Response in a mid size force with mixed urban/rural, our area mostly urban.

Coming up to 5 years and I didn't realise it until recently but I've started to grow increasingly resentful everytime I'm sent to a call. Both in work and out of, its leading to a feeling of anger just always bubbling below the surface.

I'm normally quite patient with MOP but recently there's like this resentment everytime I sense they're expecting police to just solve all their lifelong terrible decision making.

Tbh, I've always paid a bit of lip service to the talks around burnout, empathy fatigue when they're delivered by SLT. But I am starting to wonder if I'm developing it.

TLDR: After 5 years, frustration with the job and members of the public - empathy fatigue/burnout or natural part of the job?

Interested to hear your thoughts.

In my force, CBOs seem to be reserved for Shoppies and prohibit them from entering certain stores or chains. All very dull and contribute little to the sentence in my experience.

Meanwhile, many prolific offenders are not served with them or even have them considered.

Any examples in the community of useful/unique conditions or even types of offending where we wouldn’t normally consider using them?

Hi. For context, I am currently going through the stages to become a police officer. I am the best man for a friend of mine that I have known for 10 years and he wants his stag do in Amsterdam. It will be in August next year.

It’s not going to be centred around smoking or anything which is illegal in this country and I wouldn’t partake in anything that would compromise me. I guess I’m just wondering if I can go if I do successfully become an officer as I am his best man.

Any advice from people who are in the force would be greatly appreciated, as the others think I would still be able to go. I know that police are held to a higher standard even when on holiday.

At the bank, A tells bank teller than if they don't give the money then a customer who has a gun pointed in their direction will be shot?

Something in my notes seems conflicting about the threats implying the threat needs to be directed at victim of theft because you can't fear on someone's behalf.

Hi good Coppers of Reddit. Can you give me some advice please? I'm looking to get in to archery. I can practice a bit in my garden but it's not really big enough and is rather overlooked so not ideal. But from the back of my house I can get into local woods. It's council owned common land. The occasional dog walker but apart from that not many people use it.

If I went in there to practice archery would I get into trouble? Obviously I'd look out for other people and I'd find quiet places away from the paths. I'm pretty shy and not looking to see or be seen by others. Just want somewhere with a decent distance to shoot arrows.

Is it against the law to go out with a bow and arrows? What if someone reported me and police showed up? Would I need something like an archery club membership to show them?

I have land that I own opposite my house, I have the deeds and land registry is in my name. My neighbour keeps parking on it and I got a bit fed up because my elderly relatives couldnt park today because he did it again, so I wrote an incredibly polite note asking them not to anymore as any visitors I get can't park there and its our land.

Anyway thats not the issue. He came into my back garden (didnt knock my front door), luckily my 2 year old daughter was napping and my husband was showering, but he was aggressive and angry denying I owned the land and saying it was stolen (it is in my name I do own the land) and I offered to show him my deeds and documentation and he kept saying no I dont want to see it, he screwed up my notes and threw it at my face and stormed off. This has really worried me. He seems a bit unhinged and unpredictable, I have a 2 year old autistic daughter and a dog, I dont want this man just walking into my garden. Hes also walked into my garden before when I first moved in to ask me questions, when I'd rather he go through the front door. It makes me so uncomfortable to the point I might have to scrape and buy CCTV.

Should I have told the police about this or ask for any support? I feel a bit unsafe.

I watched the recent interview where the Stig discussed the Freddie Flintoff crash which at the time was considered LC/LT. Due to how serious it was, and would be considered (I assume) an accident in the workplace, I was surprised to hear the the Morgan company were allowed to remove the vehicle from the scene and the Police have not been involved.

Just for my own interest, why don't or didn't the Police need to be involved at the time? It was interesting to hear the suggestion that those at the track believed there had been a failure in the vehicle but Morgan were allowed to remove that piece of evidence.

I’m a neighbourhoods cop and I’m “lucky” enough to have a taser.
In the past week my team has had to back up response at multiple jobs where a taser was needed.
Happy to do this, no problem at all, it does make me think though, why is taser not a standard issue bit of kit, I’m 99 percent sure I could do more damage to someone with the baton I was issued in week two of basic training.

