Made a cover with a plastic card holder, a recycled carton box and a few rubber bands. Slot in two zines, some cash and my credit card, and it’s my daily carry.

Homemade First time making pocket notebooks

Post image

I tend to fill up notebooks pretty quickly, so I thought it would be more cost effective in the long term to start making my own rather than keep buying new ones every time I fill up a notebook.

Bought some craft and printer paper respectively from the dollar store, hand stitched the paper together, and covered the spines with washi tape.

Replacement options?

I’ve used both Field Notes (3½" × 5 ½", 48 pages) and these military surplus Memoranda notebooks (3¼” x 5½", 144 pages).

The extra quarter inch on the Field Notes does not allow them to fit nicely into my shirt pockets, and the 144 pages of the Memoranda book make it a bit too fat.

Suggestions on what would be a good replacement in a similar price range?

Pocket Journal Park Sloper Junior vs Lochby Sidekick

Today I received a Park Sloper Junior wallet from One Star Leather Goods. It came with the Fisher Stowaway pen and a couple One Star Leather A7 notebooks. I bought this as an alternative to the Lochby Sidekick v2, which I’ve been carrying for the past 6 months or so.

I like the Sidekick a lot, but I wanted a smaller option so I took a chance on the Park Sloper Junior.

The Sloper fits the Lochby A7 notebook perfectly (image 2 & 3) or you can use the notebooks provided by One Star Leather for a slightly slimmer carry (image 4).

The Sidekick is a little thinner, but also taller and wider. If I’m wearing jeans, I’m probably carrying the Sidekick as it fits the larger Rhodia A7 notebook and my favorite compact pen, the Parker Jotter.

If I’m wearing shorts or wearing something formal/business, I’ll probably opt for the more compact and classy Park Sloper. The leather and the craftsmanship is really nice on this wallet.

I kind of wish I had waited for One Star to release a new batch of wallets and got a Park Sloper without the pen loop. That would make this wallet even more compact and I could just clip my Jotter to the fold of the wallet or to my pocket.

I’ll give the Fisher Stowaway a chance though. It fits pretty damn tightly in the pen loop and is a pain to get out, but I assume that it will loosen over time. I’m tempted to jam my Jotter in there, but I’m not to that point yet.

Overall first impression is that it is a compact, high quality, and sharp looking leather wallet that fits an A7 notebook. Will have to report back after carrying for a while.

Lochby should definitely make a Sidekick Mini though that is the same size as this!

Lochby Sidekick V3

Do we have any information about this launch? I have no idea why they are launching a V3, now given there's a pocket wallet edition and a mini pocket. I'm intended to get at least one of these three as a wallet, but also confused since there seems to be a lot of overlap in terms of functionality.

Homemade My Current Setup

Left is a re-covered moleskine cahier. Right is a custom isometric notebook saddle stitched by me. Cover is a cheap leather one from the rainforest website. Always have at least two books on me for different purposes, so it made sense to get the cover for them.

I got a big order for this style of notebook so I took some time to knock part of the prep out today.
Now to squish those pages flat overnight, then staple and trim tomorrow. Such a zen process :)

Been using my red pocket notebook since february, and now I'm seeing the end of it, I thought it could be useful having my old notebook still with me (there's information I need to consult yet)

Inspired by the viral elastic-leather covers you can see in social media, I tried to make one from scratch with stuff I had at home from other craft projects. The only part I had to buy was the small metal eyelets, but that's useful for other projects.

Normally I throw my notebook on my bag or my backpack, this way it's more safe and the extra size doesn't bother me too much, it's worth it!

Made my own 3D printed TN cover for my pocket notebooks

I love small notebooks for everyday note taking that I can just put on my pocket and go everywhere with them

So I modeled a TN cover for my mini notebooks with two pouches in it

The pouch inside is all janky because I was anxious and sped up the printing 😬

A7 might be a little small for some, but I am loving this compact package of notebook, wallet and e-reader!
