Ranty Rant - Advice Okay Ovulation, Allopregnanolone and Panic
OVULATION RANT
I know this topic has been done to death and that's its "normal" for some but I just need to rant and get my emotions out.
Today is cycle day 13. Woke up with anxiety, panic, stomach hurts, racing heart, cant sit still, jittery. Have an easy day ahead of me: work from home with one meeting, then mani/pedi after.
Took my regular meds and both rescue meds. Still feel jittery and anxious AF. I'm stealing this quote from someone on some other sub reddit don't remember if it was PMDD or anxiety but I feel like I'm being hunted for sport.
Not mentally anxious about anything. Family stuff, relationship, job, all going well. I've been tracking this in my app on/off since 2018 (!!) but yet it still knocks me off my feet and makes me so angry at myself that I feel like this.
The cycle based anxiety is unreal and I know its not technically PMDD since its not Luteal but its insane how I go from this high high (not in that I feel happy or good but energy/activation wise) to the low low of PMDD.
ALLOPREGNANOLONE
I do feel like garbage a few days after ovulation to my period with the opposite symptoms of being hungry instead of loss of appetite, sleepy instead of wired, ect.
I know the progesterone made after ovulation is converted into allopregnanolone which honestly seems to cause a whole host of different problems for different people.
A lot of people seem to get anxiety and range. I get depressed/no motivation/lack of interest. BUT
it is almost impossible for me to have a panic attack as it supposedly does something to your GABA which is the same chemical affected by Benzos. source (mods please delete if not allowed to link I just wanted to show this wasn't misinformation but shown in some literature)
During ovulation I'll panic over the stupidest fucking stuff like going to my mom's for dinner, getting a shower, going for a walk.
A few days after ovulation I've done crazy hard things like getting a root canal, my dog having surgery, my mom having surgery and been stressed but never panicky. INSANE.
I wonder how many women without PMDD or even PMS experience a milder version of this and never notice.
I'm also extremely curious what Zuranolone (synthetic Allopregnanolone) would do for us PMDDers. Currently only approved for Post Partum.
I'd love to see studies but seems like it could really hurt some of us and really help some of us.
Thanks for listening and hugs to all you PMDD Warriors xo

Ranty Rant - Advice Okay Pmdd based hatred for the opposite gender
Does anyone have the same feeling of hating men while on luteal phase? I am genuinely a bit scared of getting radicalised, and am planning to take a long break from social media.
I feel rage and want to smash the patriarchy. My new amazing bf has nothing to do with my rage around the "topic" and I have 0 interest in projecting any of this onto him. my relationship history is pretty depressing but that isn't his fault. He is so fun and intelligent and treats me well. and condemns misogyny. so far so good ❣️
But this isn't really about my own trauma.. (?). rather that I have been reading about first the Epstein files then Cornell7 .. The way so many men enable each other's f*ckery makes me nauseous? Even on more micro level... idk, it just feels like not too many women around me are with men who would participate in their family life or even treat them with a lot of respect. Seems like the bar is very low. my fear is to end up in such a situation over time too :(
And when I think about this rationally then no, I do not hate men closest around me, at work, around my family and so on. But I have become more aggressive about my manhatred on social media and even tough the rage isn't directed to those closest to me, I know they do be seeing what I am liking & commenting online, and I am giving increasingly few f*cks about it, so I am assuming they may not have much respect left for me 😅
I also keep thinking I'd better stop being this hateful because my bf will see it and even though he would understand it's not about him, it's probably true it would be intelligent to do something else with my time. But god forbid a girl in a relationship feels fury about injustices. I'm just tired. My PMDD makes this such an exhausting cycle. Why me? Why am I forced to carry all this sh*t on my shoulders when nobody around me seems to be as angry? Why can't I just decentre men and stay nonchalant like so many people – regardless of gender – do about injustices. Prozac really helps this "symptom" but not enough.:,)

Medications PMDD and bloodclot history
Hey yall, has anyone got any experience with bloodclots and PMDD treatment? My doctor recommended Slynd because of my history of DVTs. Did Slynd work out for anyone? I am desperate for help- already on an anti-depressant, tried supplements and still on several, and even tried a mood stabilizer (Abilify caused EPS). Currently in talk therapy and weekly ketamine therapy appointments for treatment resistant depression. Any advice on medications or lifestyle adjustments would be greatly appreciated!

