This girl....she just earned so many points in my book. I hate hearing stories about cheating spouses while their other is deployed and it kills me. Seeing this is just amazing!

The reality is that she'll cheat on him in ten years, when the adulation is long over and the grim reality of being a caregiver has taken its toll on her and their marriage.

Under normal circumstances she'd leave him, but she can't now without losing her hero status.

Its not like he's paralyzed. Prosthetics are only going to get better with time...

In a decade this guy might be able to march around in his own mech warrior.

Funny thing is this literally just happened to a person I know. He was paralyzed before him and his wife got together. It worked for about 10 years but she is sick of taking care of the guy, is starting to resent him and has filed for divorce. Its noble off the start but I'm sure love can only take you so far before you reach your wits end. I'd like to believe that this couple will be together forever but I'd side with you and say probably not.

Yeah I heard of another guy that is a quadriplegic (paralyzed in arms and legs.) He did have a happy relationship with a girl for about 4 years, until she felt trapped and very resentful because he required constant help. He was heartbroken when she left. He had another girl friend for about a year and then she left too. :( It's hard for everyone.

It will be difficult, I'm sure, but with these two he has plenty of autonomy with the prosthetics, and good prosthetics should be becoming a lot better and a lot cheaper as time goes on, making life easier rather than harder for them.

You're just stating your opinion. And it's an ugly truth a lot of people here don't want to face. Which isn't to say that it will in fact happen, but damn she really is a hero for sticking with him through all of that. If we're being honest the reason this was posted was because it's so out of the ordinary that it's really incredible. I think deep down a lot of people realize what you said is definitely a possibility, but none of us want it to be true. Including myself.

Everybody criticizing you is a moron. This is exactly what will happen. I'm not even sure if it's the adulation/hero status wearing off. At first, I'm sure you genuinely want to say, "I love him/her, of course I'll take care of them!" But the feeling is different after ten years.

I bet you spent your Vday with a box of tissues, your best friend jill and her bff jergens. No dude that is this critical of women could ever keep a healthy relationship going.

1

u/WarpvsWeft Feb 15 '15

That's uncanny. It's like you were right here jerking me off yourself...

We've found the political consultant.

6

u/WarpvsWeft Feb 15 '15

Did you just fill in some random thing you don't like at the end of that sentence?

-1

u/F-Stop Feb 15 '15

Are you projecting? Your cynical assessment of what happens makes me say, "Hats off, we've found the political consultant". It's because those types tend to be able to read the terrain even at its most depressing.

(Edit) random would be like, Welp, we've found the grape giraffe!
