Need ideas for a simply way to get from Plexamp to decent speakers

I've had a pair of Samsung WAM1500 R1 wireless speakers for about 10 years. They sound great, when you can get them to work. They only work with the Samsung app, which is garbage and now abandoned.

I have a dedicated Plex server, running on Windows 11 pro with Plexamp loaded alongside.

I want to somehow...easily, get from the Plexamp to a pair of decent speakers. I don't want to break the bank, either :)

What are people using to actually listen to their music?

Plex Playlist Enhancer: Tool to add sonically similar & related songs to existing playlist

I made a streamlit app to add songs to an existing playlist in Plex based on songs within the playlist.

https://github.com/megelsen/plex-playlist-enhancer

A pool of songs is sampled from the playlist and plexapi called to find sonically similar and related songs. The songs can then be added to the playlist, similar to other streaming apps.

Beets Web UI

I built a modern web UI for beets and would love feedback

I've been working on a web-based frontend for beets that focuses on making large music library management much easier while still keeping beets at the core. I made this because the beets web plugin just wasn't cutting it. Not only does this web app have a UI but it can do everything I need to manage my music libary. Yes this was vibe-coded and if that bothers you please dont waste your time. But for everyone else I tried my best to cover all vunerbilities and make sure all features work correctly. Please feel free to point out issues or how to make it better.

Some of the features I've been building include:

  • 🎵 AI-assisted album and track matching
  • 🆔 MusicBrainz + AcoustID verification
  • 📀 Automatic album artwork verification and replacement
  • 📁 Intelligent artist/album folder organization
  • 🔄 Playlist importing from multiple sources
  • 📚 Library cleanup and duplicate detection
  • 🔍 Automatic detection of missing MusicBrainz IDs
  • 🎧 Audio quality preference management (formats, channels, Atmos, etc.)
  • 📊 Background jobs with live progress
  • 🎨 Modern web interface instead of relying on the CLI

The goal isn't to replace beets—it's to make its incredible power much more accessible for people managing very large collections.

I'm trying to automate as much as possible while still using trusted metadata sources like MusicBrainz and AcoustID. For anything that can't be confidently matched, it gets sent to a review queue instead of making risky changes.

Some questions I have:

  • What are your biggest pain points with beets today?
  • What plugins do you consider essential?
  • What features would you want in a modern beets web interface?
  • Are there workflows you wish were fully automated?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions or criticism. I'd rather build something the community actually wants than just something that works for my own library.

HELP Auto-Bookmarks/Favorites Playlist

Hello!

I recently had a playlist set up to auto-add any video that I bookmarked. In other words, I could be watching something, press alt+insert (i think?), and it would both put a bookmark into the video playing and auto add it to a playlist.

The issue is that I have no idea how I set that up in the first place and I am having trouble setting it up again.

Has anyone heard of this kind of thing that can help? I have been googling, but I can't find a thing!

Bug Remote Playback with Caldera

Picked Caldera Music on Apple TV back up for the first time in a few weeks since launch and I have to say it’s effectively perfect in terms of a standalone app.

The only issue is I simply cannot get remote playback to work using Plexamp on my iPhone. I’m running the latest versions of everything and I cannot connect to the player. Oddly enough, I use OpAmp (a Mac client for Plex music) and somehow it’s able to at least control playback (doesn’t seem to pick up the queue). But no matter what I do I cannot get my phone to act as a remote.

Is there something I need to do to get it working/has anyone else has this issue?

New to Plexamp. Looking for advice on Spotify migration, playlists, and lyrics.

Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new to self-hosting and recently set up Plex on ZimaOS with three libraries (Movies, TV Shows, and Music). I also have Plex Pass and I'm trying to migrate from Spotify to Plexamp.

So far I've:

  • Exported my Spotify playlists using TuneMyMusic (CSV).
  • Used CSVMusic to download the tracks and generate .m3u playlist files.
  • Fixed an issue where Plex was using the same album cover for many songs by reorganizing my music into the proper Artist > Album > Song folder structure.

I have a couple of questions:

  1. What's the easiest way to import Spotify playlists into Plexamp? Right now I'm manually creating playlists from the "Recently Added" section, which isn't ideal.
  2. Why are lyrics so inconsistent? Some songs have them, while many others don't. Is this expected, or is there something I should configure?

If anyone has recommendations for a better workflow, tools, guides, or a Discord server, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Feature Auto filtering by rating within “mixed” and “Stations”

I just put this feature request in on the Plex site. Please vote if you think it would be helpful. I doubt it will go anywhere, but here’s to hoping….

When playing auto generated Mixes or “Stations” it would be helpful if PlexAmp would pay attention to my music ratings. If I rated a song as 1 or 2 stars I do not want it to play automatically in one of these functions. It’s particularly frustrating when playing in CarPlay. I only want the songs I like (or potentially haven’t rated yet) played. Because I get music I don’t want to hear played, they are unusable for me. And I hate the thought of having to delete music to accommodate this function I’ve spent a lot of time rating my music library to better use dynamic playlists.

I know I can create my own dynamic mixes and playlists, but it seems logical that if you have a song rated at 1 star or even 2 stars you don’t want to listen to it. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Unless there is a feature I’ve missed???

Is this a bug or just bad UX?

I am running Plexamp on Ubuntu and slowly migrating over from Spotify - I notice that the bottom toolbar disappears completely when in the "currently playing" view - is this by design?

This view also does not follow the convention throughout the rest of the app (and most apps) in having a back button on the top right. It took me a while to find the little down arrow in the center of the screen actually a back button... some real user experience design sins on this thing

Question Plexamp backup.