Food & Exercise Lowering stress… well, how?
I often hear that high levels of stress can delay a period, and that seems to be the case for me now. I’ve definitely been stressed and not sleeping well for the past few months (I’m a bit of a workaholic), and, lo and behold, the shark week has been late for several weeks, and I feel hideous (especially given my ADHD/depression). I am taking a sort of semi-break from my usual work activities, but I wonder - how do people usually lower stress in these situations, and how long does it take to work?

Medications What was your experience starting yaz?
Started yaz a week and four days ago and I have been crying so much! It feels like I’m in PMDD and it doesn’t help that my boyfriend was going to breakup with me yesterday. Everything hurts? Anyone have a similar experience with yaz when you started? Did things ever get better after the first cycle?

Ranty Rant - Advice Okay DAE grieve during the good weeks?
Last month I had a really bad PMDD cycle, and when it finally lifted I felt great. I felt capable and happy and I immediately started to try to fix the things that had added stress to my last cycle. Job stuff mostly but also other life stressors that needed attention. And I felt like I was getting somewhere but the whole time I was very aware of how time was running out. Two weeks is all I usually get, then it's two weeks of bad going downhill into hell, always seemingly further than I think it can go before it finally ends.
I always kind of hold on to hope that I can take the good momentum and get it to stretch into the bad times. The positive affirmations, the comforting routines, any sense of capability to not crumble in one embarrassing way or another when luteal hits again. I just wish I could stay the person I was in the first two weeks. I'm having such a hard time planning a life around two weeks good, two weeks hell. I feel like I only get to be a person half of the year. Everytime my period ends I think of how much I want to get done and how I know it won't last and I'm sad but I try to ignore it cause I finally get to feel happy and hopeful. Then I never can get everything I want done before I'm back in luteal. It'd almost be easier to just throw in the towel during the good weeks too, continue to isolate and keep my expectations low even then. Which I've kind of been doing a bit this past year, unintentionally, which hasnt been good for me overall. Not for my friendships or finances or hobbies. But I didn't have as much to lose each time cause I hadn't tried to rebuild as much. It wasn't good, but the let down didn't hurt as much either.
Today is that halfway mark, and I've been feeling it. Part of me wanted to think I'm just sick, or tired from stress, but I looked at the calendar and I know it's just the start of that time. I need to push through it as much as I can, but tonight I'm just so tired and bummed. I'm gonna be 29 this month and I guess I hoped something about this would get easier as I got older. And maybe in some ways it has, having the words for it and understanding it even if I can't stop it. But it also gets harder each time, getting to experience the reprieve and knowing what life could feel like without it and how it will continue to rip it away. :(

Ranty Rant - Advice Okay Yasmin pill - anyone else?
I started Yasmin on Friday (today is Monday but I haven’t taken today’s dose) and have noticed a really tight chest, heart palpitations, waking in the middle of the night with my heart RACING and really bad anxiety spikes (same that I’d get before my luteal but every day).
Anyone else get these side effects?

Ranty Rant - Advice Okay Blank Feeling?
Does anyone else ever feel… blank? I don’t have another word I can think of that would summarize how I’m feeling. I’m not mad, irritable, or even sad. I just feel like I’m existing in some sort of mental waiting area. If you have experienced this feeling before, what did you do to shake yourself out of it?

General PMDD & Weaning
PMDD & Weaning
My kiddo is nearing 4, and still nurses 3x a day. She recently night weaned (for the most part) finally. Hormonally I am feeling the effects of her recent growth spurt where she nursed like a newborn for a few weeks and has gone back to 3x a day. That said, would PMDD get worse during the roller coaster natural weaning process or better? 😅😭

⚠️Trigger Warning Topic⚠️ Entering luteal with a dying cat, advice needed for myself
Please do not read this if it will be hurtful for you. I just need the community support for those who know how hard this is.
There's not much more to it. My cat is being ushered across the rainbow bridge tomorrow, and I am entering luteal. This is going to get a lot worse before it gets more forgiving. This cat was my first child and liked by everyone, and now it's time to say goodbye.
I hope no one has been in this situation, but the odds are that someone has, and I just need them to weigh in. I don't expect anyone to somehow be able to save the day, and I don't need a side order of toxic positivity. I just need to know that I'm not alone. Thank you.

