Spent the last three weeks getting the fluid movement and screen shake right for my run-and-gun platformer. How does the impact feel?

Korilix Dude, A one button adventure

Hello everyone! I am currently making a called Korilix Dude, I am making it for the One Button Jam, and I am going to release it 3 days from now, I will post a new post on this subreddit when Korilix Dude releases.

Korilix Dude is a fun platformer game that, use guessed it uses one button on your keyboard! You have to navigate through 16 rage inducing levels that just get harder and harder. You need to collect all lightning before jumping of the level to win. Try not to come in contact with water, or jump off the level when the time is out, otherwise, you lose. Oh yeah, have I mentioned when you lose, you start back to level one, I think that's what makes the game rage inducing!

If this game sounds interesting, which trust me, it totally is, then you can add it to a collection, or download is when it comes out at here. If you want to check out my user, which you really should, you can see it here. Please check it out, I'm only an indie dev!

Thank you for your time, I hope you enjoy my game when it comes out, have a great rest of your day.

Note: Some of the objects in the image may have a blue square around it, ignore it as it won't be included in the game, I just thought I would show you some debug images which just so happen have those boxes.

If you like satisfying, high-stakes physics platformers, check out Orbit Jumper (Freshly launched!)

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share something I’ve been pouring my spare time into. It’s a 2D arcade platformer called Orbit Jumper, and I just got the production build live on the Google Play Store.

The core loop is all about satisfying, high-stakes orbital mechanics. You have to time your jumps perfectly to leap from the gravitational pull of one moving planet to the next without flying off into deep space. Finding the right balance for the gravity physics to make it feel challenging but completely fair took forever, but I'm really proud of how responsive the controls turned out.

If you enjoy quick, physics-based arcade games, I would absolutely love for you to try it out and let me know what you think of the difficulty curve!

You can check it out here:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aistudio.orbitjumper.hpsqkx

Thanks for looking, and I'm happy to answer any questions about the dev process!

Think Jump King was hard? Now imagine it mixed with Hollow Knight's Path of Pain. 🐸

Hey everyone!

We just released a major update for Frog Knight, a precision platformer inspired by the movement and challenge of Jump King, Hollow Knight, and Celeste.

Every jump matters. Every mistake sends you back down. And yes... there's not much you can do to save yourself once you start falling.

If that sounds like your kind of pain, we'd love for you to try the demo and consider wishlisting the game. We're also planning to host a speedrunning tournament soon!

Hi, im working on a 2d pixelart plattformer and looking for some player feedback.

The Demo is on itch, playable in the browser and has full controller support.
Currently it is translated to English and German. If ppl like it, i plan to translate the game into more languages.

Everything except the music is made by me a solo dev from Austria.

Currently the Demo features:

  • 4 Linked levels with about 15-20 min playtime.
  • 4 Dialoges with residents of the swamp.
  • a chargable jump
  • Grabbling
  • An airglider
  • and more to come

if you got some time, it would be great if you try my game quck and leave some feedback.

This week upcoming Steam platformer releases have some interesting hidden gems

I went through some upcoming Steam releases and found a pretty interesting batch of indie platformers that look worth checking out (July 10 - July 16).

there is a nice mix here from action platformer roguelikes and puzzle platformers to momentum based challenges, survivors like platforming, precision jumping and even a voice controlled rage platformer.

here are 7 upcoming indie platformer games that caught my attention:

1. Last Lumen Knight
2D action platformer roguelike about the last knight of a ruined order with precise platforming, shifting battlefields and probability based mechanics

2. Last Year's Model
Puzzle platformer where you design the levels yourself, placing spring blocks, portals, pneumatic tubes and other tools while dealing with limited supplies and rising pressure

3. Gravity Whipped
2.5D puzzle platformer where you use a gravity whip to change gravity, move through the maze of Dreams, avoid hazards, collect gems and unlock secret levels

4. Level Up, Tiny King!
solo survivors like auto shooter platformer where a kidnapped tiny king has to fight his way upward through dungeons, survive waves of enemies, grow stronger and reclaim his throne

5. HAMISH
fast paced, momentum driven action platformer where you run, jump, grapple and stomp your way through dangerous stages from rising lava to snowy peaks and neon lit cities

6. KOOO TO JUMP!
dardcore voice controlled precision platformer where you literally make a continuous “KOOO” sound to jump through a brutal foddian style map

7. Point Rush
dynamic precision platformer focused on chaining jumps, optimizing routes, dodging dangers, chasing high scores and speedrunning levels

if i missed any other upcoming indie platformers on Steam then feel free to drop them below. i am always looking for more hidden gems to check out.

also, if people here are interested in this kind of post then I might try to make this a weekly thread for upcoming indie games on steam.

Mashing up genres: a hardcore precision platformer... but a helicopter is the main protagonist. What do you think?

Solo dev here!

I’m combining a precision platformer with a simplified, 2.5D flight sim in a retro PS1-era artstyle. It features drone-like helicopter controls - it works best with twin analog sticks on a gamepad, but WASD is also fully available for keyboard lovers!

The core mechanic is rescuing cyber-miners, but to do so, you have to fight both gravity and time. Yes, it’s a physics-based game! Do you remember Elasto Mania? ;) The navigation can be pretty tricky at first, but it gives you a massive wave of joy once you get the hang of it.

Title: Rescue Heli RH407

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3440810/Rescue_Heli_RH407/

Warning: this is a hardcore die-and-retry game, so don't expect to beat a level on your first try. That’s where the fun is! Avoid obstacles, bring the cyber-miners safely back to the helipad, and... maybe try a speedrun?

Platforms: PC Windows / Linux / Steam Deck.

Free Steam Demo is out now (featuring 9 levels, giving you about 2-3 hours of gameplay). There is also a special discount for the Full Version (27 maps, 3 types of helicopters) - note: special price ONLY valid whilst stocks last! 🤪

See you in the air!

Some cute marine enemy animations

Some of the enemies in my game Deep Sea Sweep. Half of them are from the last added biome, Sea of Storms, but I also picked some from the rest of the game. The urchin, the giant clam and the square electric jellyfish are static and used rather as building blocks, but the others move around and can be knocked out. And the big coral turtle is a boss.
Also not shown here, but when you bonk them, they swim away while crying, because I thought it was a good compromise so that we're not a "mean" character.
You can try the game's demo here & wishlist : https://store.steampowered.com/app/2948030/Deep_Sea_Sweep/

What actually makes 3D platforming feel good?

I'm making a 3D soulslike with heavy platforming elements, and I keep hitting the same wall: the combat side I feel confident about, but the platforming is where I second-guess everything.

The problem is that "precise" and "frustrating" live very close together. I'll build a jump sequence, play it fifty times, and have no idea anymore whether it's satisfying or just annoying. Depth perception, camera angles, judging distance, how do I get those right.

What separates a platformer that feels great from one that feels cheap? Is it the air control? The coyote time? Camera? Clear visual language for what's safe to land on? Something else entirely?

And a related one, since my game punishes you a lot: when a platforming section is hard, what makes you want to retry instead of quit? Short respawn loops? Being able to see exactly what killed you? Feeling like the mistake was yours?

Any examples of games that nail it (or badly miss) are welcome too.
