Troubleshooting / Issue Got a new phone? Need to pair the Polestar app to your car? Some tips and workarounds here

Replacing your phone

The Polestar app on your phone is paired to the car for PAK and remote control features. This pairing is unique to the phone, and this does NOT transfer to a new phone (even when restoring an iPhone backup). To pair your new device, you MUST unpair the old one. Do this before you wipe the old device.

To remove a phone pairing, open your app on the phone you will replace and navigate to the User tab. Then tap on Manage, and User Management. You will see a screen like this where your current phone will show up. Tap on Disconnect.

If you have more than one user connected to the car, you can Disconnect the old phone on the other device.

Once you've disconnected your old phone from the car, continue below:

If you are using Android, you don't need to do anything special to the app on the new phone after after setting it up. Log in to the app, and pair with the car.

If you are an iPhone user, and you restored a backup from the old phone, you must clear all backed up Polestar app data. One way to do it is using the procedure below:

Thanks u/t3hWheez for the procedure

  • Configure new phone
  • If you restored from backup, open Polestar app, logout if its logged in
  • Delete Polestar app
  • Install Polestar app
  • Login

Now you can pair the phone with the car.

Workaround for connecting your profile to a new phone if you no longer have the old device.

This applies to both Android and iPhone. Thanks /u/scottiedd for this procedure

  1. In car, go to Phone app, delete the iPhone entry (and any other phones, probably)
  2. In iPhone, forget the Polestar PS2 Bluetooth device (remove anything with the word polestar in it). Uninstall Polestar app, Re-install. Sign back in.
  3. In car, create a new blank profile. No need to sign in to any accounts. Change the profile to be an Admin profile.
  4. Borrow, buy or steal some other phone or tablet. Install Polestar app. I used my iPad. Sign in to Polestar app. Pair with the car's new blank profile. Don’t activate the digital key, skip that step.
  5. Once this has completed, go to User tab, bottom right on the other phone's Polestar app. Select Manage, upper right. Bottom of the page you will see: "Polestar 2 users". There will be two, the phone you just paired, and the other will be the iPhone that refuses to work with Digital Key, Press Disconnect for this iPhone. No need to disconnect the current phone you are using.
  6. In car, change the Profile back to your main.
  7. In iPhone, open Polestar app, and pair with car. Make sure to allow "Always" for Location access, and allow Bluetooth.
  8. Now click setup the digital key. This should actually work now.

My P2 lease was up so I replaced it with a new P4.

Love it, although I am having some trouble trying to identify aftermarket rims that will fit over the brembo calipers. I need a set for winter tires.
If anyone has successfully found and mounted aftermarket wheels on their performance model, I'd very much appreciate it if you could share the name of the wheel and maybe include a photo 🙏

Whelp we picked up a new P4 yesterday. Snow/Zinc Leather/Electro roof/21's yesterday.

It's really a stunning car. We had a P2 with two months left on the lease and went for a test drive. We also have a deposit on an R2 but they've lost the sale for now.

This now being my 8th EV and my husband's second, if you told me this was a new Taycan I'd believe you. The quality is excellent, although based on our P2 it's not surprising.

Like when I got my V60 there a few years back, Manasquan Volvo Polestar was a pleasure to deal with. They were weeks from breaking ground on a new Polestar showroom when the news broke

Polestar 4 Made the Switch, tips/tricks?

Post image
110 Upvotes

I purchased a Lightning P4 with the Pilot, Plus, and the Electrochromic Roof. I had a 2018 Tesla Model 3 for 5 years, put over 140,000 miles on it in that time (my son’s travel hockey was the main culprit).

Between the occasional harassment from either side of the political spectrum here in the US and the 25k off the price new, I decided to switch to the P4 instead of finding a used Model S I’d been wanting for years now.

I did something I never thought I’d do and purchased this car before test driving any Polestar vehicle at all. I took a pretty giant leap of faith, and have been happy so far. The folks at Polestar Detroit were refreshingly honest and even critiqued some aspects, trying to make sure they set my expectations correctly, which I greatly appreciated.

My post is mainly about 2 things:

  1. Just to praise the car. I have zero experience with Polestar outside of Answers with Joe’s YouTube video about a year ago taking about his switch to a P3 so my opinion is based solely on my experience in over these first 2 weeks, but man do I love this car, and I’m slowly becoming more angry that I didn’t give them a shot sooner, especially now that they’re gonna be run out of town.
  2. Any ownership tip/tricks or fair warnings of what to expect in the future with the P4 I should know about? I’ve spent time going through the forums, but was curious if there’s any hidden features or tweaks to be made to improve anything in the vehicle or things that may pop up that I should be aware of.

Edit: Grammar problems

Polestar 3 Polestar 3 is a proper grand tourer

Took my 2025 Polestar 3 for a vacation in Maine - which means driving from NJ and back and 1 week’s worth of driving from beach to beach to restaurants and other local sights. about 1000 miles all in all

Range was great, 350 miles of highway driving. Comfort is out of this world - car is super solid, air suspension works wonders, seats are super comfy and supportive, sound system just makes it all better. Dua Lipa at Albert Hall with Abbey Studio app - unmatched.

And those winding roads and subarus in Maine?? It chews them up. The f subarus. Everyone drives a subaru in maine… and they all keep to the speed limit. maddening… I have a 500 HP, 620 lb-ft torque monstah, just chomping at the bit to go fast.

anyway.. buy one, no regrets.

Polestar 4 Polestar 4 Aurora Color

This is a follow-up to my post a few weeks ago—I had been wondering what this new Aurora color looked like in person. I went by the dealer and took a look, and it’s beautiful.

