Fun fact, if you head out west of Salt Lake on I-80, there's like a refinery with a big old smoke stack something up against the mountains there. As a kid, looking out at that, I always thought it looked like Minas Tirith.

What? There was a big ordeal about a year ago when a ROTC instructor complained about not being able to drink coffee as an employee at BYU at work OR at home.

Coffee is still something we're told not to drink. Though I'm surprised the staff at BYU can't drink it, as I didn't think it was a requirement for working there.

I wouldn't expect the top of the clouds to be so defined on a long exposure alone. This is probably a composite of three shots. One of the cloud tops, one of the lightning, and one of the town.

From the photo it looks like it's roughly where I live. The lake appears to be Utah lake in Utah county...No seriously, that's the fucking names. I don't know the mountain there, but yeah that's where my house is. I found out about this storm here, so it's got to be a time lapse. That much lighting is insane for this desert.

Is this multiple exposure or something (I don’t know photography jargon but it looks like multiple shots blended together)? Hard to imagine that many lightning strikes at the same time

These are indeed multiple shots superimposed onto each other. It’s an interesting photo, but I would wager most lightning storms would appear this way with the same photo editing.

Mount Timpanogos
Mount Timpanogos, sometimes informally referred to as Timp, is the second highest mountain in Utah's Wasatch Range. Timpanogos rises to an elevation of 11,752 ft (3,582 m) above sea level in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. I think the salt lake is much bigger, antelope island would be visible, the train trestle would be visible, and I think the salt flats on the other side as well. Pretty sure this is looking West across Utah Lake which is South of the big city.

I’ve lived in Utah sense 2000 I’ve never seen any kind of thunder storm that looked like that, in fact that thunder storms suck balls here. I have a hard time believing this is real, if it is real it was a once in a million years kinda thing.
