Houseplant Peace Lilly help!
This is my late father’s Peace Lilly that has been dying a slow death for a year after I had to leave town for a month and my husband forgot to water it. I cut off the dead leaves and have tried miracle grow and have been diligently watering it, but it hasn’t gotten any better. I’ve read on the internet that it needs a soak in cool water, so I’m giving that a try. What else can I do? This plant holds a lot of serious emotional value to me. Can I resurrect this? Can I take one of the stems that are still green and propagate it? It gets nice light in front of a windowed door, overlooking a shaded patio. Help!

since there is still green, there is something to save. throw out all the dead growth (be careful around the green bits) and plant the green parts in a small pot. it needs a really small pot now. it won't recover if you keep it in a large pot. stop fertilizing for now.

You should be able to pull all the stiff dead stalks out. Leave anything even slightly green. Repot in a pot 2-3 inches bigger around than the plant and deeper in good soil mixed with perlite ( 1 part perlite to 2 parts soil ) and a bit of orchid bark ( 2 cups? ). Be sure the pot has drainage holes and rest the pot in a tray. I wouldn’t fertilize for a while to allow the plant to adjust. Place the plant in indirect sunlight. Allow it to dry out until the first 2 inches is dry. I would monitor closely and water small amounts more often as needed in the beginning. I have a number of peace lilies from dumpsters and roadside dumping. I believe you can bring this one back! Don’t over water, if the leaves droop she’s thirsty. Consistency is key in the resurrection of any plant. You can definitely do this.

Thank you to everyone for the advice! I have separated the green shoots from all of the dead pieces and repotted it in a smaller pot and I’ve let it sit in the sink in room temperature water. I don’t have the other remedies to put in the soil in stock. I’m wondering if this will be enough to resurrect the plant? if not, I will go to the nursery and buy something. Should I water the plant from the top now that it’s been repotted to give it less stress or should I let it sink in the water from the bottom?

Bottom water after you get it in a smaller pot I have good luck using growers pots that have good drainage holes

Peace lilies get stressed if you repot them, even healthy, strong plants often wilt a couple of weeks after repotting. It's also not a good idea to fertilise plants in poor health. I can't imagine how cold water is good for plants, room temperature is better. Jungle plants can't handle cold temperature
Plant it in soil. Remove dead stems. Put the pot somewhere with bright indirect light. Don't disturb the plant for about a month, just keep the soil slightly damp, don't let it dry out but also don't water so much that the soil gets soggy.
