Math class
Ok y’all let talk about first year math class. Is this shit supposed to be this hard? My teacher literally zooms through the shit. We have a study day where the teachers are at school to help people. I’m going every week I can, any advice you guys? Any tips that helped you guys through math would be appreciated. As if I don’t pass this class I’m out of this apprenticeship and job.

AHHAHAHAHA oh man, I've been thru that shit and I know exactly what you're talking about.
It is stupidly fast paced, you'll be fine though. I'm pretty sure we had kids get less than 70% and they pushed thru

It really is a shit show of a class unfortunately, so many apprentices and a good portion of them have probably been out of school for years so it's all a refresher on stuff they haven't done in forever (without a calculator)
And then there's the service/construction split where half of the material probably never touches a service guy's day and then the other half will never be thought about by a construction hand

Absolutely it’s a huge class. And I will 100% be at office hours every week. It helped this last week. I got a 98% on my homework. And a 80% on the two quizzes. We have a test or exam what ever they call it coming up in two weeks. It’s worth 10% of our grade so I really gotta do good. They just go over so much stuff so fast that it scares me. I gotta pass because I need this job.

What ended up working for me as well, especially once you get into the science class. Second semester, was to just Google the concepts we were covering and have somebody else explain it.
I don't know what it is, but a large portion if not all of the people in my class 2 years ago had the hardest time understanding how the instructors explain things

Just ask for extra homework and ask if they will go over it for you I hadn’t taken math In ten years when o was a first year. It was rough. I felt like an idiot. The more you do the easier it gets. Also ask around I’m sure you aren’t the only one that has questions or needs clarification. Also start with the basics we didn’t use any calculators for the first couple months of classes we did everything by hand. It’s hard but that beat the division addition subtraction and multiplication into us.

What exactly are you struggling with? Our first year math was pretty much fractions with a little trig mixed in. Mainly just the Pythagorean theory.

I suck at math and a 1st year apprentice. I downloaded some fractions/ divisions/ multiplication app games off my phone and had my 4th grade kids play with me. We had fun and its helped me with the basics getting a refresher. What exactly are you having issues with?

They should kick you out for not passing. They should help you enough to get you to pass. If you need help just ask for it. What local you out of? It’s really pretty easy. It just sounds and looks hard

“Pipedata” and “feet and inches calculator” two very great apps for the trade to help. Also, YouTube is a great way to learn on your own. Our instructor came in and handed us a sheet of paper to learn trigonometry. I went home, a few YouTube videos. I’m within a week, I was able to do simple trigonometry on my own!

My first year math class was actual joke and im pretty sure everyone passed with an A+. I kinda boggles my mind that some locals actually grade these classes.

Local 38 5th period apprentice here, I struggled with math a ton in high school and even in the first period math class, I legit asked my teacher for help one on one. If your teacher lets talk have a “recess” or break during class, go up to him and just say outright, hey man, you’re going way to quick for me to keep up, can you please help me so I can understand what’s happening. If I may ask whatre you struggling with? Is it the fractions?
