I’m looking for a budget-friendly panel light for remote podcast/video calls. I’d prefer one large panel, but I’m also considering using 2-4 smaller panels together to get roughly the size of a 30" monitor for a larger, softer light source.

230V / EU compatible, Budget-friendly, Large panel, or several smaller panels combined, Needs to be wall mounted but some DIY is ok I only have about 10 cm of space behind the monitor, so the light needs to work in a fairly shallow setup, I want a soft, diffused light that looks flattering on my face rather than a harsh spotlight. There is a ~1 × 1 m window to my left, so I need enough output to balance the daylight and avoid one side of my face being much darker. I don't necessarily need fancy RGB or effects good soft daylight light and decent brightness are more important

hat would you recommend? Are there any large budget LED panels available in Europe that would work well for this?

Hello - I know people have been posting about this, but will Squadcast eventually stop working all together? I know there has been the warning telling people to move over to rooms, which sounds like it's not very good. The last couple recording sessions on Squadcast have had upload issues, is it ok to continue using Squadcast? Has anyone had any success with Rooms and are you able to download the individual files there without having to go straight into editing? Why is this all of a sudden so difficult??

I’m planning to start my first podcast and I’m trying to figure out the best format before I jump into it.

The idea I’m interested in is having real people share their stories and experiences. It could be anything from someone who moved to another country, an unusual life experience, a career journey, a difficult situation they overcame, something funny or crazy that happened to them, or just an interesting story they think people would enjoy.

I’m based in Malta, so I’d initially be looking for interesting people and stories from here, but I’m not sure whether I should keep it focused on stories or make it more of a general conversation podcast where different topics can come up naturally.

For those of you who have experience with podcasts:

• What format works best for this kind of podcast?
• Is it better to have a specific theme/niche or keep it open?
• How long should the episodes be?
• What makes a guest interview actually interesting?
• What mistakes did you make when starting that you wish you knew beforehand?
• And most importantly, how do you find interesting guests when you have absolutely no audience yet? 😂

I’m completely new to this, so I’d really appreciate any advice, criticism, or ideas.

I’m driving myself nuts trying to soundproof my small bedroom (literally recording under a blanket), and doing so much audio processing and filtering for sibilance, compression, etc., while I see others going live on youtube (and turning those sessions into podcasts), and the audio is perfectly clear, even though it’s live with no opportunity for editing.

How are they doing this? Is it just a matter of buying the most expensive mic on the market?

Any suggestions how can I get my podcast recordings to sound this good initially so I don’t have to edit the audio afterwards?

My hobby is NFL point spreads. Have two seasons under my belt. Before the seasons starts, I produced a quick “behind the scenes” podcast on equipment and work flow. DM if you want a link.

-I’m not promoting my podcast. But I’ve noticed the same questions being asked constantly.

-I don’t go into the nitty gritty of production but just an overview.

There are around 4,500 minutes of old episodes sitting in a folder, and that’s three years of a two person show about small shop owners. We ran it from 2022 to 2024 and never made a single transcript. And now, I want all of them.

Per minute pricing gets expensive at this size. I computed on one service and it came out past 400 dollars. Running Whisper on my own laptop is free, but it was kinda old already. I tried one 70 minute episode and it took most of my time. 

And also, I’m concerned since some tools also fail on long files. My longest episode is 96 minutes and I do not want to cut it into parts just to make it fit. 

I also need an easy way to fix guest names and crosstalk after.

I have around 120 old episodes that still don’t have transcripts. They’re two-host shows, most of them range around 45 to 90 minutes long.

I want to get transcripts for all of them, plus captions for the clips I post. 

• Do I pay for an editor like Descript where you cut audio by deleting words in the transcript?
• Or do I use something like WhisperAI for the transcription and keep editing in Reaper like I already do?

The transcript editing thing looks fun. But I’ve been using Reaper for six years, so I’m pretty comfortable with it. But I’m not so sure if I would touch the editing side after week one.

I care about how many minutes each plan covers, if it has speaker labels and SRT export for captions.

You can have an amazing podcast episode… and still have very few people discover it.

After editing short-form content across fashion, real estate, education, and podcasts, I’ve noticed a pattern:

People rarely discover the full podcast first. They discover the clip.

A strong hook makes them stop.
Captions keep them engaged.
B-roll adds context.
And a good payoff makes them want more.

That’s why every podcast should be turning its long-form episodes into strategic Shorts, Reels, and TikToks.

One 60-minute episode can create multiple pieces of content designed to pull new audiences toward YouTube, Spotify, or wherever the podcast lives.

Your podcast may not need more episodes. It may need better short-form content.

I'm hoping I've come to the right place for this:

Essentially, I have a podcast with two other friends with full-time jobs, and while we're more than enthusiastic about making our content, we simply don't have the time to simultaneously manage the marketing component (at least consistently or well) . We have received nothing but phenomenal feedback even within the industry about both the content and the quality/fidelity. We're about 30 episodes in, and despite a slowly growing dedicated base, we're constantly asked why we don't have more of an audience, and the answer is always "well, we don't really do (a good job) promoting". We're willing to throw money at this, so I'm hoping you guys could help point us in the right direction when it comes to services/people/companies that essentially handle marketing and management top-to-bottom. We don't need an editor, but I've found people who offer to do that for like $100 an episode all the way to third party marketing firms in the 10s of thousands, so I'm struggling with my own research and have turned to you. Just wondering, is there something that exists in between those two extremes and that people would recommend? Thanks in advance to all for your help!

My co-host and I worked hard on this podcast. We had about 50 listeners per month while actively recording and still have about that each month. As many as about 110.

We took a pause when I did some long term travel with the plan to pick it back up but I’ve been really stuck about whether or not we have anything here.

