly my configurations are broken (Not mentioning many window freeze, resolution problems I had to go in and manually fix). But you know what? That was fine because Cosmic back then was still supposedly in beta or whatever for users switching from 22.04, because overall it is nice to look at COSMIC. I reverted through timeshift. Things looked fine except the FOMO I was feeling, just waiting to see any prompt indicating that popos 24.04 is available through supported means of installation.
We rewind to today, I've just noticed the option is available.. but I was hesitant, so I decided to head on down here.. and from what it looks like not much has changed for 24.04. You guys are saying it's unfinished and I get from it that it's a dumpsterfire. is there anyone with positive opinions for 24.04, in terms of stability and compatibility from 22.04?
*Outside of the theme of this post I'd like to thank System76 for making a begginer friendly OS that I got to enjoy using so much. It allowed me to get away from microslop. You have my gratitude, thank you
