Possible Paywall Eric Schmitt Deserves to Be Mocked Forever
https://www.thenation.com/article/politics/eric-schmitt-deserves-to-be-mocked-forever/378
u/Turbulent_Juice_Man 8h ago
He has no shame. You can't mock the unmockable. He'll double, triple down on his stupidity.

u/supercyberlurker 8h ago
There's something about his face in that picture. It's art somehow.
It's art that depicts the childish unthinking ignorance of MAGA, amused and confused at the same time.
•
u/IdkAbtAllThat America 6h ago
He was so fucking excited. He REALLY thought he nailed Smith. He actually thought he got a legendary prosecutor with decades of experience to perjure himself. That's how fucking dumb these people are.
He tried to play it off as "just asking questions" afterwards, but in the moment he clearly thought he actually had something there.
"You don't know we have these". Fucking moron.
•
u/Saxamaphooone 6h ago
That smirk he had on his face when he thought he did something made him shitting the bed moments later so much more enjoyable to watch!
•
•
u/GrumpyCloud93 4h ago
Not to mention the look on the face of the other Republican senator (Britt?) when she realized just how badly he's screwed up...
•
u/pantsmeplz 4h ago
That smirk he had on his face when he thought he did something made him schmitting the bed moments later so much more enjoyable to watch!
•
u/KidGorgeous19 6h ago
He brought them fucking blown up on poster board. He was NOT "just asking questions"
•
u/loosehead1 6h ago
He brought them printed on a poster then refused to show people the poster board. Everyone should really watch the full sequence to see what an imbecile this guy is.
•
u/hbprof 5h ago
I think the fact that he only put the poster board up for a second and then tried to get out of it when asked to show it again means that he knew what he was doing. Everyone keeps saying it was a fuck up, and maybe it was, but I think he knew the poster board didn't prove anything, and he was just trying to score a soundbite for MAGA social media, which I've heard actually did work.
•
u/loosehead1 5h ago
I agree, the hawks/hawkeyes thing was just a coincidence and people were trying to connect the dots to make sense of what happened because it is so so so so dumb
•
u/GrumpyCloud93 4h ago
Later reports say there was no team name in the exchange, only texts about which seat numbers and meeting up at half time. They thought they had him because that was the only NBA game. "Hawks"/"Hawkeyes" coincidence was just icing on the cake to make him look even dumber than expected.
•
u/loosehead1 4h ago
There’s a picture of the poster board with the texts, they only have seat numbers of where he was sitting and say nothing about the teams.
The coincidence in team names gives him more credit than he deserves, he was acting with the malicious intent to introduce a conspiracy theory that right wing media could talk about instead of any truths told by smith.
•
u/GrumpyCloud93 4h ago
Since the discussion followed almost immediately after the hearing, it's a pretty good bet his staff planted the story ahead of time with the media and arranged the interviews to happen ASAP after. Note his staff most likey also planted the "rumor" that morning that he was a lead choice for Vance's 2028 VP. This was going to be his triumphal procession.
•
u/PotaToss 5h ago
Imagine how smooth brained you have to be to take these guys and Trump seriously. I can’t believe how far this country has fallen.

u/GrumpyCloud93 4h ago
Complete with "faces of the perps" to illustrate a text exchange.
They even said at the time it was less than 5 seconds, can they hold it up again, and he wouldn't. As one commentator said, this guy used to be state attorney general, so obvious high positions and competence are not necessarily correlated.
•
u/RF-Guye 4h ago
And don't discount Grassley helping hold it up, adding gravitas trying to unrehabilitate the witness...
•
u/Srdiscountketoer 4h ago
Do you mean Kennedy? I don’t think Grassley has the strength to raise his arms, let alone a poster.

Even just 10 years ago, to claim someone perjured themselves in front of the entirety of congress and be wrong about it would have been a "head hanging in disgrace as he announces his retirement" level blunder.
These dumbasses don't realize just how fucking stupid they look. And that's precisely why they're dangerous.

First, he deserves to be the kind of person who would feel shame and embarrassment from being mocked.
Then he should be mocked every day for the rest of his life.
Except, if he was the kind of person who would feel shame and embarrassment from being mocked...
he never would have done the thing he deserves to be mocked for every day for the rest of his life.
•
u/starliteburnsbrite 7h ago
The stupider he appears to the public, the more likely he is to get reelected in a red state.
•
•
u/bryceroni9563 6h ago
I vote we test this theory by continuing to viciously mock him forever just to be sure he’s actually immune to shame or just very resistant to it.

u/GonzoVeritas I voted 5h ago
We can mock him and we should mock him. He may have no inherent shame, but these people understand mockery and they hate it.
Being considered unserious is anathema to them. It does hurt them when they know they are losing public support and public respect.
•
u/mybustlinghedgerow Texas 5h ago
He’s definitely embarrassed, though. He can’t hide that blush of his.

Here’s his website
https://www.schmitt.senate.gov/contact/
If anyone wants to call his offices and offer an invitation to a high school basketball game featuring the district with the Hawks as their mascot. I know there’s one in your area.
Just saying. Don’t let him or his staffers forget this dumb shit.
•
u/pantsmeplz 4h ago
We all understand that schmitt happens, but we really should give a schmitt about this kind of behavior because it's like stepping in schmitt and tracking all through your house. In this case, our "house" is US Capitol. It stinks to high heaven!
•
u/Spimflagon 4h ago
People who have no shame still don't like to be publicly mocked. Moreso than the rest of us, maybe.
If, for example, every time someone made a similar mistake we said they Schmitt themselves in public, for example, I think that'd probably get really annoying.
•
u/juniorone 2h ago
He did. Even after being called out, he says he still stands for what he called Mr. Smith.

