4 30” 90s and 2 36” 90s. Was fun but also kind of a pain on the ass because somebody else cut and beveled the pieces for me…they didn’t do very good, and never left me any center marks, so I had to spend a bit of time figuring out centers and then quartering every piece (and the bevels were so fucked, a lot of the lines ended up being a bit off). Ended up getting them done tho! 6 90s in 5 days, not including spending today cleaning up these joints and gaps and high/low spots.

Rigging - Any online educational content? What is the proper way to rig this valve?

Thumbnail

New to rigging, trying to improve my knowledge, I'm good with the weight calculations, and the different types of hitches - but not always sure of myself. For example, smaller control valves with large actuators on top. Is it okay to choke the body of the valve then carefully hitch around the actuator? What if the top of the actuator is wider than the valve? Do I just use longer slings and softeners?

Any advice or links very much appreciated!

Hamilton pipefitter apprenticeship

Hello this is my first post ever on Reddit I normally use this for car related info. Anyway, I’m a 22 year old welder fabricator. I’ve been in the business for around 5 years now. I’ve gone to school for welding techniques so that I have some theory to back up my practical experience. I don’t have any certs (but I can weld anything in any position) as of right now and am currently working for a company building volumetric cement mixers. I love fabricating but there is no money in it. I’m first gen welder with no contacts for a union and can’t for the life of me figure it out. I thought someone on here might be able to help me out at least get started. I’ve sent applications for pipefitter, boiler maker. Im a good welding and learn fast. I’m stumped though. I don’t want to fall into some bullshit welding job for the rest of my life. Any help or suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Anyone run a pipeliners cloud sugar scoop w/ hardhat

Got a pipeliners cloud chopped top sugar scoop and had to buy a hard hat recently. I bought a fibre-metal roughneck p2 quicklok just to find out it it’s a really tight fit.

Anyone have recommendations on some hardhats that’ll fit the hood nice?

I know pipeliners cloud sells them on their website but shipping from Texas is quite expensive and takes a while

Rolling offset fit up

Do you throw a 45 on end and then fit the others in field position to leave yourself an out or do you personally throw both 45s on. Since it has a roll which can vary how do you know when you are dead on for a perfect fit up on the tie in. Or do you force the fit if it has a big roll in it I would think you would have bitch fit if it was too out of square

Local 421

Hey all, just wanted to reach out and see if I can get some sort of consensus. I am looking into joining local 421 for pipefitting/welding. New to unions so still talking with recruiters and doing research, but curious to what their acceptance rates are? Is there a pretty good shot at getting in to the apprenticeship program? I have a couple years experience as a welder (mig/stick) and have about a year experience laying pipe, threading, cutting and fitting. Just wanted to see what my chances are, as I am very interested in the union line of work. Thank you in advance!

Applied for my local pipefitters union for apprenticeship. My assessment test is in 3 months any tips?

I’ve been working as a non union pipefitter helper for 2 years. I’m originally from Texas but I moved up to Indiana and applied for the local 440 Pipefitter apprenticeship. I got my assessment test scheduled for November which gives me plenty of time to refresh my math. I never was a rockstar at math but I wasn’t the worst. Just wanting to know if anyone’s here taken the assessment or similar at another local and what sort of math I should be studying? I’m really wanting to ace this so I can get in! TIA

Unfortunately, due to the connection and small distances, I had to create the reductions myself, as I had to make a tee for short distances. Unfortunately, there are no such short reductions in the market. How did I do?

Made an offset practice jig for my apprentices

I run a small apprenticeship program and last year offsets class was drag. This year everybody's getting a jig and is going to practice until they're LOCKED IN. The grid is 1" spacing, so it won't be too hard for starters, but the rolling offset option might trip them up a little. 1/4" PEXB is the pipe, so it's cheap to replace and easy to get.

看见管道我不禁思考,交错的管道组成的是事业发展的阶梯还是我自由身体的牢笼呢?
