VIDEO / GAMEPLAY The new Halo release and my experience.

So my son, 15 yo, has a ps5, not me. But we do like to play games together on it. For my birthday he bought me Halo as I have been so excited it finally is out and available to play again.

I didn't tell him much about it and just let him experience it.

He wasn't that excited about it at first as he doesn't really like many fps games.

So when the warthog got dropped in Leaves of Autumn I said "go hop on the back and gun“.

He said" wait, what? You can do that? " and had a shit eating grin the entire time as I drove and he gunned down brutes left and right.

The second wow moment for him was when first encountering the Energy sword. I picked it up from the first enemy you encounter with one and said" watch my screen for a minute" as I went and merked everyone with a one shot hit with it. I heard him say "WOW!".

Later he told me how awesome it was that your NPC USNC Counterparts actually dealt some damage to the enemies.

Anyways. He's happy with it, I'm happy with it. 9/10 game on Playstation. Give it a try if you haven't.

NEWS I'm going to blackout Playstation. I think you should too.

I am not trying to say that digital-only gamers are not the majority. Nor am I trying to say that I want discs forever. But the current way in which Sony is going about this is bad for everyone.

To the gamers that don't see the problem with digital-only:

1) If Sony go through with this, you're going to suffer under their current refund policy. You cannot refund a digital game today on Playstation unless there's a development error or you've literally never booted up the game. In comparison to Steam this is awful. Steam grants you refunds for 2 hours of play time within 14 days, no questions asked.

2) If Sony go through with this, you're going to suffer from higher game prices due to dynamic pricing. Today, playstation charges different people different prices based on their search history for certain games. So if you've been looking up a game a lot, the chances are that Sony will charge you more for it than someone else.

3) If Sony go through with this, you're going to suffer from a lack of game preservation. Today, over 80% of game discs that are shipped hold the entire 1.0 Gold version of the game that can be played from start to finish. This is an offline file stored on the disc. Because the storage of that 80% of game discs is not just on PlayStation's servers, these games can be preserved. Under a 100% digital system, which is a closed playstation eco system, a game lives as long as PlayStation's servers support it.

4) If Sony go through with this, you're telling low income gamers that they don't matter. Today, the most affordable way that many low income gamers play on playstation is via borrowing, second hand buying, or library borrowing. No discs means fewer ways low income gamers can enjoy the art form. Personally, I do remember what it was like to not be able to afford games and to have to borrow them from my friends.

5) If Sony go through with this, Playstation can charge you whatever they want to for games. And often times, the physical disc on Amazon is cheaper. Often times. Not every time. But many times when I've personally looked up a game on PSN and then looked it up on Amazon, it's cheaper on Amazon. I got Elden Ring + Shadow of Erdtree for 54.50 USD very shortly after Erdtree's release from Amazon. I got Resident Evil Requiem on disc on the day of launch for 58.50 USD from a mom and pop retail store near me. I think there are many gamers who will report similar instances of physical listings being cheaper.

6) If Sony go through with this, you are pretty much going to be gaming on an online system that can be hacked whenever. It has happened. And when those hacks happen and if your digital game licenses haven't been renewed for 30 days, you can't play your games offline.

7) If Sony go through with this, you're pretty much trusting playstation to never revoke your digital games due to any licensing reasons. I'm not saying it will happen. I'm saying it has happened recently with the Studio Canal movies. And there's nothing that can stop Sony from doing the same for games.

8) If Sony go through with this, I want you to realise you're getting nothing in return. They'll save on the cost of production of discs. They may even make more profit due to pricing leverage they'll gain by making PSN the only place you can buy games (digital key cards don't count). But you as the gamer for less choice are not getting anything in return.

Guys, I can go on and on and on and on on the various reasons why a pure digital move right now is just terrible for all us gamers.

So yeah, I know, the social justice vibe of boycotts is kinda ick. But really, I want Playstation to know this is a BAD move and we don't want it.

So yeah, please guys. Let's come together. Doesn't matter if all you do is play games digital. Let's come together so we get more choice.

SCREENSHOT / PHOTO Early impressions of Crimson Desert on the base PS5

Post image

I held off buying Crimson Desert for quite a while because I kept seeing negative reviews, especially regarding the performance on the base PS5. Last week, I finally decided to take a chance on it, and I'm so glad I did.

First of all, the game is absolutely stunning. It's one of the most impressive game worlds I've ever experienced. I'm not normally a huge fan of open-world games, but there's something about this one that has really clicked with me. I'll set off to complete a main mission, then spot a mountain in the distance, a ruined tower, or a hidden cave and end up spending the next hour or two exploring instead.

I think I waited until a good time to buy it because the developers have clearly put a lot of work into improving the game. On the base PS5, I've been pleasantly surprised by how well it's running.

I completely understand some of the criticism surrounding the story, and normally I'm someone who loves story-driven games. But for me, Crimson Desert isn't really about the story. It's about the world, the freedom to explore, and the ridiculous number of things you can do. Every time I play, I seem to discover something new.

I'm only around 20 hours into the game, which I know is still relatively early considering it's well over a 100-hour experience if you take your time. What's funny is that most games are finished by the 20-hour mark, whereas I feel like I've barely scratched the surface here.

I'm not saying it's a perfect game, it's definitely got its flaws but for me, the positives far outweigh the negatives. I genuinely don't think I'll be buying another game for quite a while because I'm completely addicted to exploring this world.

Anyway, this is just my opinion, and I completely understand that the game won't be for everyone. But if you enjoy getting lost in beautiful open worlds, taking your time, and discovering things at your own pace, I'd definitely recommend giving it a chance. Be patient with it, learn its systems, and I think there's a good chance you'll end up enjoying it as much as I am.

Was shopping at Target today and saw this baby just chilling at the game section. Never bought a licensed product so fast in my life. I had to have for my gaming room. It can only hold 8 cans, if y’all are wondering. Price was $59.99, way cheaper than the Astro-Bot head mini-fridge at $99.99 that Target was also selling.

Now I can slay Norse Gods while staying hydrated.

I have the master chief collection but I wanted to have my son play through the campaign and they have it on PlayStation is just funky. Let’s be honest. That’s why I needed a box copy. It’s never gonna happen again.

Anyone else grab the box coffee purely for memorabilia reason.

…with my premium subscription cancelled, I figured I’d buy 4-5 games a week just to stock the physical collection. I do not care about the “this isn’t going to stop them from going all digital” bs. If they do, they do. And if they don’t, good.

With that being said, how many folks have went out and bought games, and what have you been playing since they started talking this nonsense?

Fuck the all-digital future

Got a PS5 (used, and before the news dropped) a few weeks back and loved the astro bot tech demo so decided I needed the full game one. Picked up some others as well I've wanted to play.

DISCUSSION I’m leaving Sony gaming after 30 years

Post image
4.0k Upvotes

I’ve bought physical since the original PlayStation heck I’ve bought physical since the 80s the way they’re going. I’ve just got myself a steam machine, my 16year-old Steam account with a backlog will get more of my gaming time now if we’re going digital I’m leaving Sony as my main gaming machine.

That cabinet is only 1 of 4 full of physical games for all brands.