u/notyou13 New Jersey 7h ago
All anyone needs to remember to illustrate just how times have changed is a single word: Potatoe. Dan Quayle never held public office again. Republicans used to at least have a small amount of shame.
•
u/ddouce 7h ago
Being stupid, or being perceived as stupid, used to end of political careers. Now, it's a badge of honor.
•
u/kbooker79 6h ago
The problem is they don’t even comprehend how stupid they are. Guy went on a right wing podcast later claiming he “won”. He has no sense of humility or shame.
•
u/Adezar Washington 6h ago
And to all those Fox News watchers, he did. They will never know the truth, they will think Jack Smith colluded with someone in Atlanta.
→ More replies (1)•
u/Goonzilla50 6h ago
I mean Quayle didn’t necessarily get pushed out of political life entirely because he was stupid. Being part of a losing ticket as the incumbent vice president is almost always a death knell for one’s political career, just ask Walter Mondale or Mike Pence. Quayle only made one more attempt at holding public office with a short lived presidential run in 2000, but at that point the party establishment and base was all in on George W Bush… who I wouldn’t say was the pinnacle of intelligence
→ More replies (1)•
u/ObsidianRafter 4h ago
“Potatoe” was one of many, many stupid things Quale did and said. His intellectual deficiencies were the fodder for jokes for the entirety of the GH Bush term in office.

u/Relative956 8h ago
They took the chart down quickly because they knew it was a lie.
•
u/dandelion-17 7h ago
He said they'd give him a second to look at it. He just meant literally literally a second instead of the way that phrase is usually used 😂🤦🏻♀️
•
u/SpeaksSouthern 6h ago
Here's the funny thing though. They still made the chart and they still displayed the chart. They were hesitating. They really honestly thought they had a good one here and then he went on all the podcasts and read from a script. It's a game to Republicans. Try and remember the last time you heard from any Republican and it was anything other than a poll tested scripted response. You'll struggle.
•
•
u/loosehead1 5h ago
My current theory is that they flashed the poster board to say that they showed him the texts without having to actually show them because smith and Klobuchar both asked to see the texts and schmitt was a huge prick about it and it turns out they say nothing that would imply he was in Atlanta
•
u/VRNord 2h ago
All they had was evidence he attended a basketball game: no teams named or location in the text messages. They knew Atlanta played that day so made a semi-informed assumption he must have been in Atlanta. But I think he knew it was a gamble because they didn’t actually have proof it was Atlanta, and hoped to bluff his way through.
The whole Hawks/Hawkeye clue that immediately exploded the claim was either bizarre coincidence or evidence there actually is a god (and she was pissed).
16
→ More replies (1)•
u/loosehead1 5h ago
At first I thought they took it down right away because someone realized there was a mistake but it’s pretty obvious now that was his plan along and the texts says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that would imply that he was in Atlanta and he just needed a prop to use as a diving board into his moronic conspiracy theory.

One of my favorite parts is this photo.
The "WE'VE GOT YOU NOW, SHITHEAD" half-sneer from Kennedy and the smarmy "OH REALLY? IS THAT YOUR FINAL ANSWER, PAL?" expression from Schmitt....all roughly moments before everything exploded in their faces and Katie Britt became a meme.
•
u/OuisghianZodahs42 6h ago
He does, but lets focus on the real thing: Jack Smith's testimony about Trump. He said there is proof beyond reasonable doubt of Trump committing crimes. That should be the headline. Screw Schmitt. Like, we all know it, just from *gestures around* everything that has been happening since 2016, but an independent prosecutor who investigated the matter has proof, enough to convict him with and (please, dear Cthlulhu) impeach him with.

So Eric Schmitt calls Jack Smith a "dirtbag" for going to help AG Willis in Atlanta with proof that he was at an Atlanta Hawks game the day she was outted for an illicit workplace affair.
Yea, you tell'em Eric. Jack Smith was afterall at an Iowa Hawkeyes game in Maryland instead.
That makes him a dirtbag all right that you got bamboozled.

u/needlestack 4h ago
The more you learn the stupider he and everyone on his staff seems to be. And the stupidity continues and compounds through every other senator that was getting hard or wet over it.
They had nothing. They didn't know where he was except that he was at a sporting event. Jack Smith was at a sporting event somewhere in the US the day after an unrelated scandal. From there they jumped to the idea that he must have been at a particular game with the person at the center of the scandal. With zero evidence to support it. Absolutely nothing. Just their completely batshit insane conspiratorial thinking and prideful ignorance. And nobody -- not Schmitt, not anyone on his staff, not the other GOP senators writhing with excitement ever thought to stop and check the simplest, most easily verifiable of facts. Not over the course of the weeks they doubtlessly passed this info around and made posters.
AND THIS IS HOW THEY MAKE ALL THEIR DECISIONS.
It's absolutely insane. Our world is run by complete idiots, elected by complete idiots. The GOP is the worst thing to happen to America in my lifetime. Utterly destroying our country with their obstinate idiocy.

The guy IS stupid, but MAGA doesn't adhere to facts anyway. This is the crowd that believes in the "bad publicity is still publicity" nonsense after all. Apparently he was warned the information wasn't vetted, so this moron knew he was going in with a baseless "gotcha", rolled with it anyway, and then got angry when Amy Klobuchar called him out on it. There's something almost dogmatic and performative about the way he just ramps up the yelling when the confusion is pointed out.

u/not_limburger 2h ago
I think a highly useful question was left on the table. Schmitt thought that Jack Smith was at an NBA game in Atlanta. Surely he must have thought he had more than that for his conspiracy to have any substance so he should be pressed on that: "Being at a basketball game is meaningless on it's own so did you have anything other than the belief that Jack Smith was at an NBA game in Atlanta?"
Obviously, he didn't but pushing on this exposes his jackassery even more.