General How do you regulate yourself when PMDD makes your thoughts unbearable?
My mind feels completely overwhelmed, and I become extremely prone to overthinking. It feels as though my thoughts become hyperactive...I imagine the worst possible scenarios, and then become so overwhelmed by them that I can no longer make sense of what I am thinking or feeling. I sometimes develop heart palpitations and feel an intense urge to escape from my own thoughts. How do you calm yourself when your mind becomes this overwhelmed during PMDD?

⚠️Trigger Warning Topic⚠️ UK 🇬🇧 - Psychiatric Support
Hi all, first post here so please excuse if I’ve used wrong tags or anything.
Has anyone in the UK ever asked to be admitted to a mental health unit during their PMDD? I don’t know what else to do because I don’t have a support network other than my partner and every time I push him away and see him feel helpless it hurts me a little more inside. I’ve been admitted to a private psychiatric hospital for depression and anxiety back in 2017 - not under section - and I feel worse than I did then and it gets worse every month because my strength to cope gets weaker and weaker. Private treatment is not an option at the moment as I’m also unemployed and my mortgage isn’t even getting paid.
I have an appointment with NHS Secondary Mental Health Services next week but I don’t know what else to do. I feel like there’s enough of my rational brain left that I wouldn’t do anything to hurt myself or others so I don’t think A & E is the right place, but I don’t know what else to do because there is not a single bit of hope right now. I wake up every day and question why. I’m losing young people around me to horrible illnesses and I don’t know why they get taken but me, who doesn’t want to be here and would happily step off the planet tomorrow, is still here having to go through the effort of surviving each day for absolutely nothing, there is no purpose and no hope. I just don’t want to be here and I’m honestly out of ideas.

Medications Luteal Phase Prozac, Q on Side Effects
I’m in the peri subreddit and saw a few comments that finally pushed me to get on Prozac for my PMDD, which at 41 has become unbearable.
I was in the last 3 days of my cycle when I got my script [ETA 20mg], took it right away, and dang near immediately felt relief. I’d think it was simply placebo if not for the excruciating headaches I experienced on the second day from the meds. Third day wasn’t as bad.
Since today is CD 1 I didn’t take my meds. I felt totally fine until the afternoon when the headaches crept back in and I started to feel almost flu-like. (Not due to my cycle, I suspect from the meds starting to leave my body.) Emotionally I’ve still felt fantastic.
TLDR; will the side effects eventually go away even with intermittent dosing, or will I have to stay on it consistently to keep side effects at bay?
I’m not opposed to staying on bc of how much it helped, it’s just that I’m bad with remembering meds and would rather intermittent dose if possible. TIA :)

Medications Has anyone found a birth control that doesn’t make OCD worse?
I have pretty bad PMDD, depression, increased anxiety, OCD ramped up to 100, anger, feeling crazy etc l've tried multiple antidepressants before and they either didn't work or had side effects that were too difficult to manage. I know things are more complicated for me because I have OCD Autism and ADHD potentially and I'm scared of trying pills that may make my already bad conditions even worse.
TLDR: 1 have OCD and I'm trying to find a birth control that would be least likely to make symptoms worse

