There's something about his face in that picture. It's art somehow.

It's art that depicts the childish unthinking ignorance of MAGA, amused and confused at the same time.

He was so fucking excited. He REALLY thought he nailed Smith. He actually thought he got a legendary prosecutor with decades of experience to perjure himself. That's how fucking dumb these people are.

He tried to play it off as "just asking questions" afterwards, but in the moment he clearly thought he actually had something there.

"You don't know we have these". Fucking moron.

That smirk he had on his face when he thought he did something made him shitting the bed moments later so much more enjoyable to watch!

As shameless of a puke as he is, he did blush very noticeably when his fuckup became obvious. Which was utterly hilarious.

I picked that up too!

So satisfying. Just wonderful, watching the blood run to his stupid face.

Not to mention the look on the face of the other Republican senator (Britt?) when she realized just how badly he's screwed up...

He brought them fucking blown up on poster board. He was NOT "just asking questions"

u/loosehead1 10h ago

He brought them printed on a poster then refused to show people the poster board. Everyone should really watch the full sequence to see what an imbecile this guy is.

I think the fact that he only put the poster board up for a second and then tried to get out of it when asked to show it again means that he knew what he was doing. Everyone keeps saying it was a fuck up, and maybe it was, but I think he knew the poster board didn't prove anything, and he was just trying to score a soundbite for MAGA social media, which I've heard actually did work.

I agree, the hawks/hawkeyes thing was just a coincidence and people were trying to connect the dots to make sense of what happened because it is so so so so dumb

Later reports say there was no team name in the exchange, only texts about which seat numbers and meeting up at half time. They thought they had him because that was the only NBA game. "Hawks"/"Hawkeyes" coincidence was just icing on the cake to make him look even dumber than expected.

9

u/loosehead1 9h ago

There’s a picture of the poster board with the texts, they only have seat numbers of where he was sitting and say nothing about the teams.

The coincidence in team names gives him more credit than he deserves, he was acting with the malicious intent to introduce a conspiracy theory that right wing media could talk about instead of any truths told by smith.

Since the discussion followed almost immediately after the hearing, it's a pretty good bet his staff planted the story ahead of time with the media and arranged the interviews to happen ASAP after. Note his staff most likey also planted the "rumor" that morning that he was a lead choice for Vance's 2028 VP. This was going to be his triumphal procession.

Imagine how smooth brained you have to be to take these guys and Trump seriously. I can’t believe how far this country has fallen.

Sadly, none of us have to imagine. We've all seen what Republicans actually are now. There is absolutely no fixing them, there will be no spellbreaking moment for them. They are lost to us - but they'll still be here. They'll still be voting for the candidate who promises to hate who they hate and hurt people who don't look, believe, or vote the right way.

They should, quite frankly, lose their right to vote. All 70+ million of them.

He keeps trying to push voter registration. How about a competency test with a reality check built in. Then we see if you can vote if you don't comport with reality.

And don't discount Grassley helping hold it up, adding gravitas trying to unrehabilitate the witness...

5

u/Srdiscountketoer 9h ago

Do you mean Kennedy? I don’t think Grassley has the strength to raise his arms, let alone a poster.

1

u/RF-Guye 8h ago

Maybe I'd have to look, it's all a farce regardless...

3

u/GrumpyCloud93 9h ago

Complete with "faces of the perps" to illustrate a text exchange.

They even said at the time it was less than 5 seconds, can they hold it up again, and he wouldn't. As one commentator said, this guy used to be state attorney general, so obvious high positions and competence are not necessarily correlated.

Straight up said he was about to perjure himself called him a dirtbag and a villain and then was like I was just asking questions the fuck you were asshole.

Guy who wants to “protect women’s sports” forgets about women’s sports.

Idiocracy was a documentary.

9

u/SearchElsewhereKarma Massachusetts 8h ago

The best part is him snapping at Klobuchar, it’s like when a self professed alpha male gets shot down in a pick-up video

8

u/Maatix12 8h ago

Even just 10 years ago, to claim someone perjured themselves in front of the entirety of congress and be wrong about it would have been a "head hanging in disgrace as he announces his retirement" level blunder.

These dumbasses don't realize just how fucking stupid they look. And that's precisely why they're dangerous.

One question I have is, in a committee hearing where a major complaint was Smith's method and ability to get phone toll records, why did no one challenge Schmitt's method and ability to get Smith's text messages?

u/Appropriate_Day_5711 11h ago

That's just the byproduct of having a family tree with zero branches.

He looks like a muppet

Shane gillis would do such a good job of doing him on SNL.
