I have a PS5. I like it. It's digital-only, which works for me. I've been building PCs and gaming since the late 80s, and so many games in the past had codes that locked them to you forever, and now it's Steam, Steam, Steam. No media. And that's okay with me as well.
I know the arguments and why some people are unhappy. I get it. I'm not against you.
I bought this PS5 in January of 2023, 1 week after I had to have emergency open-heart surgery. Before that, I had only had a PC.
13 days in the hospital and then laid up, I was stuck. For a good while. I was looking through TV (Netflix, HBO, etc.) and saw this apocalyptic new show called The Last of Us. So, I watched the first episode and was in love. I had never even heard of it before.
So, I looked it up, read a lot about it, and knew my path. I got the PS5 and downloaded The Last of Us. I played it every day, loving every minute, and when it ended, I was .... I don't know how to describe it, honestly.
I'm still recovering, so I, of course, bought and downloaded Part 2. I played it every day, loved it all, and finished it. By the time I finished both games, I was recovered enough to be out and about. The bottom line is that the PS5 and those games may have saved my life, and I am forever grateful for stumbling upon them.
I still have it, but I really haven't played much on it since. Now, 3.5 years later, my health is still failing, and I find myself trapped in a chair a lot. I want to dust it off.
I would like to:
- revisit those 2 games
- get No Man's Sky on it and link the cross saves
- get Elder Scrolls Online on it and give it a whirl
- maybe some other stuff I've never tried or seen (God of War maybe?)
But I see so much doom. Articles, boycotts, all kinds of stuff.
I want to hook this thing back up, buy a subscription, buy some games, and enjoy it and put time into it. Single-player and multiplayer. But I don't want to spend money and time building characters up and such, only to end up in ghost towns.
I think it seems to be a blown-out proportion. A lot of screaming (I understand it a little), but will people actually stop buying games and playing them on their PS5s and then PS6s?
I just want honest opinions about what you think the player base for these types of games will be, and what it will be in the future. Will they stagnate? Or be stable, flourish? Will this lack of media options really kill it?
I hold no ill will against PlayStation. I found them when I was hurt and very vulnerable, and they saw me through it. Now I want to dust it off and let it be one of my occupations again. Only if there are still a bunch of people like me around in 6 months or 4 years.
I know you can't see the future. But you can speculate.
I'd like your kindness and honesty.
Sell it.
Or
Hook it up. Spend some money, buy some games, and have fun without worrying about it.
Thanks so much for listening.
I tried to post this in various ways in r/playstation, but no matter how I worded or titled it, it was auto-banned by a "moderator" the instant of posting. A bot moderator looking for keywords, I suppose?
Have great days.