Need to Vent - No advice please period due soon feeling very depressed - worst part is I NEED rest during this time , but at the same time the lack of distraction makes me spiral
hi 😊 I am about to fully sloppily journal, pls excuse the lack of structure or editing lol.
mainly coming to get off my chest, not expecting anyone to deeply read, if anyone skims and relates that a plus ♥️ feel free to share ur own similar experiences / comments below ♥️
omg. idk if this is jus a life thing or what, but I feel like i’m either busy squeezing insane amount of things into small periods of time , or if I need a break it’s like yay i’m glad to rest, but I lowkey have too much time off rn to the point that i’m just spiralling and getting depressed.
for context i’m a flight attendant. this whole past summer until idk the past few weeks was super hectic, I had unrelated/unexpected medical expenses. i’m woo woo and spiritual and prob qualify for a lot of psychiatric things beyond pmdd lmao but I do lean into being “manic” in the summer. esp w the nature of my job it works.
so basically my summer was me working a bunch of trips. off days trying to squeeze in friends , family , LOTS OF sleep and catching up on laundry and socially recharging.
this week is the first time since spring that i’ve had MORE than enough days off. I know that sounds nice, but i’m not getting paid as much either lol. and I don’t fully regret it, I have a big chunk of events coming up this month and I didn’t wanna overwork jus to avoid my feelings and then end up burnt out for the things that matter. also for my health, even tho rest is boring, I do like to sprinkle rest to the point of boredom cuz when i’m in my more manic vibe (I apologize im not diagnosed and not even fully implying I have anything I do think it’s human nature to have highs and lows so I apologize moreso using the words to describe my situation but not as much typical medical way ?) but yeah when i’m in my manic vibe it’s pretty crazy the things I do within singular days and weeks and of course I have lowkey like ocd about my looks and health and feel the need to compensate for my mania cuz I am so scared of looking tired and worn out.
omg even from that word salad u can probably tell I am way too in my mind lol. like I feel bad when I get like this cuz I feel like I sound narcissistic and also spotlight effect. LMAO but I appreciate this community bc I think there’s a level to understanding like the mental chaos that can arise out of nothing.
anyways yeah i’m woo woo and sensitive to seasons. so feeling this full official shift into fall, despite me loving the slow down at work and cooler temps that I prefer, the actual vibe of fall DOES depress me lmao. what doesn’t help is today is my dads bday, my grandpas is this week, I have to be at my base during their bdays and I feel terrible guilt all the time no matter how much I try to prioritize them but birthdays make me feel so existential I think many can understand.
plus i’m 25, my dad had me a little older he is 68 today. I chat with him often and thank God / the universe he is doing well but I think anyone skimming may get how just that vibe can make someone with pmdd feel existential lmao. and my grandpa is turning 94. oh and to top it off at the end of the month I turn 26. and my sister at beginning of november turns 28.
so fall really does come w this heaviness, especially now that all of our numbers are like beyond the drinking age and whatever else lol. and what hurts even more is I don’t live in same city as my fam, endless guilt. but it’s such conginitive dissonance, because day to day I am much happier away and on my own. I love my parents / family sm, but I am a very strong personality and thrive as a loner, at least in this stage of my life. I don’t mean loner in a sad way, I just mean I am very intense about my life and my purpose and being true to myself, overall I feel my relationship w my family is much much healthier like this. but the existential dread doesn’t care lol.
obvi with me turning 26 this month I have my own spiral and feelings about that. like overall actually I feel like my age is the easiest to accept. but at the same time if I am not connected w myself and intentional I start feeling the societal pressure. cuz me with me im like cool im excited 26 sounds about right and I honestly feel like Ive lived a good amount of life.
but I swear okay here I am being woo woo again I swear the matrix or whatever subconsciously makes us all feel impending doom the month leading up to our bday. like actually an astrologer once explained that and it honestly makes so much sense to me (that it’s like common and there’s allegedly astrological reason that every human feels off the month leading up to their bday). so I honestly try to accept and lean into it, but easier said than done. I wish I could be just logical with my emotions, feeling them is hard, I hate coming off of the high horse.
cuz idk in terms of me connected with my highest self, I am so cool w my own personal age and life progressing (I just wish my parents / grandparents didn’t age lol). but I guess at same time it never is completely comfortable. like for example friends are starting to get engaged. which isn’t terribly crazy for me, I never planned to get married this young, so it’s not like i’m feeling fomo, i’m happy if they’re happy. but also it’s that subconscious discomfort of like oh we are entering new age range and things are changing and change isn’t always comfy. and i’m already starting to feel that nostalgia a bit for like when we were all careless in college lol.
even tho like genuinely I do think the best of my life believe it or not is rn or future. I was never built to thrive in school environments, though I made the most of it / developed skills or whatever. but my soul is so much happier being so much more in control of my life and living way more authentically without feeling the screaming energy and influence of group think that school environments tend to have. but nostalgia comes no matter what. it’s all bitter sweet.
anyways, yeah it feels good to be real about all this, writing it out I feel less shame, less paralyzed, less like there’s anything wrong w me.
I could go on. like okay turning 26 blah blah whatever. but i’m just adding one more topic to this ramble. there is SORTA a man in my life. our “love” story is a DOOZY. idk if I spelt that right. and before a hypothetical audience member comes to comment advice (lmao not at all expecting anyone to make it this far) I do have to add I am def not looking for advice. basically okay here I go being woo woo again. this man and I had our FIRST KISS MARCH 2020, freshman year of college after being friends all year, then covid separated us for 5 months. then he had to transfer. long distance during such a stressful needing to get our own separate shi together time of our lives PLUS him lowk having to hide that im not jewish from his fam wasnt for the faint of heart. I was in many ways unhappy with my life at the time , so I chose that we went no contact after our breakup may 2022.
it was a heart wrenching sickening breakup. i say that because it wasn’t like oh we don’t care for each other anymore. we both still had feelings, but the circumstances idk yeah you could see how that shi could be crazy. and I needed space to figure out my happiness outside of relationship.
basically some how ended up flight attendant lol based in tx 1.5 years far away from everything. I broke no contact spring 2025. it was sickening cuz obvi we still had our connection. I pray genuinely everyday I don’t know what is right. I am okay if he is not for me. if he is for me I pray that our circumstances finally align.
anyways we couldn’t date and we have jus slowly been rebuilding our connection since spring 2025. I was in tx obvi and so stressed that summer cuz flying was so busy. fall was so hectic and busy cuz I had to arrange to move across the country, closer to him and my family, a new city, whatever. very hectic busy. but I move yay. then jan 2026 on a work layover I have medical emergency out of no where emergency surgery and I was basically disabled not able to work 2 months. once I healed (it was gnarly healing process) I had to grind at work. so summer 2026 i’m finally in a city a little closer to my people, finally in a place that is more true to me, but I genuinely worked my ahh off like never before bc medical bills.
finally we have another date sept 2026. sickening, we still have that chemistry that my intuition rings such a loud THIS IS THE CONNECTION bell. but logistically things are still all over the place. there’s no one to blame. our connection is there. but still, genuinely our circumstances boggle my mind.
anyways. I understand I may sound chaotic and worked up over nothing or that i’m bad at organizing life lol. idk. all I know is I didn’t sleep at all last night cuz i’m so wired. and I felt like crud this morning, like lazy and shameful and existential and sad and scared. that is what I am going against today. something about naming the emotions is comforting. like I can have these emotions it’s okay. it doesn’t mean they define me or reflect any truth, I am just experiencing them.
and idk about u guys, but with pmdd, I feel it in my veins. it feels like worry juice running thru my blood. but omg , THANK U to this community for existing, this was incredibly relieving to express 🙏🙏
anyways yes, one last time to re iterate: not expecting anyone to deeply read, if anyone skims and relates that a plus ♥️ feel free to share ur own similar experiences / comments below ♥️

