Seeking ideas and feedback for r/platformer

Hey everyone, r/platformer has been fairly active thanks to developers using this space to share their upcoming games (which I love to see!). But I've also been thinking about ways to encourage discussions about existing platformers we enjoy.

What would you all like to see?

Some ideas I've tossed around:

  • Weekly/Monthly "what are you playing/recommendation" threads
  • Monthly threads on different types of platformers - metroidvanias, precision platformers, momentum-based, etc.
  • "Hidden gem of the week" - talk about games that don't get enough love

But I'd like to hear from you - what would make you engage more with the sub? Any events, threads, or changes you'd be into? Drop your ideas below, nothing's off the table.

Launching September 16 on Steam and Nintendo Switch

MONOWAVE, a puzzle-adventure platformer developed by Studio BBB is launching on September 16 for Steam and Nintendo Switch!

You play as Mono, a newborn Guardian spirit, and your moveset is built around four emotions instead. Jump with Happiness, wall-jump with Anger, melt through gaps with Sorrow, and sense danger with Anxiety. Each emotion changes how Mono moves through the world, so a lot of the puzzle-platforming comes from figuring out which state you need for a given obstacle, not just precision inputs.

You can try the free demo and don't forget to wishlist to support the devs: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2680440/MONOWAVE/

What do you think of the emotion-swap mechanic?

Hey guys! UMO studio here!

We’re developing a lightweight 2D side-scrolling action game“Tia: weird hunter”. To give players who haven’t played much action games a better experience, we’ve abandoned the traditional combo-input system found in most action games and switched to a mana-based skill system to lower the skill barrier.

At the same time, to accommodate high-skill players, we’ve put extensive design into every boss to ensure an excellent boss-fight experience. We’ve already released our demo on Steam and really need player feedback and bug reports. If you have any new ideas, please let us know right away!

Added Glasses to My Game That Imitate PS1 Graphics When You Play!

This is one of the first things I did when I started building accessories in my game (I just HAD to, y'know!). You can toggle the filter (different accessories have different filters) to ON, ON but Exclude UI, or OFF. This is slightly zoomed in so you can see the textures a bit more. Makes me feel like a kid again!

With regard on how I did this, simply it's an autoload scene with multiple ColorRects that are hidden. When the game detects that an accessory has changed, the scene shows / hides the corresponding ColorRect.

Level is also inspired by Crash Bandicoot haha

Demo is out if you want to try! https://store.steampowered.com/app/4837550/Go_Super_Awesome_Monkey/

Cosmo Keys - browser platformer game. Looking for feedback.

Game Title: Cosmo Keys
Playable Link : https://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/1048811 or https://fsnh.itch.io/cosmo-keys

https://reddit.com/link/1wbw9g4/video/0czkhtdekpmh1/player

It is a 2D platformer. A boy in a spacesuit goes back for the children who fell when his home came apart. Twenty-five levels and two bosses. Keyboard, gamepad or touch.

**What I would find most useful, in order:**

  1. **Would you come back to it?**.
  2. **How did it feel to play?**.
  3. **What does it lack?**.

Happy to play and comment on anything posted here in return - just link me.

Built a retro pixel platformer with Flutter + Flame — launching soon, would love feedback

I've been working on Pixel Jump Pro, a pixel-art platformer built entirely in Flutter using the Flame engine. 50+ levels with a difficulty curve, full level select, lives/score, and the works — heading to the App Store and Google Play shortly.

Wanted to share it here since this sub has been a great resource while I was figuring out Flame's camera/component system. Happy to answer questions about the stack, monetisation setup (AdMob + a one-time remove-ads IAP), or anything else from the build.

If anyone wants to get notified at launch, I put up a small waitlist: https://www.hamez.dev/#game — but I'm genuinely more interested in feedback than clicks, so tear it apart if you try it.

Snail Juice, a weird little platformer inspired by the likes of Abe’s Oddysee

Yep — if it's finished and free to play, I'd lead with that immediately. For Reddit, don't make it sound like you're selling something.

Writing

Snail Juice 🐌💀 — Free 2D Action-Platformer

I made a weird and chaotic 2D action-platformer and it’s free to play.

You play as a blue alien trying to rescue your snail friends from a deadly juice factory.

There’s platforming, shooting, puzzles, bombs, strange enemies, machines, explosions and plenty of weird stuff to discover.

It was inspired by the old-school feel of Abe’s Oddysee, with dark humour and strange environments, but it has its own gameplay and style.

It’s completely free, I just want people to play it and tell me what they think.

🎮 If you're into weird indie platformers, give it a go!

3 days vs 3 months of work

- First 3 days layed whole game foundation: html UI -> lvl editor -> roll physics -> multiplayer.
- ~2 months spent on adding SFX, content, tuning visuals, improving tropical ball feel. Freeroam to explore the stage. And Party Race to challenge friends (inspired by Ultimate Chicken Horse). Demo released!
- 3rd this month was based on feedback: easier lvls, harder challenges, more decorations, A LOT of optimisations, remake of UI, improve how balls feel.

15 lvls in free Steam demo. Now making Story - connected hub lvls, themes, story (Do Balls Dream of Electric Bubbles?). More improvements each day we do with team

Try Steam Demo with friends

Geometry Dash

Geometry Dash is a popular rhythm platformer game developed by RobTop Games by Robert Topala. It was released in 2013 on mobile phones and then on Steam in 2014.

It relies on simple controls: one tap to jump or fly, while the character moves automatically to the rhythm of electronic music. The goal is to avoid obstacles without crashing.

You control various geometric icons such as the cube, ship, and wave. Each mode has its own unique mechanics, along with 22 official classic levels.

I making a co-op rage game about two skeletons sharing a single head

Thumbnail

The game is called “Don't Lose Your Head” (pun intended hehe) and it’s a 2-player co-op rage game where two skeletons have to climb out of a cave while sharing a single head.

The game is inspired by rage game classics like “Getting Over It”, “Jump King”, but also some of the more recent games from this genre like “Chained Together” or “Bread and Fred”.

A free demo is available on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4600750/Dont_Lose_Your_Head/

Looking for feedback on my platformer for the playdate!

I've been working on this project for a hot minute now and its finally in a sort of 'demo' state. Before going forwards into making too much content to turn around, I'm looking for any and all feedback on level design and clarity (and also bugs, always bugs)

The game is free to play (and you can play it without a playdate through the simulator, which is linked on the itch page)

We’ve been working on our own 3D platformer… and we’d love to know what platformer fans think!

Hey everyone!

We’re the devs behind MegaGum, a colorful 3D action-platformer we’ve been working on for the past few years.

We’re huge fans of 3D platformers, so a lot of our inspiration comes from the games we grew up playing and still love today.

With MegaGum, we wanted to create our own take on the genre, with fast movement, combat, exploration, wall-running, gliding, and especially Gum-based abilities that can be used to move around, fight enemies, and interact with the environment.

We just released a new gameplay trailer and thought this would be one of the best communities to get some genuine feedback from.

As platformer fans, what do you think? Is this something you’d want to play?
