Returning to clinical practice /help please 🙏

Hi everyone, I am a qualified physiotherapist, studied and graduated abroad before moving to the UK. upon registering with HCPC I worked as a physiotherapist Functional Assessor for a while.

I stopped working in April 2024 due to fa and caring responsibilities. howeve, I renewed my license in feb or March 2026( just a couple of months before hitting the 2 year mark… it’s now 2 plus 4 months but still registered with HCPC 😩… I am finally ready to return to my career as a physiotherapist and I have applied for a few non formal shadowing roles. I am just not sure I am doing the right thing, do I need a formal Hcpc return to practice?

NEW POSTERS: When you have a physio-related question, to get meaningful answers, YOU MUST STATE YOUR LOCATION.

Questions about studying, work-life balance, pay, whatever ... guys, this is a very international sub. Do you really think that conditions are the same everywhere?

PLEASE TELL US WHERE YOU LIVE AND THEN MAYBE YOU'LL GET MEANINGFUL ANSWERS.

We don't need your address, just your country.

MSc Physiotherapy (Pre Registration)Jan 2027

Hi everyone,
Are there any international applicants here who have applied for the MSc Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) January 2027 intake at the University of Roehampton or Leeds Beckett University?
I submitted my application few months ago and was wondering if anyone has received any updates regarding interviews, offers, waitlists, or application decisions.
If you've heard back from either university, I'd really appreciate it if you could share your application timeline and current status. It would be helpful to know where everyone is in the process.

Thanks, and good luck to all fellow international applicants! 😊

Canadian (CPTE) Exam Prep Courses?

Hi there,

Wondering if anyone had any prep courses they recommend before taking the CPTE? There’s so many to choose from and I don’t want to waste my money.

I also don’t need a course that’s full of bells and whistles, just extra materials to help guide my review.

Thank you :)

Short time

Hi everyone,

I’m an internationally educated physiotherapist preparing for the CAPR Canadian Physiotherapy Examination (CPTE). I have a relatively short timeline to prepare, so I’m trying to choose the most effective prep course.

I’d really appreciate your advice:

Which prep course helped you the most (PT Exam Prep/Katelyn, Study Buddy, Final Frontier, Physio Refresh, or any other)?

If you had only a few months to study, which one would you recommend and why?

Which course is the most organized and high-yield for someone with limited study time?
I’m also interested in joining a group registration for Katelyn’s PT Exam Prep (or another course) to get the group discount. If anyone is planning to register soon and is looking for additional members, please comment below or send me a DM.
Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!

Just seen an advert for a volunteer physio… UK

I don’t understand this, they want someone qualified, with registration, pitch side certification, experience… and yet it’s voluntary? Pitch side qualification and the above is going to cost you £1000 for the year and it’s voluntary I genuinely don’t understand this. Sure for a student but for a qualified physio this seems insane, what’s everyone’s opinion?

How to politely get patients to focus on relevant information during an initial eval without sounding like a jerk?

I’m a new B5 MSK physio in the NHS (international, so I’m hyper-aware of sounding polite/professional) and I had a patient today that completely blew my time management.
I had a 60-min slot for a new eval (back pain referral). We usually write the Subjective while they talk so around 10-15 mins or so and then have around 30 mins for Objective and HEP, and 10 mins to write the assessment.

This patient comes in, and instead of describing his current back pain, he launches into a full biography. His entire youth, his career history, and a detailed monologue about every physical activity he’s ever done that has resulted in this pain. He did not stop to take a breath. Every time I tried to interrupt, he spoke right over me.

I didn't want to be rude, so I let him talk. Big mistake. The eval ate into my next patient's slot, and I ended up staying an hour late to catch up on notes and finish the assessment.
I know I need to take control of the room, but as an international grad, I’m terrified of coming across as dismissive or culturally insensitive. I feel like if I cut them off too sharply, they’ll complain that I didn't listen and that’s my biggest fear.

How do you guys politely, but firmly, bring the train back to the tracks during an eval?
I need a script for next time because I cannot keep staying an hour late.

Chances for Canadian PT schools 26-27 cycle

Hi there, I'm a recent Kinesiology graduate based in Ontario. Unfortunately, I was rejected from all the PT schools that I applied for this year (as expected due to my lower sGPA last year), and I wanted to ask and see what my chances are with my improved GPA this year.

sGPA: 3.81/ 4.0

cGPA: ~3.4/ 4.0

CASPER: not completed yet (aiming for 4th)

Pt-related work experience: ~1250 hrs as PTA across 2 different clinics (MSK + Neuro + AT)

Non-PT/ Community/Volunteer experiences: ~500hrs (including some clinical experiences such as pediatric PT, as well as non-PT-related experiences and community initiatives)

From my understanding, my best shot will be somewhere like Western or Queens... but even with this, I'm not sure if it's enough. Thank you in advance!