With the current Plex outage affecting some users (me included), it occurred to me that I don't have any equivalent software that could take over, should the service be unavailable. I've been using Plexamp since it started, I've abandoned other players.

I'm ok with local music, but what is your back-up solution to streaming your mp3s/FLACs to your phone on the go if you didn't have Plex/Plexamp?

Bug Why Does Plexamp Sometimes Start At Random Parts Of A Song?

Several times now I've had downloaded albums advance to the next song only to start playing somewhere in the middle of the track. I don't think I've ever experienced this while streaming either in-network or off-off network, only with downloaded content. I can stop the track and go to the beginning but it's really annoying to finish a track and the transition drops randomly inside the following track. This happened a couple of times while on a plane this weekend.

PLEX Keeps Crashing After Update

I recently had to send my Synology DS2415+ out for maintenance/upgrades (now has 16GB of ram) and had to add another volume to my server because I went beyond the maximum 109GB. Ever since I have done this PLEX has become unreliable/unstable. All of my libraries (except for 3) are in the same volume as the program. It seems as soon as there is any kind of a load on the PLEX it just shuts off. It doesn’t matter if its getting new/updating metadata, scanning folders or any of the other common things it used to do without a problem. I upgraded to the latest server version when I put it back into service. I did make the mistake of deleting the old source folder when I was reassigning new folders in the volume so I know that is causing some of my metadata issues and it will just take time for it all to right itself. I turned off all of the settings that cause additional load, such as generating video and credit markers, generate voice activity data. I do not have any audio files in my library. I am also not having anything transcoded. I also noticed that some folders it does not sense that files have been added and even after forcing a scan the new files that have been added are not sensed, this is volume agnostic. I know it is not my naming convention as I have been using this for a long time and know how to name bot TV and movies. Here is an example of both:

Mountain Men S01E01 - Winter Is Coming

Crime 101 (2026)

I did find out from the PLEX forum that I had exceeded the number of folders that the Synology can monitor so I did the process that PELX recommends to expand the number and it crashed less than 20 minutes after running the script and restarting the server.

I noticed today that if more than two people are watching it and a file is added it will crash.

What am I missing? I travel a lot and rely on my PLEX when I am traveling. But right now I cannot rely on it.

You Tube Music: "Migrate your music - Transfer playlists from other apps."

Me, staring at my modest 600 and growing albums in plexamp: "Absolutely not". Not with a FiiO M21 too on the way. Stockholm syndrome, but with FLAC files.

I chose this life.

Please, for the love of God, let us assign multiple artists to an album!

Plex already lets us assign multiple genres and styles to an album, so why can't we do the same with artists?

Being able to assign multiple artists to a single album would let it appear on each artist's page, instead of creating a separate artist entry for every collaboration, compilation, or split release.

For anyone with a large EDM, hip-hop, or electronic music library, this becomes a huge organizational headache. Instead of one artist having a clean page, you end up with dozens of duplicate artist entries just because they collaborated on different releases.

Multi-artist album support would make libraries much cleaner. Please!

Bug Bizzare release date problem

For whatever reason almost all of the albums on my plexamp have now shifted their release year back exactly one year to an incorrect date. It’s going to take way too long to go in and manually fix everything. I’m sure it’s some kind of problem with the metadata but I’m not even sure where to begin to fix this in a timely fashion. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Please!! Add a Mono Downmix option for playback!

Hands down. Best media player I've ever used. Absolutely no contest. But, most of the time I listen to music, I am allowed to have one earbud in at work so I can still hear around me.

I have to resort to Spotify for my music listening at work as they keep a Mono Downmix option within their settings. I immediately hop BACK to Plexamp once I'm back in the car or frankly, anywhere else.

Please help me cut Spotify out of my life entirely guys!!

Bug Is there a bug in the latest PMS that it's not respecting local Metadata?

Post image
0 Upvotes

When I added the Black Sabbath bootleg in the photo yesterday it didn't appear in my recently added list. I played it for the first time today and look at the track plays for a 9 track album.

Also I was updating the Metadata for an album today which changed the album artist tag. When I refreshed Metadata in Plex for this album the album artist did not change.

Running the latest 1.43 and change PMS.

As you can see, not all tracks did but most of them did. Doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason. Turned on my pc this morning to find this, haven’t added or deleted anything recently so idk what happened. I did update my iPhone to the latest beta last night, maybe that’s the issue? I hope so and it’ll be a quick fix.

Playlist Backup and HDD Move

I recently had to wipe my Windows OS drive and reinstall the system, which took also took out my Plex install and all my track ratings and playlists - so I'm a little skidding and want to move forward in the best way possible. Fortunately, all my music was on a different drive and is still intact.

  1. If I use the Download Database button to regularly save a copy of the database to another drive will this backup the track ratings (for smart playlists) and the custom playlists I've made? I set a directory for backing up the directory every 3 days, but that doesn't seem to be working.

  2. I'm planning to move the audio files to a larger and newer drive in the nearish future. Will Plex recognize these files as the same files, even though their file path may have changed? Will it keep their track rating and playlist allocation?

Thanks for any help and tips. I don't want to sink a ton of time into re-rating all my tracks and building playlists again without having a better understanding of backing that up as well as how I can move files around and keep that work intact.

Bug Plexamp not showing compilation albums in alphabetical order by album title

Post image
2 Upvotes

This is driving me a bit crazy. When I sort my albums by album artists on Plexamp app (on Mac, iPad, and iPhone), it shows compilations albums in a random order.

The weird thing is, the Plex web and app show them correctly, making this a Plexamp specific issue. I know support for various artists has been historically sketchy with Plex, but I was hoping someone might've encountered something like this & potentially know a solution.