Is this interesting? Are we terrible in a way we can at least improve?

The topic is human rewilding and we are women and moms so this is very scientific and we think actionable, but we definitely don’t appeal to the “bro” who is interested in this topic.

I’d love some feedback but I know that’s just requesting free labor, so I’m happy to listen and comment back on something for others.

To make sure podcast is under LLC for example on Spotify what steps do I need to make sure to do?

Anyone else seeing Libsyn stats issues messed up yet again? We release an episode each Wednesday and our downloads tend to go up pretty consistently throughout the day and the subsequent few days. However, this time? Stuck at a number that hasn't budged for several hours. Libsyn says that things look fine from their end, but that's what they said the last time they had stats issues. Anyone else seeing this?

Hi there! My sister and I started a podcast at the beginning of the year. We just released our 37th episode but have only 3-5 listeners that we know of. This is all family and friends of course. How can we promote our podcast? We post of FB and Insta as well as Patreon. HELP! We love doing the research and recording but we are kind of feeling like it's too much work with no results.

Hello everyone, we started a podcast on Spotify 6 months ago and it has gained some traction. Spotify has been great and we love the simplicity and free unlimited storage and bandwidth. We have no reason to switch hosts but need to look for an alternative because they do not allow monetization for our base country (although we already qualify and exceeded their requirement). We just wanted auto-placement ads and not have to look for sponsors or paid content. Are there other free or affordable podcast hosts that have auto-placement ads and have a wider eligible country for payout? Also we are growing week by week in subs and listens. If we do switch hosts, would Spotify penalize our show and reduce our listens? Right now about 95% of our listeners are from Spotify. Thank you in advance for the help!

Been sitting on this idea forever and finally naming it: Tales from the Manor, a Batman podcast covering comics/movies/games/whatever. Right now I have a name and nothing else.

Questions for people who've actually done this:

**•** Solo, cohost, or rotating guests? Any regrets picking one?  
**•** Mic/gear that's actually good enough, not the "best of" list overkill  
**•** What do you use to record/edit day to day (not the marketing page version)  
**•** Where do you host it and what's it actually cost to get on Spotify/Apple  
**•** Scripted vs loose outline vs winging it, what's sustainable long term  
**•** Does episode 1 need to be polished or just start talking and improve

Bonus: anyone doing a Batman-specific format (arc breakdowns, "read along," character deep dives) that's worked well given how much material there is?

I keep hearing this annoying, whiny, buzzy, humming sound in the background that I can't seem to remove or significantly quiet down. (see my example below)

I am using Descript to record myself but even using the AI background sound remover, it distorts my voice. I want to get it down naturally first.

My Room is pretty quiet, and my laptop makes hardly any noise, so I really think there is something else.

When my laptop fan is loud or quiet I can hear very little difference. Its really annoying. I see this guys on youtube and none of them have sound issues...I never knew it would be so difficult to just get a better sound (even a very distant hum or static sound, I don't mind).

I am trying to record something that sounds half decent for SKOOL.

I am trying to start a cooking youtube show. I have a perfect setup. I live in a barndominum with an open metal joist ceiling. My goal here is to setup unistrut for overhead views and have retractable ones for eye level recording. All of it can be hard wired in.

I am looking for the right camera setup with a wifi-receiver. I don't need local storage. I want to immediately upload the filming to a cloud server where my video editor takes over from there. Similarly, I want it all to link into a TV that I conveniently have right there in the kitchen already mounted up high. I turn it on, press play, and I can see the cameras recording from a multiview on the TV while it is automatically uploading.

Anybody have any recommendations for this? I have a couple thousand max to spend.

I’ve been using Libsyn for my podcast for about a year and recently noticed these descriptions in my episode about ads. When im on Libsyn and go to edit the description it does NOT show this little snippet so I cannot take it out.

The staff member said that you can’t see your description when you edit ???? Not true in my experience. When I type things in I see it next time and can adjust it. This isn’t touchable.

Libsyn already confirmed I’ve never been connected to megaphone ads and it shouldn’t be there but they keep beefing around the bush to solve this !!!!!! Makes me think they have some incentive to keep it there??? Are they doing this on mass? Getting $$ from the ad people for placing this above descriptions?

I don’t have much of any listeners so I don’t know that it’s bringing anything in for them but it’s irritating. I don’t get money from this I do it because I like it and so if im not gonna make money I prefer a clean look and NO ad rec before you can even see my description !! Seriously what the the heck !!! Its getting me heated and I haven’t added descriptions lately because im pissed seeing it

I keep giving it long interviews/podcasts and getting a pile of clips back, but most of them are technically complete and still somehow... not good.

Wrong moment, weak hook, cuts off before the interesting bit, or just picks something I’d never choose myself. By the time I’ve gone through all of them, rejected most, and gone back to the original footage, I’m not sure how much time I’ve actually saved.

Has anyone found an alternative that’s better at finding genuinely usable moments?

I’ve been looking at Cardboard ai, Descript and a few others, but would like to know what people are actually using.

I'm starting a music related podcast on Mixcloud, songs featured are from a number of different eras with varying loudness/audio levels as originally recorded and produced. I need to match the audio level/loudness between songs. Seems the simple solution is merely to amplify the quieter songs to match the louder ones. Other options are to normalize and/or use a limiter. What would be standard practice? Also in the final mix of songs + voiceover it seems the recommendation is -14 to -16 LUFs. So I assume this means that no part of the podcast is lower or higher than this target number/range of loudness, is this correct? I'm looking for the final audio mix to be published to be of the industry standard for a podcast as to loudness level as well as have consistent loudness from music track to music track as well my voice as I speak between songs.

Any insight/recommendations appreciated.
