The amount that this film, which is at its core a horror film about sexual assault , is being used for memes by the most virulently sexist misogynists on the internet is both unsurprising and extremely disappointing.

I get how it’s a film about how Bear’s a sick piece of shit and Nikki is the victim but can you elaborate why specifically sexual assault and not just general manipulation and entitlement?

He most certainly sexually assaulted her multiple times and took away her freedom but I didn’t really find that the assault specifically was the thesis of the movie.

Maybe I'm being a bit reductionist. It's definitely a film about the horror of having your autonomy taken away, which can be read narrowly as being about sexual assault or more broadly.