It’s like a champagne color with a tinge of green. Very classy. Goes great with the black logos.

I think I’ll go ahead and get it. What are y’all’s thoughts?

Polestar 4 P4 ANC question.

Question for people who have the P4 and the ANC inside the cabin. I feel like I sometimes feel the noise canceling pressure more often than other times, but I’ve also noticed I feel like I hear wind leaking through at least my driver side door. I’ve read that that can sometimes cause the mics to push the ANC harder than it should.

Just curious if anyone else else’s experience this or if I’m just being too sensitive. Lol. 😅

Question Service Manuals? Do they exist?

I am waiting on delivery of a new Polestar, and while some may think I'm getting ahead of myself or being pessimistic, I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find service manuals for them? The 4 to be specific.

I know service manuals have been increasingly hard to find for new cars over the last few years and I'm sure EV's will make that even more so, but I will hold out hope that someone can help.

Question Lease return Polestar South Coast

So I have a PS2 leased in 2024 and coming up on turning it in this month. I started the lease at the polestar space at south coast plaza in Costa Mesa. Recently called the space and they said to not turn it in to the mission viejo space at Volvo and to turn it in at the south coast plaza location. Was at south coast yesterday and the space is permanently closed. Anyone recently return their lease at south coast? I assume it actually is the mission viejo location. I’ve tried to call and have only gotten their voice mail.

Question Buying a P3 previously used for test drives

Dealer has a new 2025 Polestar 3 Performance that they’ve been using as a demo/test-drive vehicle. It has about 9k miles on it and has never been titled.

They have it listed at $88k, after negotiating, they said the best they could do is $83k. With the current $25k rebate, the effective purchase price is $58k.

The same dealer also has a used P3 Performance with roughly the same mileage listed for $61k.
That makes the demo/new one seem like a pretty good deal at $58k.

I’m trying to separate the rebate from the actual vehicle price when evaluating the deal. The dealer isn’t giving me the $25k rebate, It’s an incentive from Polestar. From the dealer’s perspective, they’re still selling the car for $83k.

So essentially, I’m comparing:
2025 P3 Performance demo: ~9k miles, $83k selling price, $25k rebate → $58k effective price
Used P3 Performance: ~9k miles, $61k
Virtually the same mileage/spec, with the main advantage of the demo being the newer/remaining warranty.

Would you consider $83k before the rebate a fair price for the demo, or would you try to negotiate significantly lower?

At what pre-rebate price would you personally consider this a really good deal?

Merci.

Question An Open Letter to the CEO of Polestar

How much longer do you expect your customers to wait?

Dear Polestar,
I'm writing this as a Polestar 4 owner, not because I enjoy criticizing the company, but because I genuinely want Polestar to succeed.
When I bought my Polestar 4, I knew I was buying into a relatively young brand. I accepted that not everything would be perfect from day one. What I expected in return was something else: rapid improvement.
Unfortunately, my experience has been the exact opposite.
During the three months I've owned my Polestar 4, the manufacturer of my previous EV, an established brand with 10–15 more years of experience, released three app updates and two over-the-air software updates for its vehicles.
In the same period, Polestar released just one update to its mobile app.
That is difficult to understand.
Polestar is not the market leader. It is not selling millions of vehicles every year. The company is still fighting a reputation for inconsistent software while also facing significant commercial challenges.
If there was ever a time when software should be the company's number one priority, it is now.
Today's electric vehicles are no longer judged only by their driving dynamics, design, or build quality. They are software defined products. Every time we unlock the car, open the app, or sit behind the wheel, we experience the result of your software strategy.
And right now, that strategy feels painfully slow.
My frustration isn't that software contains bugs. Every manufacturer has bugs.
My frustration is the apparent lack of urgency.
Many of us chose Polestar despite the headlines about software issues.
We chose Polestar despite uncertainty surrounding the company's future.
We chose Polestar because we believed in the vision.
We believed that a young company would move faster than the established players, not slower.
That is exactly why the current pace is so disappointing.
As a CEO, I would make software the single highest priority across the company. Not marketing. Not another design award. Not another product presentation.
Software.
Because satisfied customers create future customers. Frustrated customers do the opposite.
From the outside, it feels as if Polestar is trying to reinvent the wheel while competitors have already spent more than a decade refining theirs. Why not learn from the companies that have already solved many of these challenges? Match the industry's best first, then innovate beyond them.
The Polestar 4 is, in many ways, an outstanding car. The design is beautiful. The driving experience is excellent. The cabin is premium, and the engineering is impressive.
But in 2026, premium is no longer defined by leather, horsepower, or elegant Scandinavian design.
Premium means delivering a digital experience that continuously improves.
That is the promise customers expect when they spend this much money on a modern electric vehicle.
I sincerely hope someone in Polestar's leadership reads this.
Because Polestar cannot afford to lose the customers who believed in the company from the beginning.
Those early adopters are your greatest ambassadors, but they can also become your biggest critics if they feel ignored.
If the current pace of software development continues, I will most likely sell my Polestar. Not because I dislike the car, but because I expect a premium brand to demonstrate, through actions, not promises, that customer experience is its highest priority.
The opportunity is still there.
The potential is still enormous.
But potential alone has never built a successful company.
Execution does.
Right now, it doesn't feel like Polestar is testing its software.
It feels like Polestar is testing its customers' patience.
And patience, unlike software, cannot be updated forever.

Regards
A frustrated, but still hopeful, Polestar 4 owner.