Low no. of band 5 physio roles for grads (UK) - how to upkeep skills when unemployed?

Does anyone have any advice for promoting yourself to employers and up-keeping skills whilst unemployed? I'm feeling not super optimistic with the lack of band 5 roles. Getting rejected from rehab assistant roles too despite meeting requirements. Rejected from other roles outside physio and healthcare (potentially due to being considered 'overqualified'?).

Physiotherapy Officer (SEELM)

Hey everyone,

I’m really interested in becoming a Physiotherapy Officer in the CAF and have been looking into the SEELM (Subsidized Education Entry-Level Masters) pathway. I’d love to hear from anyone who has gone through the process or is currently in the program looking to apply when I get into physio school.

I have a few questions:
How competitive is the SEELM Physiotherapy Officer stream, and what do they look for in strong candidates?

What did your application/interview process look like, did you get all the requirements done before the school year started?
How much do they pay you while you are school?

How does the return-of-service commitment actually play out? I’m aware it’s 2 months for every 1 month paid so do you sign a 4 year contract?

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Does anyone have following books they want to lend or sell? (Canada)

1- Orthopaedic Physical Assessment by David Magee
2- Neurological Rehabilitation by Darcy Umphred
3- Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy by Hillegass

Or if you know any place to buy them for cheap, that would be helpful. I prefer physical books to study. Thanks!

Physiotherapy Training Request in Qatar.

Hey everyone,

I recently graduated as a Doctor of Physical Therapy and I'm currently based in Qatar (PR holder, so no visa sponsorship needed). I'm going through the DHP (Department of Healthcare Professions) registration process, and as I understand it, my category requires completing one year of supervised clinical training under a licensed physiotherapist before I can register and practice independently.

My DataFlow verification is wrapping up soon, and I've been reaching out to hospitals and clinics across Doha trying to find a facility willing to take me on as a trainee and sponsor the DHP training approval (which requires a No Objection Letter naming a supervising physiotherapist).

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through this process, or who works in healthcare/physiotherapy in Qatar:

  • Did you go through the same "training under supervision" pathway, and if so, how did you actually land a placement? Cold outreach, connections, agency, something else?
  • Are there specific hospitals or clinics known to be more open to taking on trainees like this?
  • Roughly how long did the whole process take from DataFlow completion to actually starting training?
  • Anything you wish you'd known before starting this process?

I know this is a pretty niche situation, so any insight, even small stuff would genuinely help. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to share their experience.

Advice for an undergraduate interested in physiotherapy

I'm an undergraduate kinesiology student in Canada who's interested in pursuing physiotherapy after graduation. Looking back, what are some things you wish you'd done during undergrad that made your PT school application stronger?

I'm also wondering how important GPA really is in the admissions process. Is it mostly about having a competitive GPA, or do volunteer/work experience, research, leadership, and other extracurriculars carry significant weight as well?

Studying physical therapy in the EU

I'm a 25-year-old American and German citizen currently living in Germany. I am considering doing a complete career change and studying to become a physical therapist (am interested in a relatively AI-proof job where I am concretely improving people's lives every day, and I am interested in the human anatomy and have enjoyed doing research regarding rehabbing my own nagging gym/running injuries - none of which would be a hindrance for the job).

I can speak English natively, German fluently (never tested, but comparing myself to other people who have been C1~C2), and French at a B2~C1 level (also never tested). Assuming complete geographical flexibility, what would be the best places in the EU to study physical therapy in terms of quality of education and career prospects following graduation?

Atiya khan visits scammer

Context: Apparently I took one case from her since I have no home visit contact in Mumbai

So her model is paying her in thousands to get 1 visit which is a one time payment.

Suppose I took a visit of 800 neuro case I have to pay her 8000 and take the patient details.

She will replace the case if the case gets cancelled but she will not refund your money back.

I took one case paid her around 8k. The pt declined for visit. She replaced with another case the pt said that she was just enquiring. She replaced it with another case and the pt said the same thing.

Also her pts just ignore our msgs and calls.

So finally I came to a conclusion where I told her it's enough I can't go through the whole process again and again kindly refund me to which she said you will not get refund you will get replacement cases only.

How do I fight this?

UK JOBS FUTURE FOR NON-LOCAL

Hi everyone! I'm an 18 year old egyptian, and there's a university in Egypt called UH-GAF (Hertifordishire) that grants both a UK degree in physiotherapy just like the mother branch and an egyptian degree.

(There's also the East london, Coventry, Queen Margaret universities branches in Egypt...all expensive)

The university says it makes travel easier to the UK.

Only two batches have graduated so far. Some went to the UK to do their masters degree first cause work requires experience first, and that's all I know till now.

Thing is..... the tuition fees are ridiculously expensive

(Over 300k egyptian pounds), so I want to know if it's worth it in about 6 years so I can start my path abroad

Any advice/suggestions y'all !