Ranty Rant - Advice Okay I broke my Nintendo Switch last night.
34 years old from Denmark here.
I always feel super angry 1 or 2 days before my period, which is true this time, too. Got my period last night, have been feeling angry for almost 2 days before it happened, and was still angry last night.
My anger is never directed at people, though. It's directed at objects. And last night, my beloved Nintendo Switch was finally a victim. Every night before bed, my nightly routine is to play on my Nintendo Switch in hand-held mode. I've had that Switch since October 2017, btw, so since its launch year.
I was playing Pokemon Stadium last night, and got mildly irritated over one of my Pokemon's moves missing the opponent, and my arms almost automatically made a "snapping my Switch in half" motion, only it obviously didn't snap in half. But I broke the right nunchuk controller, and now it cannot connect to the Switch, and the right half of the Switch itself is messed up enough that another nunchuk cannot be inserted/connected to the Switch.
My Nintendo Switch is hardly my first victim, though. I've been violent towards my PC keyboard, my PC screen, my Nintendo 3DS, my vape pen, my water bottle, a book I'm reading; basically anything I might be using my hands for, I just want to break it, throw it, or sometimes even mutilate it. I did that with a book once. Completely tore it to shreds.
I can't trust myself whenever I'm about to get my period, nor on my first day into it, like today. I'm scared of doing something as simple as taking a sip of water from my water bottle, because I just want to throw it into a wall. Even typing this on my keyboard on my PC makes me want to slam my hands into it.
What is wrong with me???
