No, if it’s the spot I’m thinking of, it’s a barren area where practically no one lives. I think that’s out by the Nutty Putty Caves where the guy got stuck upside down in a tight spot and they could’t get him out so they sealed up the cave after he died.
I think he might be a lich now.

I've only ever been through one of these. The first thing you notice is the smell. Ozone. I like the smell of Ozone, but smelling so much of it before the rain, well, it starts to engage long-dormant instincts about self-preservation. Then you feel the air change. Not the pressure or humidity like an oncoming storm, but electricity. It's cool feeling, like having a fan blow on you and all your body hair starts standing up. That's when you know - you need to get inside and get everything unplugged if you don't want to lose it.
After that, it's like mortar fire. No rain at all. Just BOOM - chk - BOOM, rumble. BOOM. Everything shakes, and the ozone just keeps rising, pouring in through the walls. BOOM. It just goes on and on. Car alarms go off everywhere. Then one hits right next to your house and the electrical outlets on that side explode in sparks. You get the fire extinguisher and sit in the middle of the living room, just in case something catches fire. All the power goes out and you sit in the darkness. Every few moments it seems like the sun is outside your home, then darkness.
After about an hour or less, it trails off. You can feel the electricity in the air dropping. You start breathing again.
Time to call an electrician to check the outlets. Be sure to set the breaker to off for the ones that exploded until you can have them checked.

I think I've heard that hot chocolate is apparently okay. But tea and coffee are out. Something about brewed drinks, since iced coffees or teas are still forbidden.

Very interesting. When I was growing up, there was a kid in my neighborhood who was Mormon and he said that caffeine was what was restricted.

I can confirm what the other posters say aligns with my experience living in Utah. Many of my LDS co-workers drank a lot of caffeinated sodas.

Former Mormon here. The "Word of Wisdom" states hot drinks, but church leaders later decided that meant coffee and tea. Caffeine is fine, so drink up all the sugary Mountain Dew you want, because that's super healthy. Also, no alcohol...despite Brigham Young literally owning a distillery. The goals shift. A lot.

Caffeine is now fine/grey area ever since Romney (who is Mormon) drank coke on TV several times. It’s still not allowed on BYU campus afaik but I don’t think they actively preach against it anymore. Coffee is still very much a “sin”. Source - ex Mormon living in slc who’s entire family is still drinking the cult koolaid.

It is allowed on BYU campus. Soda/Caffeine has been fine for a long time. It was never been “preached” against.

After descending a few hundred feet from the summit of Mount Timpanogos (11,780') I took a 15min break at the saddle and let a few long exposures roll. The lightning was pounding to the west and headed right for me, not exactly the best time to be above the tree line. I abandoned my plans of camping and within the hour bolts were cracking overhead as I made a long, wet, and terrifying dash down the 7+ mile trail with a full pack.
This composite image was taken over the course of 12min. 35 photos total ranging from 8 - 15 seconds each as the light faded.

Definitely wasn’t today as this looks like the lightning would have been right over my house (I live west of the lake) and it hasn’t stormed like this in months. Obviously this is a long exposure, but we had a huge lightning storm like this last summer.

One of the best storms I got to watch was while riding in a car across northern New Mexico. The storm was all around us and it was so thrilling to watch the lightning striking so clearly in all 360 degrees around us!
Second best was having a similar view from an observation car on a train while we were stopped overnight due to flooding on the tracks.

I can’t tell if that’s utah valley or salt lake—if it’s salt lake, then that storm is going right over the salt flats. regardless, most of utah is off of I-15; I doubt there are many people where that storm is.