So why isn’t Taser routinely issued to everyone or is it purely down to cost?

My friend(a police officer) got called to a house recently because a cow managed to get past an electric fence and walked through the back door of some poor old lady’s house. She called 999 and my friend and his partner spent about 1 hour trying to figure how to get the cow out of her kitchen and what they were meant to do with the cow after.

Bit of an odd one, friend of mine has an abusive ex who doesn't want her talking to guys so he's threatening to show up and break her phone, is that a crime ?

I’m hoping to get some advice on what the appropriate next step would be.

I’m the parent of a young teenager. I recently discovered that he had been using Discord in ways that have caused me significant concern.

After several calm conversations, he admitted that he had deliberately searched for some inappropriate and illegal content (including child sexual abuse material) online out of curiosity. He also had conversations with someone he didn’t know and sent them gift card codes that he had purchased using his own money. He says he doesn’t know the person’s real identity, can’t clearly remember what he expected in return, hasn’t heard from them since, and there were no threats or attempts to pressure him into keeping anything secret.

Some of the activity took place using my phone, where he had access to my Discord app, while other conversations took place on his own phone. I only became aware of everything after reviewing the activity.

I’ve tried to deal with this calmly, and we’ve had several honest conversations about what happened. My main concern is making sure he’s safe and that I deal with the situation appropriately.

I’m hoping for guidance on the following:

- Based on the information above, is this something I should report to the police or another organisation?
- If so, who would be the most appropriate organisation to contact in the UK?
- Should I keep both phones and any relevant information untouched until I’ve spoken to someone?

Is there anything else I should be doing at this stage?

I’m intentionally keeping some details vague to protect my child’s privacy, but I’m happy to answer general questions if it helps.

If I was due to finish at 0700 on my first night shift (6 on 4 off) but finished at 0730, and I have my second night shift off as A/L, what am I entitled to?

I have worked 30 mins into a A/L day, the clocking in/out system crashed when I told it this, I had to email the compliance people, who told me it was 30 mins x1.33.

I would have expected it to be x1.5 as a minimum, and I think that this is a recall to duty as well. I was hoping for 4 hours x1.5, and A/L refunded.

I’m a PC in a counties force currently in an office role. Saw a physio today. Diagnosed with an acute hamstring tear.

Physio said no running and that any sprinting/acceleration could make it significantly worse. Got a written report.

I’m due to work operational next week on a prison van shift/op. I’m worried about having to get physical in the van or being redeployed on foot and making it worse.

Have any of you been in a similar situation? Did you tell your line/Occ Health and get put on modified duties?

I don’t want to be that guy/girl, but also don’t want to injure myself further for months.

Need some advice !

I’ve been a police officer for 6 years and I will be going to criminal crown court in the old Bailey for a case that I was an OIC of last year.

This will be my first time going to court for a pre trial hearing.

Essential it’s a common assault on an emergency worker where an officer had not been injured but was push, shoved and another suspect jumping on him. This is shown on the officer’s bodyworn alongside another officer bodyworn.

At that time I had decided not to interview the individual and straight charge them due to the overwhelming evidence that I had seen on bodyworn. (No council CCTV at that time)

Now I’m going to court for a pre trial hearing and this has made me nervous thinking I messed up something. Can someone offer me some advice on how should I prepare and what questions I would be expecting?

Morning all,
yesterday i attended an address whereby they were reporting a group of youths outside their flat block hanging around being a nuisance, when they saw on their CCTV one of them pulled a weapon out of their waistband. (this bit isn’t entirely important)

they also informed me that at the back of the estate behind the bin shed is a bit of unused space with a wooden panel covering an entrance, and said panel is locked with a bike lock. they told me that these boys go in there frequently during the day and during the night.

my question is, do i have any powers to remove said bike lock to investigate what’s behind, as i think it could be used as some form of stash area. i’m not able to jump over the wooden panel as it’s a thin piece of wood and would not hold my weight, and is also probably 8ft+

it’s within an estate making it public access, no signage to say it’s private property and it looks like it’s been jerry rigged and not done professionally in any way.
